Langhorne Concrete & Home Improvements Inc
Several weeks ago, I called Langhorne Concrete & Home Improvements Inc., and left a message stating my reason for call (foundation repair). I never received a return call (or message).....The company's blurb regarding its philosophy reads: "Customer satisfaction and service is our primary goal."....

    Abby Construction Co Inc
The recommended work was performed from July 2014 through September 2014. The job did not go well (and although I have tried on numerous occasions to communicate with Abby construction about the work completed on my home there has been no resolution. Isues with work completed: Immediately after the back sidewalk was poured it rained very hard exposing the rock in the concrete. Instead of replacing the sidewalk Abby applied a coating of quikrete overtop a portion of the sidewalk. This caused a two-toned look to the newly poured sidewalk. During this process footprints were left to dry in the finish. Also, it should be noted that mortar splatter from brick repair were left to dry on the sidewalk. Upon discussing my dissatisfaction with the appearance of the back sidewalk solution to this mess was to stain the sidewalk. I still expressed that the back sidewalk should be torn up and re-done and that I had no interest in painting my back sidewalk every year. Abby assured me that I would not have to re-stain the concrete every year so I was thinking a penetrating stain would be used. However; a valspar stain was painted onto the surface which did not adhere to the surface. I am left with a back sidewalk that is cracking, chipping and pealing. It truly looks like a homeowner project gone bad as it certainly does not even remotely look like a professional was hired.

     2. The patio that Abby had poured actually turned out well; however the new surface was power washed in attempt to remove dried mortar off the surface. This process left swirls in the newly brushed finish patio as the water force must have been too high for a newly poured surface. This process ruined the finish of the newly poured patio. Abby's solution was to stain this surface as well; however the stain did not adhere and is severely peeling off and crumbling. Again, the solution Abby came up with to fix their mistake of ruining the finish to begin with is unacceptable.

    3. Front Porch - My main concern with my front porch was the loose stones as some of the mortar was cracked. Abby had told me that I needed piers to jack up my front porch as the porch foundation had shifted over time causing the cracks. However; when installed the piers failed to jack up the porch foundation at all. When I questioned why the piers failed to move the porch at all - Abby told me that this was one of the few times this had ever happened. Discussing the issue further Abby stated that maybe the porch was reinforced by rebar somewhere and this was the reason the piers did not jack up the porch. Well, as a matter of fact my porch is reinforced by rebar and can be clearly seen in the basement wall block. Therefore: the recommended piers seemed unnecessary. All that was needed was a brick layer. Also, regarding my front porch - I had a time getting Abby to fix the loose mortar joints ( so stones wouldn't be loose on front sidewalk). In fact, Abby told me that it wasn't in their contract to fix. However; main concern about the front porch was the loose stone. Obviously, since the piers were not needed; Abby should have fixed the real problem - the mortar. Abby finally fixed a few pieces of the loose mortar but in the process ruined the smooth cut edge of my front stone sidewalk and used some very white compound which did not come close to existing finish. Finally upon very much insistence Abby hired a brick layer to fix a few more places where the stone was loose but that still left many stones untouched and still loose. The two areas Abby had fixed still stick out like a sore thumb and Abby told me those areas were done as a "favor" to me since it wasn't in the my contract. Now, I am left to hire someone else to fix their so called favor. One last thing about the front sidewalk - it was power washed half way and left that way. Maybe a small thing in the overall issue of other problems but still unprofessional.

     4. Crawlspace Encapsulation -Water is seeping through the cinder block wall that shares the wall of the crawlspace in my basement. Outside one of the underground vents was left open. The rest were bricked up; however the downspouts that discharge 2 feet from the crawlspace were left alone. Also, Abby did not re-build the foundation up or slope it away from the crawlspace. Now, I have a wet encapsulated crawlspace. Simply stated- Abby has left me $26,000 poorer and it looks like I have to spend another $26,000 to fix the same issues Abby was hired to fix. Before hiring Abby Construction I looked up online reviews and found that Abby had completed many local jobs even historical jobs in the Fredericksburg area. Also, Abby construction was going to complete a kitchen remodel in my home as they are one of the local contractors that Lowes uses for their kitchen remodels. I had put my faith and trust in them; however hopefully this review will deter others from making the same mistake.

From the moment they came out to look at our yard, they were extremely professional. The owner is a very talented young man who comes up with some great ideas (like our fountain wall)! The job was performed in a professional manner and in a timely fashion. The crew was great! I cannot say enough goods things about this Company! And, I will definitely use them again for any future projects.

I had a lot of work done to the exterior of my house this passed summer and the work done by Donnelly Concrete was the best money I spent. I have no complaints, no regrets, and I'd hire them again with confidence.

Saw work Donnelly did in pouring foundation for neighbor's garage, so knew quality of work.
They scheduled our job within 3 weeks of providing bid and had job done within 2 days. Workers were unobtrusive, quick and efficient. I didn't even know they were out there until I happened to look.
A crack in the concrete at the curve developed before the 5 day drying period was done. It was obviously a spot of instability in either the foundation rock and would be likely to crack again with the same treatment as the original. We contacted Donnelly, and they responded within 5 days. They broke up the areas with the curve reinforced the area with rebar to provide stability for the concrete. The area dried and has not recracked.
    Removed old asphalt
from pad in front of the garage and driveway, and poured concrete in same
area. Raised pad level to meet garage
floor, Melded concrete level with ramp to house, poured around drain from roof
rain troughs and angled pad to drain water to far side of pad.

