    Phoenix Home Services Inc
Let me start by saying I dont give praise when its undeserved, and in fact I tend to be overly critical. So its significant that I cant say enough incredible things about the folks associated with Phoenix and the absolute professionalism with which they approached this job. At every step they went above and beyond the minimum - for no other reason than to simply do the right thing. They sincerely take pride in their work, and they should. - they took my average house with an old carport and turned it into a residence people stop their cars to take photos of (really). The garage is simply awesome; its way better than my wife and I imagined. We started with a meeting with Clint, who listened to what we had in mind and produced 3D renderings that really helped us visualize things. He offered suggestions and gave important feedback that allowed us to save money while simultaneously get more than we guessed would be possible. Then we met Steve, who was equally laid-back but also equally attentive to our needs. Steve is the on-the-ground guy who makes sure all the work flows efficiently and that its done right. He makes it look easy when I am fairly certain its often a bear keeping all the balls in the air. He understands leadership - he has no problem loading up some debris just because he happens to be in the neighborhood, or pitching in on whatever task needs addressing. Trust me - hes the guy you want in this role. The concrete guys and brick guys are artists! My retired neighbor watched them carefully while i was at work and was amazed they didnt cut any corners - even with things that would go unseen. They took the time to make their work perfect. The electrician was also a great guy - actually took time to check out an issue that turned out to be unrelated to the project at hand, but his generosity and conscientiousness were much appreciated. Then there was Dan - the kind of craftsman you wish existed in every company you work with. Dan wasnt satisfied until he made sure things fit perfectly and looked amazing. Again, just because he has pride in his work. Hes fast but old school - and the quality of his approach to construction shows. . . Clint stays in the game throughout, BTW, making sure youre happy, checking in to ensure expectations are being met and things are perfect. You rarely see this level of communication, and it was refreshing, Beware: Clint is freakishly responsive to questions - if you email him on a weekend, dont be surprised if you get a response within minutes! I could go on, but I think you get the picture. If you are reading this I assume you are considering options and weighing the pros and cons of different companies. I did the same. But do yourself a huge favor and at least meet with them to see how they operate. They are a joy to work with! Oh, and one last thing - they are fast! They finished our garage very close to the day I originally was hoping they could START. They just did everything incredibly well and so efficiently that things hummed along way ahead of schedule. I am writing this to help other potential customers who want an honest review. But to any Phoenix Home Services folks (including subcontractors) who might be reading this - thank you for making our home beautiful. You impressed the heck out of a critical guy with high expectations (and a carpenter for a father-in-law-law!). You should be proud and I will certainly call you again at the drop of a hat!

    Rent-A-Pro Handyman Services LLC
Rent-A-Pro was a great company to work with. I got several estimates in the area and they were the best by far on price. The owner personally came out to assess the job. The workers that came out were very nice and did a great job with the various projects; I was very happy with the quality of the work. I added some work in the middle of the project (painting rake boards) which I knew was not in the original estimate and resulted in an additional day of work and cost. However, the work on the original estimate took longer than expected (about 4-6 hours with two workers). The owner acknowledged the overrun and gave me a discount on the cost for the extra time needed. Overall, I would say I had a great experience with Rent-A-Pro given the various projects I had requested. I would use them again for general home improvement projects. I have not been able to find another vendor in this area that beats them on price and quality.

    All Renovations Inc
Omar and Jim were very straightforward about everything (costs and schedules, and changes to each as warranted). Both were quick to respond to requests and questions. While I rate Price as A, since All Renovations did come in as the lowest bidder of the builders responding to my request for quote, remember that this is northern Virginia construction costs, and anything you think of after-the-fact or didn't have clearly established with any builder will result in price escalation. Also expect the unexpected. Final cost over original estimate was a little more than 10%, which is what I expected from the start. It should not be looked upon negatively as it concerns All Renovations. Make sure everything is in order for work outside the scope of All Renovations. I needed a tree root pruning before the foundation could be started, but I didn't have it ready in time as the schedule required. The All Renovations crew needed to clear the roots to keep on schedule, as the arborist wasn't available for another full week due to schedule movement as a result of inclement weather. It cost more for All Renovations to do the root removal so the foundation could be laid, but that is because I didn't have it synchronized ahead of their schedule.

    SGS Builders Inc.
After seeing what a terrific job SGS Builders, Inc did to a similar model house in our development, my wife and I called the owner of SGS Builders, Mr. Steve Sanders, to meet and discuss our project. We provided him with a conceptual design for the addition we wanted, and Steve Sanders quickly provided us a detailed proposal and cost estimate that was very reasonable in our opinion. Knowing how well he and his team had performed on our neighbors home, we hired him to build our addition. One of the things that impressed us was the fact that SGS Builders is committed to working on and completing your job prior to taking on other work. He uses an experienced team of skilled subcontractors who he has worked with for decades. He worked with us on every aspect of the design, provided a detailed plan/drawings for the addition and kept us up to date on scheduling and execution of every phase of construction. Vice extending our existing HVAC to the new addition, which would have been a costly and difficult task, Steve suggested using a separate Daikin multi-zone mini-split heating and air conditioning system for the new addition. He is very hands on and very easy to work with and was very accommodating to our needs and several changes during the construction of the addition. Steve showed up on-site almost every day and directed his subcontractors in each aspect of the job. Steve worked with the County for all permits and inspections. Space was limited on our side lot, and Steve was very focused on ensuring the design and actual construction stayed within the allowed setbacks. Multiple surveys were taken and Steve worked with his subcontractors to ensure the footings, foundation and framing stayed within plan dimensions. Steve Saunders and his team of subcontractors did a terrific job on our addition. My wife and I could not be happier with the results. Money well spent. SGS Builders totally transformed our house. We highly recommend SGS Builders, Inc. Steve Saunders and his team provides a great design and build option for any home addition and remodel needs.

