Bennetts Creek's Home Away from Home
It was $60 for the weekend.  I have a little tiny dog.  I have been using them for about a year.  It is very clean.  They appear to really love the animals.  I can actually feel that when I take my dog there.

I used this pet sitting service because my normal pet sitter was on vacation. They were quick to respond to my call and set up the appointment with the actual sitter that would be doing the work. The sitter txted me several times during my absence to let me know that things were fine with the animals. He even exercised my dog via a tricycle with a leash attached. I came home to three fed/cared for pets along with a detailed log of what the pet sitter did while I was gone.
There were a few minor mishaps however. First, one cat litter box was completely missed during cleanings. Second, a doggie and quot;accidentand quot; was left in an area that the pet sitter apparently didn't go in. One of the litter boxes that was cleaned had an accident next to it that was left where it was.
In a pinch I would use them again, but I'll be going back to my primary pet sitter.

Bennetts Creek's Home Away from Home
Ended up spending $200 at the vet with my pet immediatly after picking them up from Home away from Home.  Apparently my pet had an allergic reaction to something at thier location and began scratching themself sevierly.  I was never notified when this occured.  When I picked up my pet I though he was just dirty from playing in their outside area.  When I got home and took a closer look and he was not dirty but his whole chest and neck area was covered in dried blood.  The reaction was so sevier that they had scratched themself so much they were bleeding.  Home away from Home gave my pet a bath right before I picked them up, there is no way it could not have been noticed and not once was I notified about it nor was anything said to me when I picked up my pet.  I will never use this facility again.

Great place for doggie daycare. Indoor play areas and large outdoor play areas. Staff is so nice and they really care about your dog. Owned by the vets at Bennetts Creek Veterinary Care. I wouldn't leave my dog with anyone else. I would highly recommnend this doggie daycare facility.

    NANSEMOND VETERINARY CLINIC
The groomer didn't look at the record to see what type of animal it was she was grooming. I was the only customer with a cat and she went up to the dog owner next to me twice and even told the dog owner her name was wrong on the schedule. I never heard her call out my last name or ask for my cat by name. I explained to her what I wanted done and told her the last time I was there I had the lion cut done because my cat had mats. Her next question was if the cat had ever been groomed there before. Essentially, she didn't listen to what I was saying to her at all. When I went to pick up my cat the attendant kept referring to her as "he" even after I referred to the cat as "she" and "her." This particular cat of mine has been at this vet since 2003 so I would think they would know her. This is one of several things that have bothered me with this vet recently. This same cat is diabetic, but under control with diet. On a recent 5-day trip she had her blood tested 3 times @ $30 ea. The first test results were a little high, but not abnormal. I was never contacted in advance to get my authorization for the additional tests and the vet seemed to be offended that I wanted this to occur. Another one of my cats died recently. I wanted to get a necropsy. I contacted the office and was given bad advice. I was told to put the cat in the freezer instead of the refrigerator, which reduced the chances of getting viable results. Also, the attendant knew the lab she referred me to couldn't give me back my cat to bury, but didn't mention this. I ended up skipping the necropsy in favor of the option to bury him. I have known some vet offices to acknowledge deaths of their patients with a note to the family, but not this one. I'm on the lookout for another company that might be more sympathetic and owner-oriented. On the positive side, the vets themselves are knowledgeable and professional. The clinic is clean and they offer boarding services.

    SMITHFIELD ANIMAL HOSPITAL
We have many experiences with Dr. May and Dr. Payne. But the reason we initially went to them is because they were willing to take a urine sample *I* collected from my cat and test it. Our elderly cat was acting strangely and we wanted to get his urine tested to make sure it wasn't a UTI or crystals blockage. The catch was that this cat HATES the vet and we didn't want to stress him further by bringing him to a vet. All the other vets in the area insisted they had to have the cat in the office to get a urine sample (not true... but that way they could charge you an EXAM FEE!). I knew this cat would not pee under pressure (we'd been down that road before) but we could collect his sample ourselves with just a little planning. Smithfield Animal Hospital was willing to help us and tested our collected sample without insisting on seeing the cat. Because of that, we switched all 4 of our animals' care to them and have been going there for years. We have given them thousands of dollars between boarding and regular care. It's a 25 minute drive for us, and we pass 3 other vets on the way there... that's how kind they are. After a tornado hit our house, they boarded our dogs until we were able to repair our fence and make the house safe for them. They also encouraged us to bring our cats in and said they would keep all our pets as long as we needed. Then when we picked them up, they refused to take payment for the boarding. Their kindness still brings me to tears typing this. Don't know what we would have done without them.

    CHURCHLAND ANIMAL CLINIC
I have been taking my dog here and boarding him here for about 9 years. They always take great care of him and go the extra mile to make him feel comfortable and loved. The doctors are excellent and very knowledgeable about different breeds. I trust them with my dog.

    ARMISTEAD ANIMAL INN
This facility is very clean and they do an excellent job. They are also very friendly too. My dog goes off without a care in the world. They charge around $10 to $15 a night depending on the size of the dog. If your dog stays more than 7 days, they will give you a discount. Also, if you bring them in just for a bath or something, the charge may be higher. I am very pleased with them and my dog had a great stay.

    KITTY ISLAND, Inc.
This is a cats only facility and the cats love it. Each has an individual roomy ''closet'' with a screen door so they can see out (fish and gerbil videos are playing). Nice kitties are also allowed out to play. Owners are great people and very accommodating. My only hesitation in recommending Kitty Island is that it will be come too popular and won't have space for my cat!

I really enjoyed taking my dog to them. The staff there was very friendly and seemed to be very caring to our dog. I have used them in the past and I think my dog enjoys going there by the way that he wags his tail when we show up. They are totally trustable and informed me of my dogs daily routine when he was there.
