    Advanced Chimney Technologies Inc
On 8/21/17, upon their inspection, I was told that there had been a previous fire in the chimney which had cracked the chimney. I was also told there was no liner in the chimney and one would need to be installed. I was given a quote for $2500 and was informed that if I gave them a 50% deposit, it would allow them to start the work within a couple weeks. So, I handed over a deposit for $1250, which was posted within their bank account that day. By mid-September, they had still failed to come and make the necessary fixes to my chimney. After several calls and texts between that time, was always told they would come the next week because they were finishing up another job. Over the span of 2-3 weeks, they always made an excuse as to why they couldnt make it to my repairs. Once the work was started, it took them over a 3 week period to fix the cracks and attempt to install the liner. The liner itself took a week because the two technicians couldnt get it to fit properly. They also could not get the original wood stove attached to the liner - the owner of the company, Bart Elkins, showed up and got the liner to fit into the chimney. At the time, because of the lack of daylight, they had only one small thing to fix (attaching the boot and the stove) and would return the next day. In good faith, I paid the remainder of the money, $1250, to the owner of the company for a total amount of $2500. The next day lapsed into another few days before they showed up again, after promising to come the next day. When they came to attach the boot, the boot that they had ordered took several days and when it did arrive, it wasnt the right one and I had got wait another 4-5 days for them to return it for the proper one. Another 2 weeks had gone by, a new technician showed up. They had to push my stove all the way into the fireplace, thereby making the facade of the fireplace unable to be reattached. The technician attached the boot, put some putty around it at the joint, and I was told that they stove could now be used. I was told, at that time, that the owner would custom make a facade and bring it over the following week. This, of course, never happened. This was approximately the last week in October. Immediately upon burning wood in the stove, the putty around the joint started to crack and fall off. At that point, you could see about a 1/4-1/2 inch gap between the boot and the top of the stove. See pictures attached. When I texted ACT about this, I received a phone call a day or two later. I was told that this was fine and that the putty really wasnt needed in the first place. I was, again, told that a custom facade would be made and attached the following week - which of course turned into another week where nothing was done and the facade never came. I had to hire another company to fix and to this day, they have ignored my repeated requests for a refund.

    GNS Roofing Corp
I solicited 5 quotes to do the work.  GNS came in at $8,500, which was $100 higher than the lowest.  The lowest quote however was quoting a 25 yr. shingle and a 15# felt whereas GNS and the others were quoting 30 yr shingle and 30# felt.  Of all the companies quoting, GNS was the only one to come out and actually get up on the roof to take measurements and make sure there were no unexpected extras that come from not knowing what is really going on up there.  After meeting and talking with Jose, the owner,  and getting the quote (first one of the 5)  I felt very comfortable with the man, his appearance, demeanor, and sincerity.  I had to wait for the other quotes to come in, but frankly I had a strong feeling that it wouldn't change things.  The other quotes came in at $8,400, $9,500, $10,900, $12,400.  The big difference in quotes kind of scared me a bit, but we had Jose come out and talk to my wife and me about the job and the product, and we ended up signing a contract and my wife and I both felt complete confidence and trust in this man.  We ultimately decided to have our shed re-roofed to match the house and that was an additional $500, but that was not a part of the quoted prices.

Ashbusters came to my home and swept my chimney and then came back the next day and installed a chimney cap to aid in lessening smoke and wind effects on our wood stove.  They were very punctual and professional showing up when promised and performing their work quickly, quietly and just as promised.  I would definitely use them again in the future to work on my home.
