It went great!! From the first interaction I had with the companyBrittany who answered the phone was so kind and welcoming it set a great tone for the service to come. The project manager for my job was extremely attentive and responsible I felt confident in leaving it in his hands. Juan and his team did a fabulous job and exceeded my expectations! I will definitely be using them again .

    HIVEX Basement Finishing Co.
Outstanding! The folks at Hivex are very professional and personable, very easy to work with. We had a demo/rebuild of our basement and are thrilled with the outcome. From start to finish Hivex displayed quality workmanship resulting in a truly first class final product. If you are looking for basement refinishing in the Fredericksburg area you can't go wrong with Hivex. I would strongly recommend them to anyone and would not hesitate to use them in the future.

Joe and I got in contact and we talked about our plan for the basement - types of flooring and where it was going, etc. We quickly scheduled a consultation where he brought some samples and measured.  We got the estimate quickly, accepted the price and confirmed options.  A sub crew installed all of the flooring (probably total 1000 sq ft combined) in one day (they were looking at 2 days, but ended up deciding that they could stay a little longer and finish up).  Both the crew's foreman/supervisor (who I never met, but spoke with on the phone) and Joe contacted us to confirm that everything went well, which it did.  All of it turned out beautifully and as expected.  Highly recommended.

Dan and Chris took a look at the area and provided an estimate while they were here.  The primary reason we went with them was their reputation - reviews, local, etc.  The secondary reason was price.  We were quoted double and 1.5x their price for, as best as we can tell, the same quality.  They listened to our concerns and wishes and gave an honest opinion on whether certain elements were worth the money, where we could save and how much, etc.  They have a pretty standard, but well-equipped, template for what they do and what they don?t do, what they provide and what they don?t.  There weren?t any surprises.  We installed some of our own network/audio that they didn't do - although they assisted wherever they could (pretty much anything that involved structure, etc.) and certainly addressed any questions or issues.  The whole project took around 6 weeks and the basement looks and functions perfectly.  We got what we wanted for a price we were happy with.  As far as the actual process, after the initial consultation, Chris took over a few initial and final checks and occasional inspections of progress.  A sub crew came in to do the framing and another followed quickly with drywall.  After that, the much longer process of ?the rest? started - trim, doors, eventually priming walls, bathroom installation, tile bathroom floor, etc.  A lot of the final stages were completed by Scott, who also professionally installed cabinetry we ordered separately.  We are very happy with the completed project.  And I?m confident that if we have questions or concerns, Dee Bee will be available to address anything that comes up.  All in all, without question highly recommended.

    Steve Spratt Improvements
Whoa momma. The estimate was for a roughly 10 x 10 kitchen....new cabinets, counter and backsplash--that is it. The estimate made our eyes water. We were absolutely floored.  The contractor we now are working with is charging us less than half that price. I am guessing Mr. Spratt does outstanding work for the price....but man oh man....I don't know anyone who can put that much money into such a small space.

Great, no more nasty grout lines to clean. Excellent attention to detail. Measure multiple times before performing work. What is the saying, measure twice, cut once? They live by that creed and it shows in their work. Highly recommended! Wish they built entire houses. Am now finding out the shoddy work done by the subcontractors that built my house.

    Diaz Painting Contractor
They were on time, there painting was excellent!! They painted many different colors as I requested. I gave him the paint colors he purchased everything. They took about one week to paint the entire house which included many specialty areas such as tray ceilings. He gave me advice on some areas and what colors to choose. He also rented scaffolding to install as huge stone ceiling fan on our 20 plus foot ceiling. They were courteous and cleaned up everyday. Left our home neat and clean when completed. I have hired them multiple times and loved them everytime.

My wife and I would rate the overall experience as a "C" (average). The contractor's attitude was usually on the negative side. He complained to us a lot usually about problems he experienced with previous or existing clients. We would also rate the overall craftsmanship as average. For example, when the contractor installed the tile backsplash, the next day some of the tiles could be pulled off by hand as we were applying a sealer to them. I discussed this with the contractor and his excuse was that he "got in a hurry" and did not apply enough adhesive to the tile. He apologized and fixed the problem. Also some of the trim cuts were slightly off. We would not use this contractor again.

