    Rapp Remodeling And Repair
It was very difficult to find someone in this area that does smaller jobs. I had several areas of wood rot around my back deck doors and the entire front porch needed replaced from rot. I had several people come out to provide an estimate but that would be the last I heard from them. Rapp was the only one that followed up with an estimate. I had to wait 2 months because their backlog but they came out when promised and completed the work over 4 days. I am very pleased.

    Evergreen Contracting Corporation
Everything ran smoothly and turned out beautifully.  Attention to detail was there and the work was overbuilt in some aspects.  The owner, Roger Sprigg, is very meticulous.   I doubt the framing was 1/8" out of square.  He kept his word and the schedule every step of the way.  He wasn't the lowest bidder I got for the job but wasn't the highest either.  When it comes to construction you get what you pay for.  I'm happy to have it done right the first time with no worries.

    Custom Design Works Inc
We contacted Custom Design Works ("CDW") via e-mail, sending a photo of the existing structure, providing rough dimensions, and a general idea of what we wanted.  We inquired whether they were interested in building an addition for us.  (Two other companies were also contacted in the same way -- one didn't bother to respond and the other responded in a half-hearted way that proceeded no further.  Earlier attempts to engage builders resulted in little interest.  Perhaps the job was considered too small or too remote.)

Tony, the owner of CDW responded quickly to our e-mail, made an early appointment to visit us, and appeared at the appointed time.  He spent time getting to know us and our house, listened closely to what we wanted, floated some ideas of his own (which were better than what we had in mind), and told us he would have plans for us "soon."  "Soon" was an understatement  -- he moved quickly to put together plans that we loved.
After we gave CDW the contract,Tony and his staff worked closely with both the county and our HOA to ensure that all permits and inspections were promptly secured.  During the remodel process, certain problems with our home were uncovered.  The lead carpenter took the time to show us the problems and causes and how these would be remedied in the new construction.  Information as to what was happening and why was shared throughout the project.  We are pleased with the final product and would not hesitate to recommend CDW to our friends and neighbors..

    Southern Landscaping & Construction Inc
There are almost too many problems with this company than I can adequately describe. First problem was the contract. We signed it and gave them a check for half payment of a little over 10,000.00. They never put in the completion date of the contract. We signed the contract in April 2010 and after inumerable delays, excuses, and failed promises we terminated the contract in November 2010. We were left with an incomplete paver job, some digging for concrete driveway forms (zero concrete) no deck work at all. Southern Landscaping took our 10,000.00 and did almost nothing after over six months of stringing us along. You can check on the Virginia State Corporation Commission's webpage and discover that our experience is not unique. Southern Landscaping apparently uses the same technique with others....get a very large downpayment, don;t fill in all the contract information and then delay, delay, delay. Excuses included eye surgery (three times) mother in rest home (twice) weather (too many times to count and the weather last summer was pretty dry). Too hot, too cold. Owner's teenage daughter needed attention. ON and ON and ON. Totally dishonest bunch of people. Buyer beware!