    KMS Sheds
First, Barbara and Milton are such a pleasure! Second, the shed came out exactly as planned with no problems. My husband and I did quite a bit of research before choosing this company. We needed someone that would build on site as our gates and lot wouldn't allow a pre-fab shed to be dropped in. Five Star Sheds to the rescue! Their prices were competitive with the pre-fab sheds that we found, and we know that the materials that they use are superior. Finally, because it is clear that Barbara and Milton take pride in their work, we know that the shed is built right and will last!

    All Renovations Inc
My experience with All Renovations was fantastic! Omar and Jim were always eager to answer any questions I had and kept me informed throughout the whole project. Their pricing was very fair (even when I added work onto the project along the way). The workers were always on time and very courteous. The work is beautiful and I will recommend them to any and all of my friends.

    Ravensworth Custom Home Improvements LLC
This job was actually to do some minor work to prepare our house for sale. It was a sad decision for us, because over the three previous years, Ravensworth made our house into a home suited perfectly for our family. We purchased a home that had not had any significant work done in almost 30 years. They remodeled every bathroom and kitchen, helped us redesign the top floor to create a master suite. There were few rooms in our house that did not have their fingerprints on them. They designed and built doors so our dining room could double as a home office. They were ready with design ideas if I needed them, but we're happy to make my visions a reality. They helped me sort through what changes might not be worth the money and why. When necessary, they brought in top quality partners to help them execute their work. They did hardscape work in our yard, as well as dealt with some drainage issues. They installed new garage doors. When circumstance caused us to move, our house sold in one day for ask. We have had contact with the new owners more than once since we moved, and they always tell us how much they love the house and everything in it. Time only continues to prove the quality of their work. I recommended them freely to anyone asking for a good contractor.

    Door Doctor Inc
My experience with Door Doctor was excellent across the board. The office staff was friendly and helpful when I called to request an estimate. When Jermaine came to give the estimate, he did a great job of explaining my options and giving me guidance in choosing the appropriate amount of insulation for my needs.  I got estimates from a few different companies and I chose Door Doctor both because of their courtesy and professionalism and because they had the best price.  The staff that did the installation were friendly, efficient and did an excellent job.  I am very happy with my new doors and I could immediately see the difference they made in making my garage and the adjoining family room warmer.

    SGS Builders Inc.

SGS Builders Inc., headed by Mr. Steve Sanders, is an absolutely amazing team of skilled and friendly craftsmen who truly care about their work and pleasing their client with a first class product.  They epitomize true professionalism in this contractor-rich area.

We recently hired SGS Builders Inc. to take on a major project we had been putting off for several years.  Steve Sanders and his confederation of construction contractors made this project (we had been dreading) look almost easy.  The project was a combination of construction (turn a dilapidated carport into a first-rate garage w/new concrete flooring, finished interior, door opener, and driveway, add a three foot extension onto our existing front porch with ceiling fans and recessed lighting and slate floor, add a new slate sidewalk, and a transit window at the top of our second story staircase) and upgrades (replace architectural roofing, replace gutters, install Simonton windows, doors, Cedarboard siding, and finish with all painting and electrical work).  The cost of the entire project was well over $100k.  The project was completed in two months with no re-dos.

We received other bids, and while SGS was not the cheapest, we felt that Steve Sanders had the seasoned maturity and integrity to get it all done in minimum time and with real quality construction.  Even before we inked a contract, Steve spent his own time investigating and surveying the project to be sure he limited any surprises and his/our exposure to risk.  Steve was either on-site or readily available every single day of the contract.  He addressed each and every detail of the project and questions/concerns we had immediately and always accommodated our intentions. He ensured that there were NO dead time days except for one period of heavy rain during the concrete phase of the project.  There were contract teams on site every day.  Needless to say, we made a great choice in contracting with SGS Builders Inc. for this project.  Steve brought a crew of ?known? craftsmen who he had worked with on his many projects from 15+ years.  They were all steeped with the ?SGS Builders Way? of doing business---arrive on time, work with great skill, keep the client informed, produce a quality product and clean up each day.  Of note were his carpenters and electricians (new garage and porch construction), masons (garage floor, slate porch and sidewalk, and driveway).  Also his teams that completed the roofing, siding, windows, gutters, and painting phases were exceptional.

All-in-all, this contractor and his team exceeded our most hopeful expectations for a beautiful and functional finished product.  I do not think anyone in this area could have matched the care and concern that SGS Builders exhibited in completing our plan and reacting immediately to design changes.  We couldn?t be happier for a job well done; our money was well spent.