Mr. Handyman of the Fredericksburg Region
Appointments were kept, job done, looks great.  Larry did a great job.  Job took two days, because of time and letting the tile dry.  Pricey, but hourly rate is given upfront.  Job went a little longer than expected, but still within the estimated range of time given at the initial visit.

    Kevin Fisher
My husband and I contracted with Mr. Fisher to install a tile back splash in our kitchen. He was recommended by a Fredericksburg area tile store where we purchased our tile. We paid over $700 for 21 sq. ft of tile, including the grout and caulking to match. The tiles are 1 inch squares, some tumbled stone, glass, and others ceramic, of varying intricate designs. Some have raised designs and some have etched designs. Mr. Fisher was prompt in returning my initial call for an estimate, and came a few hours later with his helper, Chuck.  He gave me an estimate of $400 for the job. They returned the next morning and did a little prep work, as the old tile had already been removed by another party. Chuck did most of the work, while Mr. Fisher went in and out of the house, taking phone calls, and would return periodically to check on Chuck's progress. When the tile was laid, Mr. Fisher stated that they would return in the morning to grout. They arrived on time, with Chuck bringing supplies into the house. I left the room for about 2 min. and when I returned Chuck was already grouting the tile and Mr. Fisher was nowhere to be found. Chuck applied most of the grout, with Mr. Fisher occasionally returning into the house to check on Chuck's work. Mr. Fisher applied some grout in the corners but the bulk of the work was done by his helper. Mr. Fisher continued to spend most of the morning outside on his cell phone.  While the excess grout was being wiped off the surface by Chuck with a wet sponge, I pointed out to Mr. Fisher that there was quite a bit of the sanded grout still left on the tiles, and he said that it could not be wiped off as it would affect the grout in between the tiles. I asked him how I was supposed to remove the grout and he said I had to let it dry and that I could "chip it off with the edge of a screwdriver". I told him that it would scratch the tiles, and he said that was the only way to remove the dried grout. He advised me to wait for it to dry overnight before I tried to remove the grout that was left on the tiles. I waited until morning and I proceeded to dampen the tiles with a wet sponge, and tried to remove the grout off the tiles with a soft toothbrush, plastic tools and other instruments with hardly any luck.  I called Mr. Fisher and told him that I could not remove the grout. He said that he was "too busy designing to clean the tiles" but would send Chuck in the morning to use a solution on the tiles which would remove the excess grout.. Chuck arrived the next morning and had two buckets of clean water, a container of some kind of crystalized acid and supplies. I called Mr. Fisher and asked him if this acid would damage the tiles or my granite countertops. His reply was no. Chuck used a rough brush to clean the tiles and a small amount of grout was removed. When the job was almost done,  I noticed that he was dipping the brush into the container of acid and rubbing the acid crystals directly onto the tile. I began to examine the tiles in both locations of the back splash and noted that there was damage to many of the tiles, at which time I directed him to stop his work.  Upon further inspection, there was a large amount of discoloration and damage to the tiles, with the finish and color being eroded off, and in some cases pitting of the tile itself. I called Mr. Fisher and told him the tile was ruined and he said that the only thing he could do was chip out the damaged tiles and replace them. I told him that I did not want him to do that, because over half the tile was affected  He agreed to come in the morning with Chuck at 8:30 a.m. to look at the damage.  My husband waited here with me until 9 a.m. I stayed home all day, called Mr. Fisher, left him a message and asked him to return the call. My husband also called him on two occasions after that and Mr. Fisher never called us back and never came to the house to assess the damage. I returned to the tile store where I bought the tile and who had originally recommended Mr. Fisher and talked to one of the salesmen. I asked him what could have been done to protect the tiles before they were installed. He said that most installers will put a piece of blue painter's tape on each tile to protect the designs. He also said that the acid crystals should have been mixed with water before being used. Mr. Fisher will not return our calls and we are out $400 for the installation, plus over $700 more for the materials. My husband and I do not recommend Mr. Fisher for any work, as he has shown a disregard for customer satisfaction and his professional services border on incompetent.
