    the crew was wonderful...the quote for the job ended up just being a bit shy of 50% of the actual cost....was totally shocked to see the actual bill. I would have NEVER agreed to this transaction at that price. Live and learn!!! Be careful of the quote....

    It was terrible. We were scheduled for a move and given a time for service. I called at the end of that timeframe and they didn���t answer. Instead of calling me back they text to tell me they would not be able to make it. When you have something as big as a move to do, you���d think you���d want someone who is reliable to get the work done. They did not do that for my family.

    The crew arrived promptly. My husband showed them around, then left with John and another crew member to bring back the few items remaining in the storage space. My husband had already brought most of the items to the garage. The rest of the crew was to get started, but every time I looked outside as I was working on packing, it looked like they were just standing around. I started to get nervous and asked my husband to hurry back with John, thinking they just needed the boss around to direct them. Unfortunately, it quickly became apparent that John was not able to direct them. I'm not sure why, if he just thought they were doing okay or if they just resisted his direction, but they continued to drag their feet through the entire 8 hour day. To be fair, the heat was intense - the heat index was 105. However, my husband and his friends were still out there working hard - in comparison, I couldn't believe how slowly the crew was moving. I offered them coffee, donuts, gatorade, pizza, but they turned it all down. Also, before noon, the largest crew member had broken my daughter's rocking horse, hand made by her grandfather, because he decided to SIT ON IT. I still can't believe this. When asked what compensation he would make, John offered us $25 for materials. The same crew member suffered from heat exhaustion and sat around for an hour recovering. John compensated us $25 for this as well. As the afternoon wore on, we realized we were not going to get everything on the trailer and began the search for a moving truck. John began to indicate that he wasn't sure his crew would be able to get the piano onto the trailer. At one point he said they "would try" and if they couldn't, they would leave the piano in the garage. My husband pointed out that we showed John the piano and that was, in fact, the reason he brought four crew members to our move, and indicated that he expected John to get the piano on the truck. In the end, the piano, on a furniture mover, went up the ramp very easily and was easily wheeled into place in the truck. However, after that, everything went downhill. First, they secured the piano very poorly- we provided 4 E-track clips that hooked into the side of the truck, and two ratcheting straps to hold the piano against the wall. They insisted that one set would be fine, and ignored my husband's requests to use more. After the eight hours, we finally asked that they stop. I paid John after discussing the two compensation items, and he left. We rested, then went back out. To my dismay, everything from the piano toward the end of the trailer looked almost as though it had been thrown in. I have photos: an antique teak card table was put in between a file cabinet and an upright freezer. No moving blankets were used, although I had purchased 6 dozen and not only made them available but begged the crew to use them. The table was left in the trailer with the top twisted at an angle and would surely have broken if we hadn't repacked it. I found at least four hand weights, 10 and 15 lbs, laid loose on top of a stack of unwrapped file cabinets that was about five feet high. What did they think the hand weights would do on a trip from Virginia to Michigan? Our 9' Christmas tree, which is fairly heavy, was at the very top of the trailer, on top of a wooden folding chair that was on its side, providing a base that was about 2" for the much larger Christmas tree box. Plastic tubes used for plastic storage shelves were just piled onto another shelf balanced on top of the piano. In spite of our constant requests to use more moving blankets, they used maybe 8 in filling 23 feet of the trailer. Lots of wooden furniture was completely unwrapped. The file cabinets were not even shrink wrapped to keep the drawers in place (although some other furniture had been shrink wrapped). And to top it all off, we found 3 dish barrel boxes laying on their side. Those boxes are specifically designed to protect fragile items when used correctly! So, after spending 8 hours packing in this heat, we had to spend another two hours that evening UNpacking the last 7 feet of the trailer to correct these issues. We were really worried about the rest of the trailer, but were unable to spend the time unloading what I'd paid $1200 for someone else to do. When we finally got to Michigan and a much more professional team was unloading the trailer, the poor packing job resulted in an avalanche of boxes in the front of the trailer. John's crew had packed very light, partly empty boxes on the bottom of the trailer, and they had been completely crushed. They had piled lots of very heavy book boxes on top, making the load unstable. They had put heavy totes on top of light totes, resulting in crushed totes. I have no idea what may have been broken from either being crushed or from falling because of the poor loading job. We did move the very large stepladder and made sure to better secure the piano firmly against the wall of the trailer before having it brought to Michigan, so thankfully that was okay. In the end, I wish I had never hired these movers. John talked a good game but his crew is not the right quality to support what may genuinely be a good guy, and he was unable to manage them in a manner that ensured quality service. As for professionalism - what kind of moving professional sits on a small rocking horse? At that point I had no experience with movers, but after we got to Michigan I found a local moving company that was very professional and showed me what my moving experience should have been like. Moving is stressful enough - no one needs this kind of added stress. There were extenuating circumstances: it was really hot - but at no point did John say, we need a longer break, we need to come back this evening, we need to come back tomorrow. We have a lot of stuff - but we showed John everything at the time of the quote, with the exception of the storage space, which my husband described in detail including size of the space and how densely the space was packed (not very). I attempted to contact John before posting this review and left a five minute message on his voicemail. I have had no response in a full week.

