Virginia Tire & Auto of South Riding
My daughter took our Toyota Avalon to Virginia Tire and Auto (South Riding) for an inspection. They went over the car with a fine tooth comb to find a tiny hole in a steering boot. When I returned with the car to ask what failed they had a hard time finding the "issue". I took the car to another inspection site told them what was claimed and they could not find the "issue" and passed the car.

    Dulles South Chantilly Automotive
We were very pleased with our first time at Chantilly Automotive. We picked them based in part on favorable reviews from Angie's list, and are very glad we did. We had been told we needed brake work, and came to Chantilly Automotive for a second opinion. They offered a free estimate, and explained why some of the proposed work was not necessary (as we had suspected). They charged less than two other places we contacted, and even provided a loaner vehicle. The work was done promptly, well, and slightly under the already low estimate. The staff was professional, knowledgeable, helpful, and pleasant. We're very happy campers and will be returning as regular customers. Automotive repair that is competent, honest, and reasonably priced is hard to find, and based on our experience today, we believe we found it.

They treat me well. They do not try to gouge me for stuff. They do not try to upsell. They tell me what I need and the best way to get it done. Today, I was able to buy my own parts and they are just installing the parts because the parts they were going to get was more expensive from a different provider, but they did not have a problem doing it for the same labor cost that they would charge if they procured the parts.

they were up front about the parts for the old Saab my nephew drove, said they had to get out and get parts to use
the car was ready on time, they called me to come pick it up, and it was fixed as requested
no fuss, no muss, they were friendly (the counter guy was a little abrupt but really no big deal) - a very satisfactory experience

I ordered the tires from somewhere else, and they delivered them. It was for two tires. I have used them before and they are very busy. It did take a while. They are good and friendly. I have been with them for years. They need to use a better time frame, they said that it would take 30 minutes and it took over two hours. Their price is good and they gave me a discount for it taking so long. They got me in quick.

    Huntington Auto Body and Paint
After finding Huntington Auto Body on Angie's list, we contacted Mr. Lee about repairing front end damage to a 1999 Mazda 626.  Mr. Lee asked if we could email pictures of the damage - which we did - and within two days he confirmed he could do the work and that we should bring the car in.  The meeting with Mr. Lee was very professional and efficient.  Within about an hour, he assessed the damage and gave us a written quote and schedule for performing the work.  We agreed and left the car.  As we approached the completion date, Mr. Lee called and said his parts supplier had not delivered the bumper and hood yet - and the car would not be ready on time.  Another week went by with Mr. Lee staying in touch (he called us) and telling us when the parts would be in and the work completed.  We picked up the car about 10 days later then the original schedule - some delay due to the parts - some delay due to us being able to get to his shop.  We are very satisfied with the work.  The replaced parts look good and function well - no rattles.  And he was able to match the new hood paint also perfectly with the existing body paint.  Another plus - my wife appreciated the clean customer rest room. Nice touch!  Thanks Mr. Lee.  I hope we don't have another ooops! - but if we do - we'll come and see you.

    Main Street Tire & Auto
I have been going there for almost seven years. I mostly deal with the manager Tony. He is very honest and doesn’t try to oversell me on an expensive repair for an older car my teenager is driving. Their staff is the same employees each time.  They are very personable and know who you are when you talk to them on the phone. I would recommend to others.

Hogan & Sons Tire and Auto
WarrantyTire Repair was good; HOWEVER, the unnecessary repairs/maintenance they attempted to up sell sent up multiple red flags.  As a mechanic, I new right away this shop was attempting to sell me unnecessary maintenance/repairs.  The set up: a technician comes from the back to tell me that my tire is repairable...BUT he also noticed that my vehicle needed some repairs.  He stated that my serpentine belt had micro-fractures and that it should be replaced immediately.  Also, my radiator hoses were soft; which meant they should also be replaced (along with the clamps).  I was flabbergasted!  Of course the hoses are soft: because they are HOT.  And, how did they see the "micro-fractures"? What tool was that?  To understand why I was skeptical you may want some recent vehicle history.
One week prior I had this vehicle up on a private lift at a private garage. I had performed a full vehicle inspection (brakes, joints, suspension, etc.); performed an engine oil and transmission fluid change; then rotated and balanced the tires on professional equipment (how I discovered the screw in one tire).  The private garage even had a tire repair kit on hand.  Since I have a road hazard warranty, I decided to have the shop perform the warranty repair.  Before I walked in the door, I already knew the condition of the hoses, belts, fluid levels, brake pad wear, tread wear, and more (since I had recently serviced the vehicle myself).
I can understand them wanting to up sell on a warranty repair, but what they claimed, and the price they were asking ,was criminal.
Typical Shop Labor Rates for this area are $86 to $134 an hour.
Based on their labor rate calculated against standardized service repair times, their shop rate calculates to approximately $220 an hour and the prices on parts calculate at double the OEM list price.
This shop quoted approximately $617 for parts and labor that should have been between $394 and $519 maximum.
The point is not that they have an expensive labor and parts rate.
This shop recommended replacing parts already in good condition; not in need of repair.

    Wiygul Automotive Clinic-Herndon
These guys are great. I was referred to them by a couple of people in my office. I trust them to only do the work that is needed. Their pricing is reasonable and fair. They always give me a ride to and from the office which makes dropping of the car so easy.

    Dulles Auto Clinic
I'd been having trouble with my 2007 Cadillac CTS over the previous month, which got gradually worse. The car was sputtering, bucking and misfiring, and was worse in the heat or when I was in stop and go traffic. Up until the day before I took it to the Dulles Auto Clinic, the engine light didn't appear, but when it finally did, I went into a panic, thinking that somehow I ruined my engine. I made the decision to take the day off work so I could take care of it once and for all. I consulted Angie's List and saw high grades for the Dulles Auto Clinic, which is also privately owned and managed by the same man for 20 years, which to me indicates a very good track record.
I contacted them and spoke to Rachel who was very helpful and professional and she arranged for me to come right in. She said they could diagnose the problem, but if the parts had to be ordered, they may not be able to fix it till the next day. I got there at 11 a.m., and within a half hour, the owner, Wayne Judd, told me that two of my cylinder ignition coils were shot, so instead of the car running on 6 cylinders, it had been running on four. He said that he ordered the parts and that they'd be there within 20 minutes, and that I'd be out of there in an hour.
True to his word, my car was done in due time, and the problem that I was so anxious about was completely fixed. Not only that, I was able to go to work that afternoon. Though the parts were on the expensive side, they were high quality and delivered while I waited, so I can't complain. It was worth it all to have the problem diagnosed and fixed, which was nothing less to me than heroic.
As a single woman going into a service shop and waiting room, I think my standards are higher than a man's would be, and I form my opinion on a lot more than just mechanical service. The waiting room was clean and comfortable, and the restroom was downright luxurious! I observed a few of the mechanics and noticed that they were treated well by Wayne and the rest of the staff. They'd come into the waiting room occasionally to get a cold drink, and they were able to open the vending machine like a refrigerator and get what they wanted, which impressed me that an employer would provide this for them.
I would recommend this shop to anyone who wants quality workmanship in a respectful, clean atmosphere. I will use them again. Thanks Angie!
