Oral Surgery reviews in Sterling

My biggest complaint is the lack of support. I had my consultation 16 months before the surgery, which was completely my fault, because I'm the one that didn't schedule. In that gap of time I had apparently misplaced a collection of pre-and-post operative instructions. To be honest, I kept all provided paperwork together in a marked folder. The only instructions that existed instructed to call one week prior to surgery, with the phone number to my preferred pharmacy, so they could call in my prescriptions. Two medications came with instructions and one only said and quot;Take as directed.and quot; This is where the pre-operative frustration started.
I called the doctor's office to inquire about the and quot;take as directedand quot; medication. The receptionist was dismissive and indicated I should read the instructions I was provided during consultation so I went over what I was provided and found no instructions. I called a second time and explained I didn't have any instructions. This time I was told I should read the directions that came with the medication. Inside the box was one of those big pieces of paper written in tiny, tiny print with thousands of words describing every last possible drug scenario. I found the section about how to take the drug and it said your first dose could be X amount to X amount - take as directed.. so now I'm getting frustrated and I call the office a third time. This time they explain the direction over the phone - very quick, very straight forward, and I'm satisfied that I know what to do. Still not sure why that took 3 calls to resolve.
The day of surgery I show up at the office and the receptionist again mentions this golden packet of information that I don't have. I inform her I don't have it, and as far as I know I've never had it, to which she was quick to pull out a piece of paper I initialed over a year ago indicating I received it. Fine. Whatever is in that packet is obviously irreplaceable because you're not getting another copy of it.
Surgery took longer than expected and was not completed as explained. I was initially referred to this surgeon to extract one wisdom tooth. The surgeon recommended removing all 3 of my remaining wisdom teeth at the same time. He made it sound like it would go easy from a surgery perspective and really makes the most sense. In the end he totally removed one, partially removed one, and left the third completely intact due to complications.
At the consultation I was told the whole thing would take 1 hour. My escort was told 40 minutes. My escort (mom) later told me that after 1.5 hours of no updates the receptionist was careless and would not check to provide an update.
For my one week follow up appointment the doctor explained he had to avoid nerves, and my mouth was too small for him to properly work. While I certainly understand that unexpected things can come up, and I appreciate he did all he can to avoid severe damage, I was really left wondering why none of this was brought up during the consultation.
2013 Update: I wrote the above on September 04, 2011 while still having complications from the surgery. There was a pre-scheduled 2 or 3 month follow up appointment after the 1 week follow up that called for standard post-surgery xrays to make sure everything was healing properly. Despite telling the doctor I was still having complications he sent me home without even looking because his xray machine was broken (again). No further appointments were scheduled. To this day I don't know if everything healed properly, and trust me, this doctor doesn't care.

I was taken into my appointment, immediately upon arrival. My teeth were cleaned and polished, and xrays were taken. I did not have any cavities. Both Dr Vu and his chairside assistant Yobania are always looking out for the patient, making sure that I am comfortable. Dr Vu and his chairside assistant explained what was going to happen, each step of the way. He took time to answer all my questions about my dental health. Six months prior to this most recent appointment, I did have a filling that was replaced by Dr. Vu, at his new practice, that had been filled many years before by different dentist, but had fallen out. Dr Vu filled that cavity, was extremely gentle, and during the entire filling process, made sure that I was comfortable. Dr Vu's office manager, Julie, is very pleasant. Dr. Vu, his chairside assistant Yobania, and his Office Manager Julie, were all employees of another dental practice that had been in Sterling, Va, with Dr Vu an employee/dentist at that practice, for six years prior to Dr. Vu starting his own practice. The owner/dentists of that previous dental practice, sold their practice approximately 1.5 - 2 years ago. I was thrilled when I found out that Dr Vu started his own practice, as I trust the care and comfort that he gives. I also know that he is an honest dentist! When Julie was the office manager at the previous dental practice that was sold by Dr French, she assisted our account, as our insurance company had originally denied the submission of a claim for a bridge and two crowns, which was supposed to be covered by my insurance policy. Julie called them and submitted the claim again; the insurance company did pay for that claim, due to Julie's efforts. Julie saved my considerable time with her submitting the appeal. I really appreciated all her efforts.

I was a patient at Dr. Alayssami’s Vienna/Dunn Loring office. At every appointment they tried to sell me some expensive procedure that no other dentist I saw before or since ever even suggested. First it was adult braces. Then a deep cleaning. Then they insisted that my low gumline required a skin graft to restore my gums to the tune of $3,000 performed--of course--by their in-house periodontist. Other dentists either haven't mentioned my low gumline, or have just mentioned it as something to keep an eye on. If you visit Dr. Alayssami, I would recommend keeping an eye on your wallet.

I still remember the pain and extended recovery my parents endured after a root canal procedure -- and I was quite worried what I would experience when I was told I needed a root canal back in 2005. I got lucky, though . . . my regular dentist recommended Dr. Bidgoli and I was pleasantly surprised at the lack of pain during or after the procedure. I can honestly say that the only pain I felt came from my wallet!
In the seven years between 2005 and 2012, Dr. Bidgoli has performed three PAINLESS root canal procedures for me. I actually fell asleep during two procedures! She is a very caring and patient-focused dentist. She explains each step and offers suggestions, so I know exactly what happens next. She also schedules 6 and 12 month follow-ups (at no additional charge) to make sure everything is healing OK.
I can't comment on the quality or quantity of reading material in the office because I've never had to wait past my appointment time. Dr. Bidgoli and her staff run a very efficient office and respect patients' time.

Dr. Ohri is by far the best dentist I have ever been to. She talked me through everything on the x-rays in detail and was willing to answer any question I had. Dr. Ohri did nearly all the work on my teeth herself and really relied on the dental assistant to merely assist. After the initial cleaning appointment, I had to go back for a filling and to have a crown replaced. I never felt like she was in a hurry to leave and she actually called me the day after my appointment to make sure there were no problems with my temporary crown. I went to her practice at 8170 Silverbrook Road, Lorton, VA 22079.

Got some fillings for cavities. Was nervous because I hadn't had fillings in many, many years. Shot was practically painless. Overall went fairly well, but I am still having some very sharp sensitivity to cold. More than I was expecting. I am not sure if it is normal or if I need more work. Dentist seems very experienced and is a very pleasant person to speak with.

Dental surgery is never fun, but Dr. Bluhm did a good job. He's very sensitive to cost/patient payment, also I had to talk him into anesthesia for a single tooth extraction, since he pointed out insurance didn't pay for it. (I was happy to foot the bill to be knocked out). His 'bedside manner' is very professional; he's not particularly the "warm & fuzzy" kind of guy, but don't let that put you off, because he knows what he's doing. His schedule seems to get clogged up in the summer, with the college students having their wisdom teeth extracted, so be sure to confirm your dates early if you have long-term issues that will cross the summer months. I had to wait a few months for all the college students to clear out before we could pick up with my issue again. His office staff is very pleasant also, which is refreshing for a medical front office.

The office staff is very friendly. Dr. R is the main dentist and he is very willing to explain things to me and make sure I am comfortable with everything. My hygenist is great.