    The people who did the moving were good, but coordinating with the local office was very frustrating. Ultimately everything worked out but a lot of effort from our part. The repair did turned out good

    McCoy's took the work, arrived on time with a bigger truck than necessary (unlike the first company who showed up with an under-sized truck) moved EVERYTHING demonstrating their knowledge of how to safely pack the truck. Finished in less time than expected and charged less. Should have hired these guys FIRST.

    With only a little over 3 weeks before the move, John was able to accommodate our needs even on such short notice. He was quick to answer my questions and provided me several possible moving scenarios in an attempt to save us the most money. On moving day, John and his team made quick work of moving our items - they were efficient, careful and polite. They went above and beyond, even taking out extra boxes down to the recycling center for us! And the cost was SIGNIFICANTLY lower than even our lowest estimate from any other moving company. I would not hesitate to recommend this company!

    John Collick, owner, has schedule after couple days of requesting some moving to be done. His crew have been very careful with our cargo transferring from there truck freight to our house using manpower and forklift for the heaviest cargo. They finished within two hours which was quick to us. And the price was very reasonable. Thank you again John!!! We definitely will use your service!!!

    I got a receipt the first time and they said it would only be $675 for the move. They called me the next day and they said that they are going to charge me an extra $1200. One day was for packing and one day was for moving. The move that was charged was only for $396. I saw that they were offering a deal through Angie's List and I thought that means they were providing good service. I have sent pictures to the manager about what they were using to fill the boxes. They were stuffing only 5 garments in a box that could fit at least 20. 
    The most important part for me was that they charged me the extra on a credit card that I had not authorized. I signed for the $675 but they charged $1896.50 without my consent. I would highly suggest that nobody uses this company. They said they are a part of united van lines but I wouldn't use them if it was my last option available. 
    There is a manager there (Erica Grey) told me last week that she would call me back but she hasn't responded to anything for me. She is the one that told the clerk to charge me the extra $1200. They called me and asked for the new CC date so I gave it to her.

    The movers were on time and took extra care and time packing up our furniture.  It was raining heavily that day and they wrapped each piece carefully and not a drop got on them.  We ended up paying for 2 extra hours due to the added time of wrapping.  Well worth the money.

    i contacted the company before purchasing a big deal to see if they could accommodate my date as it was only about 10 days out. They could and i purchased the deal and finalized the date.  They called the day before to confirm and provide arrival time. Tommy and Cole were the two young men that did my move. They were punctual, courteous, friendly, professional and very efficient. They completed the move in 3 hours! Everything was placed exactly where it should be and everything arrived in great shape. i would definitely use Brooks again and will recommend them to others.
