It went wonderful!  You hear horror stories about these types of projects, and this couldn't have been smoother. Bob, Dave and Jim are great to work with and have in your house.  The project was completed in the 2 month time frame we were given, even with us adding multiple things to the project (more painting, new doors, etc.).  They did all the heavy lifting, and moved things around as needed.  Bob emailed us every weekend with a "where we are now, what is scheduled for next week, and what we needed to pack/move".    Things changed as items were available early, or needed to be rescheduled, and it was always a smooth transition. We have a couple of outstanding items that will be done in a couple weeks once they arrive, but that was due to us adding them to the project towards the end. They stayed within their original estimate.  The price of the overall project did increase, but that was due to our adding items, or selecting things that were above the estimate allowance.  In cases where we were below the allowance, the estimate decreased. Any issues/questions that came up were discussed and we were given multiple options/recommendations to choose from.  They scheduled the plumber, electrician, cabinet delivery, etc., and things would just magically show up when needed.  Anything that was incorrect (i.e. wrong faucet was ordered by the vendor), was rectified quickly.  Any questions we had were answered quickly, any changes we wanted were met with enthusiasm and with options as to how we wanted them accomplished. We have asked them to do an estimate for a couple of other projects, and plan to use them again when the time comes.

Both my husband and I found Ben to be professional, easy to talk to, and ready and willing to answer questions. We didn't end up using Ben (largely because we decided to use a small cabinetry shop for the kitchen, instead of a solo cabinetmaker), but we would definitely consider Ben for future work.

Every contact, review, purchase, delivery and follow up was done in an exceptional manner. There was never a doubt from purchase one and on through the past fifteen years that things were handled in a courteous, friendly, high customer service attention to detail.

Ben has been wonderful. He is professional, prompt, efficient with his time, and does great quality work. He managed to install an exterior french door in the middle of winter and only have a hole on our wall for less than 2 hours... well done! He does great quality work, and if things aren't just right he has no problem coming back and tweaking things... For example, when he helped install new base cabinets in our kitchen it was very difficult to get them level due to the older way-out-of-level nature of our floors. When the counter-top guys came and asked for some minor tweaks, Ben came back right away... no fuss. I would (and will!) hire him again. Thanks Ben!

Deciding to bite the bullet and remodel the entire first floor of my home, I knew I needed to use a professional who understood it was the home I grew up in and that it would be an emotional renovation. Steve had redone a bathroom for me previously, so after an initial consultation on this huge project, I knew he was the one for the job. I've never been happier with the quality of work, communication, and friendliness that Steve provided from start to finish. The work encompassed a lot...brand new kitchen, 1st floor bathroom, foyer, dining room, living room, fireplace, front porch, and stairs. Yes, a lot of work, especially considering the layout was changed by removing a wall and pretty much everything was gutted down to the studs. It's tough to describe all the work he did without seeing it, but he installed brand new cabinets, bathroom vanity/sink, appliances, tile and bamboo floors, new doors including front entry door, new stone on the porch surrounding the door, new columns on the porch, and even custom-made moldings throughout. The best part of hiring Steve to do the work was that he's not only a skilled builder, but he has a fantastic design sense. He made suggestions along the way about different directions we could go for some of the details, and every single person who has walked into my house since the work has literally said "wow". Any contractor can build what you want them to build, but the small details and refusal to stop short of perfection make Steve an extremely rare find. If you don't hire Steve for your project, you're short-changing yourself in a BIG way!

Wooden Hammer provided exceptional service in all aspects of our home improvements by providing an exemplary combination of artisan craftsman skills with 21st century professionalism.    Ben provided us with excellent advice in planning our improvements by suggesting additional options we hadn't previously considered, including a beautiful fine wood cabinet built into a living room wall that other contractors said was not possible.   He provided numerous other custom solutions, adjustments and fixes in response to the unanticipated realities that come with any major home improvement effort. We were on a tight budget to update our new house, so were very pleased that Ben complements his ample craftsman skills with professional project management.  He diligently managed the project schedule, and was always available via email, phone, SMS, making it much easier to successfully juggle work commitments, daycare, etc. and not feel like we were living in a construction zone.   He suggested several cost saving options and was genuinely interested in helping us get the most out of our money.  On several occasions, Ben sent real time photo updates on unexpected work (due to rot in the house) that allowed me to review and approve repairs without taking time off from work to go back to the site.   When the schedule began to slip due to delays from suppliers, Ben brought in a crew that allowed him to focus his time on the skilled finish work and still keep the project on schedule and on budget.    Wooden Hammer provided detailed invoices regularly so we could easily track progress against payments. Any major home improvement project will have numerous curve balls.  Ben routinely hits them out of the park, and does it in a way that lets you enjoy being part of the game.       408

We wanted a wall of cabinets and bookshelves added to the bedroom used as a home office. He came promptly when contacted to take measurements and to discuss what we wanted. Within a few days we had drawings and an estimate and a time table for completing the work. Once we gave him the green light to proceed, he built the cabinets at his shop and a few weeks later made an appointment to install the cabinets and shelves. Nicely constructed and finished. Exactly what we wanted. No problems

It went great.  Taro worked with us initially to layout what we wanted to do and then worked with both us and the contractor to seamlessly get things when we needed them for installation. She was very helpful in assisting us figure to out what we wanted, even when we weren't sure.  She was very responsive to all our questions. Any email I sent, had a response the next day.  She re-did designs and sent them to us so we had them for our initial contractors meeting.  Whatever we needed, we got. The contractor really did most of the work with them after the kitchen was planned, we did go back and choose hardware, etc., periodically. They were great about giving us samples to carry around with us (for over a month) so we could choose fixtures, floors, etc. Everything arrived on time and was waiting for the contractor when they were ready.  Delivered right when they wanted it.  There was one cabinet that was shipped incorrectly and Taro had it fixed before she even returned the call to the contractor.  And, it came in plenty of time for the counter top installation. The contractor drilled some holes incorrectly in  a door and ordered a new one, she had it there quickly. We were missing a couple of handles for the drawers, and again, we had new ones quickly and no charge. I would recommend them and use them again in a heart beat!

We had new kit hen cabinets made and installed. Ben Raphael executed all the work himself. He is a meticulous workman, does beautiful work and  left the site clean and picked up every day. We highly recommend him.
