    Rana, Dr. Tayyib S.
A previous doctor had recognized it but told me there was nothing I could do for it. I saw Dr. Rana and he knew that surgery could be performed and had a contact at Johns Hopkins that could help. The surgery was performed at Johns Hopkins in 2012 and I can see incredibly well now. Without Dr. Rana mentioning the surgery and helping me get it done, I would be using low vision devices to allow me to read.

    Rana, Dr. Tayyib S.
He recommended that I have it.  He exam was fine but he wanted to rush me into having the surgery before the holidays.  I went back a second time to meet with his staff and they were uncaring, disorganized, gave conflicting statements, didn't have the necessary eye drops, etc.  I decided to put off the procedure and I still have not had it.

    Rana, Dr. Tayyib S.
Dr. Rana is very thorough. He answers questions clearly and shares with the patient the graphic information gathered from tests done both in his office and with other specialists. Dr. Rana is extremely patient-oriented, taking time to ensure his patients understand diagnoses and treatments. He is also unusually respectful of his patilents--a characteristic I personally value very highly in a doctor.

    Eisele, Dr. Nancy B.
I started going to Dr. Eisele for a blind spot on my right eye on May 10, 2010. She dida thorough exam and could not pin point any definite problem. She has kept assessing the problem for the past couple years. She is very thorough with her examinations and is a pleasant person to deal with.

    Costco - Winchester
The New York Times says that Costco - Winchester has the best hearing aids. My husband says they are very nice and very responsive. He bought some hearing aids at Costco several years ago and they were horrible. This article in the NYT said that Costco takes anything back any time. So he went back, and they took the hearing aids back and replaced them with a different type. For about 6 months they've been mucking them around trying to get them adjusted. Hearing aids are terrible no matter what. They never work really well. He is not unhappy with them - he is as happy as you can get with them. The replacements cost less than the original ones did. The people at Costco are very nice. We are getting our eyeglasses there now too, and they adjust them whenever you need them adjusting. Last week I brought mine in to be adjusted, and they told me my nose pads were getting dried out and they replaced them without me asking. They couldn't be nicer.

    Eisele, Dr. Nancy B.
Dr. Eisele seems to have no compunction or concern that her patients are regularly kept waiting an hour or more.
After being her patient for nearly three years, I have left her practice for another very professional, thorough, and patient-oriented ophthalmologist.

    Barmak, Dr. Leonard G.
Setting up the appointment was quick and easy, though Dr. Barmak was booked for three months when I phoned for an appointment for a routine checkup.  The staff were always courteous and friendly.  As indicated above, Br. Barmak makes little if any time for "smalltalk;"  he is all business but is an excellent opthalmologist.  After I (fairly quickly) understood his personality, we got along perfectly.
One point: in his practice as an individual, Dr. Barmak insisted on payment up-front, at the end of each visit, leaving it to us to file the necessary forms with our medical insurer, which we did with no problem.  I've not used Dr. Barmak since he moved to a larger practice, with other doctors, so I don't know how he handles his billing at this time.

    Robson, Dr. Cheryl K.
This was a terrible experience. My previous positive visit with Dr. Robson, and that of my daughter, were completely overshadowed by this poor experience with Dr. Reynolds, her associate. The office manager, Johnna, yelled at me through the phone and refuses to let me speak with Dr. Robson regarding this matter. My daughter was given a written prescription for new lenses and on two separate occasions I have attempted to order them online from Walgreens Contact program. However, both times they have denied allowing me to fill the prescription they wrote, and Dr. Reynolds signed. The primary reasoning behind this has not yet been explained to me through this office or a licensed professional thereof. The contacts my daughter is still wearing are cloudy, and her vision is now being compromised because of these delays. I have NEVER dealt with a more unpleasant individual than this office manager. I have also never had an office refuse to have my call returned by a licensed professional within the practice. A complaint has been filed with the state licensing agencies for doctors within Virginia. I attempted to forward a copy to the practice as well, however they refused to give me an email address for either Dr. Robson or the office manager, Johnna. DO NOT go to or take a loved one to this office if you expect expert services and patient follow-up. You will not receive it! How very unfortunate! A waste of my money! This episode is also being reported to my insurance provider as well, due to the lack of follow-through with this provider.

    Stefano, Dr. John A.
I've found Dr. Stefano easy to see and very easy to talk to, and his treatment has been effective - the blind spot in my eye has not grown. His office is attractively furnished, his staff is exceptionally pleasant, and I've had no problems making or moving appointments. I do sometimes find I have to wait for 15 or 20 minutes after my appointment time to see the doctor, but that's the only thing negative I have to say about my experiences with him, and since his office is attractive and comfortable and his staff among the nicest people I have ever encountered in a doctor's office, I haven't minded the wait, He dropped my health plan a few months ago, and though I'm going to try a new opthamologist, I like Dr. Stefano well enough to consider going back to him and paying for it myself if I can't find another doctor I like as well.

    Stefano, Dr. John A.
His level of expertise is extremely good and very high. He is not really strong on bedside manner, he is rather abrupt. Everyone here has heard of him and come from all around to get lasik by him. He has state of the art equipment and is very knowledgeable.
