    Ace Home Improvements
Our old 16' x 24' deck had many warped, broken and rotting boards. The rails were slivered. The deck was an ugly mess ready for demolition and replacement. We chose Ace Home Improvements for several reasons. They arrived promptly on the date and time scheduled to give an estimate. Josh, the project manager came in person to measure and get the details of what we wanted which included two small ramps for our elderly, handicapped dogs to use going up and down the deck steps. He also gave us some additional ideas that would improve the use of our deck. Within days, we received an estimate and a potential start date. Of the 5 companies we contacted for this job only 3 ever came out and called /emailed estimates of which we felt Ace was the best for this project and our budget. Weather kept Ace from starting on the agreed upon date, but they kept in touch with us to inform us of the new start date. Josh was there every day until finish and did most of the building himself. When the project was finished all tools, materials and rubbish were totally removed leaving our yard absolutely clean. We love the deck and have recommended Ace Home Improvements to two other families.

    Sturdevant Construction
At first Naham appeared very interested in helping us outline our project and we trusted him. He is very personable, but watch out. After the contract was signed, that is the last we ever saw of him. This after he insisted we contact only him if we had any problem with the job. He would not return phone calls or come to the job site to review the work. He completely subcontracted the work out but provided little to no instruction on the scope of work to them. The workmen did not come until way after the completion date in the contract and they had no idea of what was required. They were not even provided a basic plan (such as it was). There was no co-ordination of the door supplier for the correct install and the details in the contract were very poorly outlined. We thought we were in good hands. Had we known Naham operated this way we would have insisted on a much more detailed complete set of drawings and contract. The contract only served to protect him. The job was a disaster and only after the sub contractor understood what had happen did they try their best to complete the work. But without proper complete plans and communication from the start, many mistakes were made. The materials arrived and were not what we had agreed to have installed. They were custom made and not returnable and were the first glimpse into what the project would end up being. For example, these door openings were to occur in particular positions and were installed in the wrong place. This was Naham's responsibility to oversee the job properly executed, but he did none of that. We got so upset with Sturdevant and Naham that we finally just paid them to get rid of them. We were told he had done hundreds of such enclosure but it became clear he had done precious few. We had asked to get a certain pattern of class in the doors (5 over 3) before signing verbally but Naham quickly forgot what was said, and only the contract became his position. I should have written that right on the contract and made him sign it back then. He also uses a WEB based sight but it did not tell us when the crew would come, or the job start, or when they would return. We canceled a number of future larger projects with him and his firm, and would never recommend him or Sturdevant Construction in Newport News to any one now. It was a very frustrating experience on a simple little job...they stole the joy out of it completely. Stay away from this guy he is too slick. He got his money and we have a memory of what not to do. Watch out and read the reviews this in not an isolated case.

So amazing! I can't stop staring at the new stairs! We needed to replace unstable deck stairs. We turned to Mid Atlantic after seeing all the beautiful pictures of decks they built in the area. Immediate response. Almost no wait. Project completed in 2 days! Robert and Bobby are about the nicest guys in the world and they did an incredible job. I cannot recommend them enough!

Robert was very upfront and honest about the project/pricing. There were a lot of unknowns because they had to remove an original deck that was not properly constructed. He explained everything in detail, from workmanship to costs. I would absolutely hire them again!

    The Roofing Company
Called the Roofing Company because I had hired them several times in the past for major roof sheathing replacement, chimney leak and vent stack rework and they had been responsive in setting up on-site inspection with possible solutions. Very much impressed with that work so I referred my problem with the patio roof leak to them. The inspector showed up within several days (right at their schedule date and time). His investigation revealed that when I had siding installed, the siding company had to remove the gutter and associated sheathing around the eaves to install the siding. They then reinstalled the sheathing but lapped the edges in the wrong procedures so that water leaked behind the surfaces instead of shedding it outside the lip. I was impressed that he had found the problem and approved them to do the repair. The inspector stated they had a 5-6 week workload to clear before they would be able to do the work. I approved the schedule and deposited 50% of the estimate ($1,100 total). During the waiting period we had several major storms and by communications with the front office, over the phone and email, asked if they could delay slightly the repair work so they could do some other major storm damage repair work but would try to keep my work as close to the schedule as they could. I told them that it wasn't a problem and they rescheduled for a 2 week delay. I had to contact them to change the date again because of a situation I had and they agreed. When we finally got to the repair date, the work crew showed up exactly at the scheduled time and immediately started the work. When they removed all the sheathing they found some rot in the soffet and eaves and replaced the bad wood. They installed all new cladding (made in the truck for custom fit) and replaced and properly secured the guttering. The foreman said there would be no additional charge for replacing the wood and charged me for exactly what the estimate was. While this is a large company with (I imagine) a large clientele they were responsive to my needs. I gave them a "B" for responsiveness ONLY because of the long initial schedule date, but once that date was committed they were eager to work within the agreed schedule. This is my "go to" company for all things roof related.

Old deck boards were removed, existing joists were reinforced and PVC boards were installed on the deck and existing ramp. Mr. Norman was very easy to work with in planning what needed to be done within my budget. His crew was efficient and cleaned up at the end of each work day. The old deck boards were removed on Monday and the work was completed by Friday. I am very pleased with the end result.

    A&T Quality Hands LLC
After contacting, setting up and confirming two different appointments with A&T to review the work required and to obtain an estimate, A&T failed to show to both appointments. Neither did they contact me to explain why they missed the appointments. Very disappointed with A &T quality hands given Angie's superior rating.

The finished project was gorgeous. Mike brought his products to our home to choose and it was definitely the right choice. Found out Mike is a fellow veteran with a very warm spirit. He completed the job when he said he would and my husband and I are really pleased. Thanks Mike

It was a pleasure working with Robert Norman and his team from start to finish. Robert came out, surveyed our situation, explained what our options were, and gave us a fair and reasonable estimate. He was very responsive to questions that we had over the next several days. His estimate was one of three. Based on his price and thorough explanation of the work involved - and based on favorable reviews that we found on Angie's List - , we selected Robert. His team composed of Bobby and Jamie were able to come a week early. Each of these two guys knew what he was supposed to do and coordinated very well with one another. They were very capable, conscientious, and efficient. The work (demolition and new construction) began on Monday about 9:00 am and was completed by noon on Friday of the same week. Great job! We are very satisfied with our new deck.
