    Clearly the mortgage department have no idea what they are doing. I have family members that are mortgage loan processors and the tactics / procedures that are ongoing at NWFCU mortgage department demonstrated the highest level of incompetency that I have ever witnessed. I have purchased two homes previously and I thought there were some things that were clearly incorrect.
    We waited over 6 months (began the loan process in February 2013) and were told repeatedly (called and spoke to someone weekly) that our loan was approved and was just awaiting return from the Underwriter. When inquiring about the extreme duration, we were told and quot;we have been swamped with a high volume of loans but that all is well and it will be set in a week.and quot; This pattern repeated over the entire duration of the loan process....6 months. We decided to continue with this process because we had locked a rate of 3.5% which is extremely good and that the lock and we had already had the home appraisal done back in March 2013 and our credit had already been checked . BIG MISTAKE!!!!
    In mid July, we were FINALLY notified that we would be closing at the end of the week. Later that day, we were notified that there was a lock rate revision due the factors such as and quot;credit score changesand quot;and quot; which our credit scores had not changed by much at all yet our closing costs nearly doubled!!!!! Again, why over 6 months to get this done???
    At this point, we were thoroughly frustrated and so I decided to contact my closest friend whom referred me to another bank. We reached this woman and explained our story and immediately she explained that it sounded like NWFCU mortgage was attempting to be rid of us and didn't want this loan to proceed. We waited through and quot;closing dayand quot; and heard nothing from email no phone call. Again, this type of response was typical during this process and no surprise to us.
    On the following Monday, we cancelled the loan request and went with my friend's bank. We will close within 45 days are all well on our way...unfortunately this experience was extremely costly as rates had since increased and we are nowhere close to the 3.5% rate we had thought we initially locked.
    I am extremely disappointed in NWFCU. The worst service I have ever experienced. This process exhibited either incompetence or deceitful practices in locking low rates but inflated closing costs. Our new mortgage doesn't have near the amount of closing costs as NWFCU. One thing is certain, it was the worst experience I had ever encountered and I'm extremely disappointed as their other services such as banking have always been so good for me. I will never endorse the mortgage department from NWFCU ever again..this experience cost us thousands of dollars.