    Sunfire
Researched "why" my stairs were pulling away from the porch. The original builder did not extend the pad out far enough and over time this caused gaps and cracks particularly at the seams. I contacted Sunfire and had them come out and provide estimates to fix the worst stair  or fix the entire porch. Brian hit the estimates were I thought it was fair and combined with the good write ups on Angies list choosing Sunfire was easy. I elected to replace all of the bricks which caused the higher dollar amount but I did not want to have two types of bricks showing. Brian, also took the time to explain masonry procedures and practices, which I appreciated. He obviously understands how to treat the customer - this treatment was the best I have had since arriving in Virginia (2008). From start (demo) to finish it took them a week to complete. They cleaned up upon completion and I am entirely satisfied with the job. I definitely recommend them for like or similar projects. Feel free to contact me ( john.m.crean@gmail.com) for more information I can email photos if you like.

    Donnelly Concrete Inc
First of all their office staff is exceptional, very personable and attentive. They came out very quickly and did a thorough survey. They spoke to my husband and gave us a quote for 4,000 to replace the existing pool deck. However, they said that it didn't really need to be replaced. There is always some settlement around pool decks and the 2 cracks could be easily filled by us. Which is exactly what we decided to do. We have the quote in case it becomes a concern for the new owner, but it actually looks very nice and who know the new owner may want to go in a totally different direction. In this day and age, to have a contractor come out and give you low cost options, when they could have gone for the sale is so refreshing. We will reecommend them to everyone we know

    Creteman Concrete Inc
Hired a contractor called Creteman Concrete to install a pad for a swimming pool and a sidewalk from my back deck to the driveway; specifically told the company that the pad and sidewalk had to be level due to spouse using handicapped accessible equipment to get from deck (which has a ramp to it) to car.  The companies employees were never on time, had two different crews come to the house on different days and each crew  contradicted the other crew?s work and foundation set up. When we  noticed they foundation for the sidewalk was being set incorrectly we called the company and they stated they would send someone out but they never arrived when anyone was home. When we say the side walk was not poured in accordance with specifications we called again and once more was told someone would be out but they never showed up. When I talked to the owner on the phone he was confrontational, did not want to hear what I had to say (kept talking over me and refused to let me finish my conversation) and  flat out told me he would not come to my house to address the issues as he was ?to upset to deal with us?,  I had to hire a lawyer to resolve the problem.  At the behest of my lawyer we had another company come out to look at the sidewalk who measured the sidewalk and found it to be 7 inches out of level. Could place a tennis ball and let go if it (without pushing it) and it ran down hill from the drive toward the deck ramp running off the side walk about 2/3 the way down the sidewalk. After being threatened with court action the company settled for a fraction of the price for the pool pad they installed.
Bottom line, I would not use this company nor recommend them to anyone for use for any reason just do to the poor customer service the company owners displayed let alone the very poor quality of work. On a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being the worst I rate them a -10.

I hired this company to pour a stamped concrete patio with steps, two sitting walls, fire pit, and lighting. It was an $8100.00 job. They completed the job and it turned out terrible. It is the worst stamped concrete patio I have ever seen. It is totally amateur. It took over a month to get the owner/salesman, Brian Delawder, to respond to our calls. He finally looked at the patio and agreed that it looked bad. He said he would make it right. He proposed pouring a new slab over a portion of it and tearing the other portion of it out and replacing it. Then the games started. I had to call them weekly to get them to schedule the repairs. The office staff, one of which is Brians wife, Dawn Delawder, are rude and disrespectful on the best day. They scheduled my job 9 times and failed to show up every time! They repeatedly lied and used every excuse imaginable. Finally an employee showed up without an appointment and began work. He did some framing and tore out a section of the patio. He broke the lighting wiring and a portion of one of the sitting walls while prepping for the new patio. This was in June and they have refused to finish the job. They walked away and have been unresponsive to my requests to finish this job. I believe they tore up my patio with no intention of fixing it because I was so persistent in pressing them to make things right. I had a terrible patio poured by Creteman Concrete and now I have a partial terrible patio that is a total mess. I beleive this company is intentionally scamming people. Their previous company, Creteman Hardscapes, is out of business and has multiple judgements against them. Their current company and their past company are both VA Class B Licensed Contractors. I have filed a complaint with the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation as they have violated many of the State of Virginia's requirements to be a licensed contractor including fraud and abandonment of the job. I urge anyone that has been scammed by them to file a complaint with VA DPOR. These people should not have a Contractors License. I also recommend looking into the local Courts information sytems online, both civil and criminal, and see what type of people you are dealing with before hiring a contractor. I hope this saves someone else from losing a lot of their money to a fraudulent company. Thank you Angies List.

It’s beautiful. I love it. It looks good. Some of their customer service was crappy. I would tell others about them. They did do what they said they were going to do. It’s just that they were trying to be super busy. When they came and started doing the work, they did it in a day and that was like superfast. It was great. The guys worked hard and got everything done. They were polite. They did really good job. They did it really fast. They were here when they said they were going to be here. They were excellent on the price. I couldn’t find a cheaper price. When I started having problems, they didn’t want to talk to me anymore. The main guy was not really responsive. I would probably not use them in the future because I had issues with them.
