Working with Paulo was great from beginning to end. We discussed the walkway first, and I had some concerns regarding a previous estimate and how they wanted to approach the job (pour over vs tear up). He immediately agreed that my concern was vaalid, and the proper way to do this was to tear up the existing walkway and re-pour the entire thing. I also had a concern about irrigation lines that ran underneath the walkway - he reassured me they would be careful in that area, and also asked that I leave spare parts if I had them on hand (line, connectors, etc.) just in case they did hit it, so that they could repair it! On to the shed: it's a sizeable slab (12x16) and so we talked about size and layout for a bit. He got what I was looking for right away, and even offered to pour a ramp where the doors would be, as well as pouring a larger slab (13x17) to give a little extra (6") on each side. Day of: they showed up on time (7am) and started working on the shed location immediately. Paulo walked back with me to finalize - I brought out plans for the shed, and he took the time to go over it and listen to some ideas I had about the ramp and door location (even though I should have had that ironed out ahead of time). Again, he got where I was coming from right away, and I appreciate that he took the time to actually listen and understand what I wanted, and make sure the crew understood what we were doing too. Everything turned out great! He was back at the end of the day to check on everything and go over some basics with me (e.g. keep damp for a few days, don't walk on for a day, etc.) The crew was excellent! Very polite, did a great job, cleaned up, worked their tails off in this heat... I did the only thing I could at that time to help - give them bottles of water. This estimate was the same as the first one I got, and they were going to put in a lot less effort (pour over existing walkway, no shed ramp) so I'm very happy with how everything worked out. Paulo is fantastic to work with - very personable and takes the time to understand what you're looking for. Remembers details of your conversation even weeks later.

Crew were pleasant, punctual and professional. They were also easy and willing to work with when faced with dilemma and needed to consider different design options with me. Everything went as planned and job was completed in 2.5 days. I would definitely hire again and recommend this company to others. Thanks to Jim and crew for a job well done! C. Mitchell

    JP Companies Inc
Excellent. I was very impressed with the JP Companies. First, professionalism. As I was gathering estimates, other firms would bee doomed before they even rang the door bell. One was literally wearing flip flops and tank tops t-shirt. Another forgot to bring his measuring wheel. JP Companies was prompt, communicated well, and helpful in the pricing the project. For the installation, they showed up when they said they would. The overall project was 1 day for the driveway and 2 days for the stone walk. The workers were very courteous and seemed conscious that they were in a neighborhood with children, etc. The workmanship was great and I definitely recommend JP Companies.

Anthony's Construction Concrete & Masonry Inc
I'm afraid we have joined the other customers who have had deposit checks cashed and work never performed. Please do not use this company. It would also be helpful if other customers can update their progress in seeking a refund, either directly from Victor or through the court system. Victor cashed our $600 check eight months ago and we have tried to schedule the work over a dozen times. We are now waiting for his reply about receiving a refund by 8/12/2018. After multiple calls, Victor did finally refund our $600 on 9/7/2018.

    Salzano Custom Concrete
I am very pleased with the results of my new stamped concrete. I love the curved footprint that Mr. Salzano suggested. I had one area that looked a bit rough when they were finished. I didn't mention it until Mr. Salzano sent his follow-up email to ask if I was satisfied. He had someone out almost immediately to fix the spot. If you are used to working with contractors, you will be amazed at how responsive Mr. Salzano is. He kept me informed on a regular basis. I highly recommend his company.

    Mottern Masonry Design
This was the second time we have had Mottern Masonry do stone work for us. We would highly recommend them to anyone for masonry work. We called and had a proposal within a day, and work started within three days. Motterm Masonry has dedicated crews that have been with them for years. These guys are EXPERTS. In the planning process, my concerns and ideas were given full attention; even questions in the middle of the process were addressed. I was able to ask for lines to be redrawn and I felt that the design recommendations were spot-on and the result is beautiful. Crews showed up on time each day, worked hard while they were here and cleaned up the site each afternoon before leaving. They were courteous each time we spoke. As the demolition of the old walkway progressed, they discovered the stoop was still in perfect condition. They called their boss, conferred, and he and I decided to leave a perfectly good cement stoop instead of tearing it out and re-pouring it. The owner not only included the stoop in the guarantee with the work done by them, but refunded to us the price of the unused concrete and labor. Talk about HONESTY. After the concrete set, they pieced the flags of thick bluestone in a pleasing and exacting pattern and faced the upright stair riser and exposed side of the stoop with rock. The curves in the walk were meticulously cut and laid. Details such as slope for drainage, even spacing for grout lines and perfect leveling between stones were executed with care. Crafted with EXCELLENCE. Finish work was completed quickly and thoroughly. Grouting between stones and caulking joints where the doorjamb and siding intersected the masonry rounded out the on-time and under-budget front walk. Mottern Masonry upped our curb appeal to AMAZING.

    Dominion Concrete & Masonry Corporation
Contractor arrived on time, removed old concrete and asphalt in short order cleaning all construction debris and hauled it away.  Only problem was the concrete delivery was late to arrive but that was the fault of the concrete company, not the contractor.

