Winchester Plumbing & Gas Services, Inc.
Keith showed up a the exact time agreed upon. He not only lit the pilot light with ease, but he cleaned the unit and repaired a short in the wiring. We told Keith that we would like to learn as much about the operation as possible (home recently purchased). Keith was very through and patient as he explained the components and how the system operated.

STAY AWAY from ACT they are thieves and will take your money.
This was a horrible experience dealing with the owner(Bart) of Advance Chimney Technology.  They were hired to remove an old gas fireplace, installed a vented chimney and a new fireplace.  They were quick to show up, inspect the property and provide and estimate.  They were also quick to require money up front, over $3700.  They cashed my check the SAME day, within minutes of giving it to them.  The indicated and promised the fireplace to be here within 5 to 7 days.  They also claimed to be Regency fireplace dealer.  A week went by and I had to call for an update, just to be told they needed to order the fireplace....  many phone calls and weeks later i was told that they received the wrong fireplace.  I was told every story in the book about what they were going to do and all about how others made mistakes.  They came to the home with the wrong fireplace and took measurements trying to make it work, it was too deep, they order the deep model and not the standard model.  Then they wanted more money as the deep one was more expensive. I refused. I had contractors waiting on me as they had delivered product to install and they wanted to be paid, however the fireplace had to be installed first.  I asked ACT to install the chimney pieces so others could complete their work and be paid.  Again every story in the book, first they said is was not possible, then they had to order a different pipe to make it work, then they were returning the fireplace and would get the new one,.... on and on and on.  Finally, ACT showed up with the original fireplace, the wrong one, and managed to install the fireplace, however they did not bring all the parts.  I was able to allow other contracts to complete services while I continued to battle with ACT from the remaining parts to the fireplace.  Finally, they delivered what was supposed to be the remaining parts, only to find out they never ordered the correct doors we requested.  From that point, I have never heard from ACT agin.  I had to hire additional contractors to set up the stove, which was nearly impossible as I found it extremely difficult to find a fireplace provider in the first place.  Thanks to my stone mason, he knew a guy that installed gas furnaces that came to my home and read through the manual and manage to set up the fireplace, of course at an additionally cost out of my pocket.  While we were battling with ACT we contacted Regency corp for help.  Their rep called us and stated that they had major trouble with ACT taking people's money and never returning.  ACT was stripped of their dealer status and ACT is buy fireplaces illegally from someone in which they could not determine.  Their rep also informed me that the county was supposed to inspect my stove to ensure it was safe.  By this time, the job was complete and the stove is behind the stone wall. So, I do not know if it is safe.  The Regency rep also promised to stop by, but he never lived up to his promises as well, about like ACT. We managed to finally complete our project but had to cancel our family Christmas as our home was torn apart.  STAY AWAY from ACT they are thieves and will take your money.  STAY AWAY from Regency Fireplace as they do not fulfill their promises either.  I even told Regency I wanted to buy the missing doors, but I never heard from them again.

    Duct Clean 1974
I am so pleased with this service.  I called another company prior to US Clean Ducts and after getting an estimate of over $1000 (with the mold excuse), I decided to look on Angie's list.  I found a special listed with US Clean Ducts for less than half.  He did a great job and like others have said, didn't try to upsell other stuff I didn't need.  Definitely recommend them!

Dan Sly's Tree & Landscaping, LLC
Mr. Sly was fantastic. His review of our trees left us feeling confident that not only could he and his team complete the work, but that was considering the long-term care and health as well. The crew who came by were all friendly and fast moving (granted it was COLD!). There was a minor miscommunication about some services, but they not only performed the tasks they said they would but cleared out some dead brush as well.
We fully intend on reaching out to Mr. Sly and team for some future work.

    Colonial Chimney and HVAC
I hired Colonial to sweep my home fireplace chimney, making a morning appointment several weeks out.  The evening before they were to come, I received a telephone call from their customer service stating that they had to cancel my appointment due to another customer's emergency.  While I understand and respect the reason for the cancellation, it nevertheless left me in a difficult spot as I had arranged to be home that day.  I asked them to reschedule me for a morning appointment the following week.  After many phone calls back and forth, they were unable and unwilling to do so - offering me only an afternoon appointment, which I was unable to be home for.  I expected them to be a bit more pro-active regarding accommodating my schedule since they cancelled me with very little (12 hours) notice!

