    Capital Caring
Their help was absolutely essential - they took care of ordering medicines and equipment as needed, gave advice and reassurance where appropriate. Without them my wife's last days would have been miserable, and I don't know how I would have survived. That said, coordination and hand-off between hospice nurses on different shifts (workweek vs nights vs weekends) could be improved.

    NC Little Hospice
It is very expensive care (over $450/day, not covered by insurance), but you have a 1) REAL comfortable home environment (built in a converted duplex house) with NO institutional feel; 2) A 2:1 nurse to patient ratio with only 8 beds, I think. The average stay is just a few days, and they ask for a week payment in advance. The chaplain is superb, and a volunteer who is a Deacon. There are places for families to gather and talk, pray, as well as places for games and TV. Cookies are baked by the staff, and there are soft drinks and ice cream as well. This hospice depends on a small endowment, volunteers, and donations. We donated the unused stay funds to NC Little Hospice in gratitude for the wonderful work they did in supporting our large family. My father was VERY pleased to come here after a long stay in the hospital and rehab care, where he could not sleep. This is where _I_ want to go when the time comes and I need this level of care.

My mother was with them for long term care. We also used their capital hospice in addition to that. She passed away about a year and half ago. My sister paid the bills, so I don't remember the price. She took care of it at the end of it, but it was not cheap. It was very nice though, and I hope I would be able afford it. She had the same nurses for seven years, and I was pretty impressed with that.
