Home Builder reviews in Triangle

The work was completed in one day. All the left over nails and other material was picked up. I came home and everything was cleaned up outside. The roof looks amazing. The two tone color of the shingles really makes my house stand out. The workmanship looks awasome. I would have never expected to be so excited about a roof, but it really made such a huge difference.

    A & P Builders

These guys are extremely easy to work with, very eager to please, and honest to a fault.  They are highly competent in most areas of construction, and, to a high degree, their subcontractors are highly competent in their areas of specialty.  The subcontractors are also very responsive to A&P.  A&P gave me a good price relative to the several other quotes I received and stuck with that price, except where I requested changes, and in these cases, they and their subcontractors were very reasonable.  We are extremely pleased with nearly everything A&P has done.

The amazing thing is that they did the work with very little documentation.  Very few drawings ? only drawings that most designers might call to-scale sketches ? were made, and I only saw one, un-detailed schedule ? in an e-mail ? which proved way too tight to keep up with.  I will say that I did take it upon myself to obtain a $100 home-design software package and make a reasonably-complete, 3D design on the computer, which allowed me to better envision the project and to provide A&P with some additional drawings.  I would highly recommend that anyone considering extensive construction work like this (by A&P or anyone else) either do a 3D computer design themselves or have someone do it for them.  John of A&P has told me that he wants get into doing this himself, so this might not be an issue with them in the future.  A detailed schedule (say in Microsoft Excel) that someone checks and updates regularly, and which is shared with the subcontractors, would also be very helpful.

Very likely at least partially because of the lack of documentation, there were some things which were not completely satisfactory.  There was an issue with the new garage floor not being well aligned with the adjacent basement floor, which might have been avoided if the layout of the slab had been completely documented beforehand.  There were also some drainage issues, which resulted in some water getting in the original basement during the construction (some of my tools are rusted), and an issue with the new garage floor not lining up well with the driveway.  A&P did take steps to at least partially fix these.  I would definitely recommend thinking through all drainage and landscaping details beforehand so that it is completely clear what problems or extra expenses might be encountered.  There were several other minor issues, most of which A&P has corrected or for which we were at least partially compensated.