    Animal Control Solutions
I contacted Animal Control Solutions to evaluate an issue I have been having with house sparrows nesting behind my shutters.  I was immediately disappointed that they wanted $100 to provide an estimate, but I was desperate to get help with my bird issues.  I agreed to the fee and scheduled an appointment between 9:00am -11:00am on Friday May 30th.  I took the day off from work and waited.  They never showed up, called, or returned my phone calls.  I'm sure glad that I didn't pay them the $100 up front!

    Eternal Flame LLC
We have an outdoor firepit that is fed by natural gas and uses shattered glass as the media in the pit. Ever since the firepit was installed we have had an issue with the flame being almost invisible and what you could see was blue. A gentlemen from Eternal Flame came over and observed the issue and felt that there was too much glass in the pit and that the pieces were too small. He spent 30-40 minutes pulling our excess glass and then sorting the smaller pieces from the larger pieces so that he could put the larger pieces near the burner to allow more air flow. This simple change made a huge difference in the color of the flame and our firepit finally has the yellow flame that we had hoped for.

    Professional Chimney Sweep
In October 2012, prior to using the chimney, we hired a chimney sweep to clean the chimney.  From across the room that chimney sweep informed us that there is "no way" that chimney should have passed inspection, pointing out a large crack on the back of the fireplace that could only come from burning wood too hot at the rear of the fireplace.  He discouraged use of the fireplace until the Fireplace Back Wall was repaired as such could result in the house burning down.
Dale White was contacted immediately and asked to repair the damages as we would not have agreed to close on the house without a working fireplace and the bank would not have closed on a house which failed chimney inspection.  He promptly replied and attached a copy of Professional Chimney Sweeps invoice which verified that the "fireplace is free of debris and did not need cleaned."  The invoice included "comments concerning your chimney and his guarantee is noted at the bottom."  Not only did Mr. White appropriately reply via US mail, he or an employee hand-delivered the response so that such was received in a timely manner.
On December 31, 2012, we wrote Professional Chimney Sweep enclosing a copy of Mr. White's letter, Mr. McGaffick's own bill, as well as three color photographs which clearly pointed out the extensive damages which he denied seeing.  We requested he "reply to this letter within ten business days indicating how Professional Chimney Sweeps proposes to ameliorate this failure on your part prior to our notifying the Better Business Bureau, Angie?s List, the Veterans Administration, and the local media."
It has been almost a year and Mr. McGaffick has neither replied to our request or ameliorated his failure.
We were forced to repair the fireplace wall at our own expense costing approximately $400.
USAA, the bank which closed on our house, was reported regarding the inadequacy and obvious negligence.  As a result, the company will no longer accept inspections or repairs provided by either White Signature Homes or Professional Chimney Sweep.
Not only did Professional Chimney Sweep's negligence cost us $400 in repairs, but had we not had the foresight to have the chimney cleaned prior to use, we could have lost our house.  This is absolutely inexcusable.

    The Gas Store Inc
Simply research-shopping a propane fireplace insert. Owner very helpful and quick to work up a number even though I was not really a buyer. I like the Mendota product line and liked the price offered on the base-product. Did not think my upgrades and add-ons were over priced. In Frederick / Clarke Co. Or Winchester area be sure to visit these folks as you are making your plans for a fireplace - new or insert.

    ASH BUSTERS CHIMNEY SWEEP
Robert gave me a discount for having the dryer vent and the chimney cleaned in the same day. He left no soot in my living room--I would never have known from the room's appearance that a chimney sweep had been there. He then vacuumed out my dryer vent -- our dryer is very far from the exterior wall, so our vent is about 20 feet and includes several turns (he can handle at least 30 feet of venting). He then ordered a cap custom-fitted to my chimney (to keep out birds while letting smoke out) and came back eight days later to install it, after it had come in from the special order.
I was so happy to find someone in our area who would provide these services, I didn't do a price comparison, but I was happy with his services and professionalism.
