  Because of the exceptionally wet Spring in Vermont this year, we were not able to schedule the work until we had a week that looked like it was going to allow roofing work. Once Adam started, he worked everyday until the job was done. Because he lost use of his truck after he completed the job, removing the debris took another month (that's how long the auto dealership had his truck).
  This is not the first time I have used Adam and it will not be the last. He is as honest as the day is long, his prices are fair, and he even tries to save his customers money by coming up with less expensive alternatives. On top of all that, he is a perfectionist and his work is outstanding.

  They jacked up the barn, tore out all the old stone walls and buckled concrete flooring. Poured a new concrete footing and wall with a drainage system to divert an underground spring. Installed new post and beam system. Rebuilt stone retaining wall with reclaimed original wall. Poured new stone floor in barn and car port. Repaired and repointed existing stone walls. Regraded entire site. Spread top soil and planted grass. The crew worked their butts off in some pretty nasty heat and muck and never complained. Very respectful of the property and eager to help.

  Baylor and Breen never abided by the terms of their standard AIA Contract. Appropriate documentation was not submitted with payment requests. Line item trades that were supposed to be subcontracted out were never bid out and in house employees were used at excessive rates. An honest, experienced Job Superintendent was replaced with a 'Trainee', and he was often times doing trade work and billing the time out at the Superintendent rate. Some employees were doing as many as eight and nine different trade jobs, and none of them being executed well. The number of hours billed was totally excessive including painters and cleaning personnel. The cleaning staff scratched every newly installed window by grinding in the dirt. The job was being billed for tools and materials that any trades person should normally have in the course of performing their job. What was supposed to be a three month job was never finished even after nine months. The list just goes on and on. When questioned about the terms of the Contract, the Contractor became belligerent, verbally threatening, and responded that he didn't care what the Contract he had signed required. When he refused to submit the appropriate documentation, payment for services was denied. We were then advised to comply with the Arbitration and Negotiation clauses of the Contract despite the Contractor's failure to abide by the same Agreement. Under Arbitration, Naylor and Breen submitted documentation that further supported the refusal to pay, and they subsequently walked away from any and all claims for payment. The job was left unfinished and with poor workmanship of those tasks that were performed. I would be happy to talk to anyone considering Naylor and Breen Builders, and share all the documentation regarding their poor business practices. In the end, we hired another construction company, and he finished and fixed the renovation in budget and in a timely manner. His handshake is his bond.
