Clothing Alteration reviews in Vienna

I have been going to this business for many, many years.  Hems are usually fine, and in this case, the hems are fine.  In the past I have had the waists of pants taken in, and they always remain too lose.  I have never had sleeves shortened before--anywhere.  When she measured the right arm, it was too short, and I asked her to make it longer so that it touched my hand.  She then also pinned the other arm.
When I tried the jacket on at home after picking up my clothes, it is clear that the sleeves are both too short and not even.  The right sleeve does touch the edge of my hand when my arms are down.  If I raise them forward, it is almost an inch sort of my hand.  The left sleeve ends about 1 inch above my hand with my arms down.  With my arms raised forward, it is at least 1 1/2 inch above my wrist.  It looks ridiculous.
I went back this morning to see if something could be done about it--which I doubted, since it was necessary to cut off the sleeves to shorten them.  The lady measured the sleeves from the shoulder seam to the end of the arm, and advised me that they are even.
I guess my arms are not even--which surprises me, but my legs aren't even, so who knows.  All I know is that on me, this jacket looks like I am wearing a child's jacket.  I have never had sleeves shortened before, so I didn't know what to look for when it was pinned.  When the replacement jacket arrives and I take it elsewhere to be altered, I will be much more careful.

    Best Tailor
I do a bit of sewing and can usually do necessary alterations and repairs. Well, this time the zipper needed replacing on my
?down? coat and I didn?t want to tackle that project. After checking with Angie?s List, I decided to take the coat to Best Tailoring. They explained the technique that would use and told me the cost was $45.00. I thought this was high, but knew I was unable to make the repair myself. We discussed the type of zipper that would be used and I left the coat.
It was ready right on time - two days later. They did not use the zipper we discussed, but it was well done and it worked! I was charged $40.00. I think he discounted the price by $5.00 due to the zipper substitution.
    I would use them again.

    Kings Park Tailoring
It took several weeks. The job was very well done. I was able to pick out the quality of the liner that was used. It was finished when he promised. I have worn the jacket a lot in the cool weather since then and it is holding up well, the stitching is very good, etc. He put in a complete new liner including in the sleeves and in the pockets. It is a favorite jacket of mine and is probably about 10 years old and the old liner was worn out. It was still my favorite jacket and the outside of the jacket was still in good shape. So even though the new liner was expensive, it was well worth it to me. I don't recall the exact price, but was about $100 or a little over.

    Tracy Young
It was excellent!  Tracy was super professional and really friendly.  She did a great job making a dress that was super huge on me look amazing.  I didn't look like a beached whale.  I actually looked like a super cute pregnant bridesmaid thanks to Tracy.  I didn't think that was possible!!

The stitching I had them do has held up well, I gave a lower score because it took a week to get the items back and the cost was only so-so for what was really done.   I really could have done the repairs myself, but was leaving town and needed the pants and gloves for work the day I returned, 4 days later.  Once I had gone in and described the sewing needed, they told me it would take an extra 3 days (7 total) to do a couple basic repair stitches.  Though I thought that was excessive, I didn't want to search for another tailor.   The shop was nice, clean, and the staff was friendly, so maybe they were just swamped with other work, but they didn't go out of their way to make an exception for me after I had asked for the quick turnaround.

Ellen Karim Alterations & Custom Designs
I was sent to Ellen by a friend, so I gave her the benefit of the doubt when she didn't quote me a price at drop-off.  She said she would let me know at pick-up, which was less than a week later.  My husband specifically explained what he wanted done with the repairs, indicating a neat hand stitch, as opposed to a machine.  She used a machine.
My dress was taken in, with the material left in, "in case, I gained weight" (yes she said that!).  I made the mistake and didn't try on my dress prior to leaving.  She made one stitch to hold the revealing chest area together.  She didn't take up in the shoulder area.
She did a lousy job, she should have been able to quote me when I dropped my items off.  Ellen claimed she had been doing this for 30 years and in my opinion, she should have been able to quote a price.
When I picked up my items, which were ready a day before I needed them, she asked me if $150 was okay to charge me, this is ridiculous, unprofessional.  We won't be going back there again.

    Doris Custom Design
Doris was only one of two people who called me back from Angies list (and I called 8).  She is so organized and precise.  She took an old bedspread (duvet to be precise) and conveted it from a twin to a queen.   I had really liked the fabric and a dead friend had made it but there was no more of the fabric)  Doris asked for a picture of the twin duvet and told me by email how much fabric I would need.  I went and found some coordinating fabric and brought it to her.  When I got there she had a design she had drawn based on the pics I had sent her via email.  In 10 minues we were done. She made one suggestion for an extra pillow which was a minum price and it was a great suggestion.  It was finished in three weeks with what seemed to be a fair price (although I havent shopped a lot for that sort of thing) and it looks great.  One of the least effortless home decor stuff I have ever done.   She does home consults evidently and the only thing I would change is I might have let her help me pick out the fabric from the get-go.  What a find!

I hate him. He ripped me off totally. He charged me so much for the skirts. I went to him several times and it wasn?t done. His service was really bad. His pricing was high. The quality and workmanship was dreadful. I could have done the work at home, I just didn?t have time. It wasn?t really worth it at all. The people were polite enough but I didn?t like the quality of his work. The store is okay. He made it sound that the work was difficult. His price was ridiculous. I will not use him in the future.

    Judith's Boutique and Alteration
She was very professional. Her work was beautiful. She had it done when she said it would be. We paid quite a large amount of money for the work and I was disappointed when she didn't steam it after she was done.