    MC Fence
Let me start by saying I am still waiting for them to follow through with their commitment of their one year warranty, a year later. After making multiple attempts to contact them I finally received is scheduled date for them to come and inspect the issues. 3 scheduled appointments ALL 3 were no call/ no show. On the 4th attempt they finally showed, he assured me that these things were covered under the warranty. Almost a year later I still do not have a scheduled appointment for them to come and fix the issues. The problems during installation, 1st they cut 7" into a tree trunk to run the fence. Damaging the tree so badly I will have to pay to have it removed. When putting in a post they smashed a concrete curb surrounding the pool. They attempted to fix but broke right off within 2 months. Some of the post caps were not attached. The top rail was supposed to be screwed down not nailed. Now there is massive warping of the board. A removable panel was in the contract but never installed. The latch on the gate was screwed into nails, causing the wood to split and the latch won't stay on.

    U.S Construction Group
I have been so pleased with my experience with US Construction Group. IThey totally exceeded my expectations.
The front stoop was cracked and sagging, and actually starting to pull away the stonework on the front of the house. The process was accelerating quickly due to all the rain and snow we've had lately. I had been advised that I might have trouble finding a company willing to take on such a small job, but US Construction Group had  no issues at all. It was important also that we replace the existing stoop exactly, otherwise we would have had delays while we waited for HOA approval of any changes.
Our original appointment to assess the project  got derailed by the blizzard, but once that was over, Mr. Padilla came out to look it over. He took pictures and measurements on 5 February, and I had the proposal in my inbox on 8 February. The price was well within what I had been expecting, and included demolition and removal of the old stoop, installation of a gravel base, and inclusion of bi-directional reinforcing rebar. We accepted the proposal, and Mr. Padilla promised to schedule the work as soon as weather permitted.

Sure enough, this morning, 22 February, he emailed that today the weather would be good enough to do the work, if that was okay with me. I gave the go ahead, and was so pleased when I got home from work to find the crew finishing the smoothing process. Mr. Padilla came out after a while, and he told me what they'd found. The old stoop had only had rebar going one direction, which was part of the reason it was pulling away from the house. The other reason was that the stoop was hollowed out in many places underneath, due to water runoff. The crew had installed the gravel base, filled it in, and laid the new stoop with the rebar  in both directions, which will make it much stronger going forward.
While we were discussing the work, the mason pointed out that I had a drip from my gutter that was affecting the concrete; he had a plastic bottle there to catch the drip, so it wouldn't damage the concrete while he was working/smoothing. There is a leaky gutter joint right over the front door that I have not yet had successfully repaired, and that was dripping, although it hasn't rained today. Mr. Padilla got the ladder and checked out the gutters, then he and his team put a sponge on a rod and spent over an hour drying out the gutter as much as possible, to lessen the drip and therefore give the concrete a few more hours of protection before tomorrow's predicted rain. He really does not want me to have even a tiny drip mark on my concrete; he said even a tiny drip would quickly erode into a hole. It was nearly 9:00 pm before they finished up dealing with this added problem, but finally they were able to string the strip of tape across the  walk to keep people off it. As they were packing up, he reminded me that I should not use salt on the porch this winter or next, to protect the finish, and suggested I might want to build up the areas on either side, to channel water away from the stoop.
What more can I say? Mr. Padilla and his crew were so pleasant and professional.  As promised, he got the job done the very first day it was possible for him to schedule it. They replaced the stoop and threshold in one day, and it is exactly the same dimensions as the old one. They really went all out to do the best possible job; clearly they take a great deal of pride in their work. I am extraordinarily pleased with the entire process, and definitely recommend them.

    Collegiate Sealers & Paving
I contacted Collegiate in mid-June and were told that our driveway would be repaved in August due to a backlog of jobs.  When we did not hear from them by early August, my wife called them, and they said that they had tried to call our landline (which they had from sealing our driveway a few years ago), but could not get through.  We dropped our landline a couple of years ago, and I had updated our phone numbers when I called them in June.  They told my wife that they could pave our driveway on Friday 8/14/15.  When they had not arrived by the time I returned home in the mid-afternoon, I called to see if they were still coming.  I was told that there was a mix up on the schedule: that we were listed on 9/14/15, not 8/14/15.  He apologized and rescheduled our job for Monday 8/17/15.  My wife was very upset, because she worked 12-hour night shifts both Thursday and Friday nights and didn't get much sleep during the day on Friday, because she was waiting for them to arrive.  She had even called Friday morning and was told that we were on the schedule for Friday.  A crew of five workmen arrived in the early afternoon on Monday and completed the job in two hours.  They did an excellent job and were very professional.  They removed the old asphalt (which was very cracked), smoothed out the base (which had dipped just outside the garage allowing puddles and ice to form), and applied fresh asphalt.  If it wasn't for the scheduling and communication mix ups, I would have given them higher ratings.  I was very happy with the crew onsite.
