    Sturdevant Construction
If you have ever worked on a hope project with a contractor--you can agree that building is less than perfect. And it is--but its the nature of the beast and you have to meet with with a realistic outlook along with understanding. The Isle of Wight inspectors were difficult to work with and they definitely delayed things. But Sturdevant was excellent at reviewing plans and trying to find and overcome delays before they actually slowed things up. The design process was top notch. They have excellent design ideas. And the process of building went well too. We are excited and love the final product. They did a terrific job.

    Nuttall Services, LLC
John Wesley Nuttall was recommended to me by Chris Gromlich, a local tree contractor I have used for the past 6 years. After several meetings, Mr Nuttall produced a simple contract and a reasonable price: 50% to begin and 50% on completion. Work started about one week later, and completed by the end of the third week. The product appearance was the same as the original driveway (as required by covenant) but the structure was improved by adding joints to reduce the size of each pour. He also added reinforcing steel bar at critical points. At the end of the job he spent a great deal of time to clean and restore the work area, including a power wash of the street. As an extra service to me, his men also power washed about 50 feet of my sidewalk, and a large brick stoop at my front door. His team consists of two to four knowledgeable, experienced men who work hard and clean up the work area every day.

We chose to wait and not perform Vinyl Siding replacement.

Standard Home Improvement LLC was very prompt in replying to our request and we will consider using them again if needed.

    Standard Home Improvement LLC
When we were looking for a contractor to do the above work we contacted several possible companies. Standard home improvement llc answered our call, was very prompt in meeting with U.S., answered all questions, and supplied us with a written estimate quickly. Richard, along with his daughter, Samantha, began work within 2 weeks of contract, and did not stop until the job was completed to our satisfaction. During the entire process, they offered several suggestions which we agreed with, without a change in the final price. Each day the job site was left immaculate. We could not be happier with the results and will use them again without hesitation.

The start date was right around the time that Bill gave us when he did the estimate. The crew arrived at the time they stated and got right to work. It was amazing that they could get all the work done in one day! The results are beautiful! We are planning to have them do our driveway in the next few months. I would highly recommend them!  A great team!

    Experience Concrete Design
Last summer we decided to expand our driveway.  I initially wrote an A review back in August after the work was completed.  I wanted to send an update to the review and say how well the concrete held up over the winter.  Justin was great to deal with.  The guys start around 6 am with is just awesome and they get in, get out and get the job done right.  If we ever need additional concrete for any reason, we will definitely use them again.  Wonderful job.

    Advanced Door Systems, Inc.
One of the springs on my garage door broke in the middle of the night.  The next day I checked Angie's List for businesses that repair garage doors and picked Advanced Door Systems based on reviews and location.  They were unable to get to me the day I called but were able to be at my home the next day first thing in the morning.
Based on what I told them on the phone, they quoted me $280 for two springs (it seemed prudent to replace both springs since they were the same age and obviously the same amount of wear). I also asked that they do an overall check of both of my doors (I have two single doors for a two car garage) although they said that they did that routinely whenever they made a service call.  While I thought that this was necessary, I was afraid that this would give them the opportunity to "find" other problems to fix including possibly telling me that I should replace the springs in the other door.  However, based on the reviews I read, I felt somewhat comfortable that this firm is reputable and would not try to talk me into accepting unneeded additional work.
I was very pleased by the whole experience.  First, it turned out that what I told them on the phone led them to believe I needed a different type of spring than what I actually had.  What I needed was cheaper and reduced the cost $80 from what they originally told me.  I would have never known had they just installed the correct springs and charged me for the more expensive ones.  On top of that, the technician (Dave) replaced three door rollers (plus he showed me how to replace them in case I ever need to), lubricated all rollers and pulleys on both doors, tightened several brackets, tightened the chain on both doors and checked the drive motor (which is pretty old) for wear.  There were a lot of opportunities for him to tell me additional work was necessary but he apparently gave me an honest assessment even though it didn't result in any additional business for him.  For all this there was no extra charge.  I paid $200 for the entire job which, as I said already, was $80 cheaper than what I was first quoted.
I absolutely recommend Advanced Door Systems if you need garage door work done.

    J&S Overhead Garage Door Service
They called as they stated during my initial contact with them on Saturday am and today is Sunday pm and we have a properly working garage door again and are very satisfied.  The gentlemen doing the work explained in detail to my husband the problem and what they would do to fix  said problem and went to work.  Within an hour the problem was fixed the bill paid and they were on their way to another call.

    Virginia Beach Hardscapes
After getting several estimates for replacing our existing  concrete aggregate driveway and sidewalks, we chose to go with Bill Watson and Virginia Beach Hardscapes.  Our choice was primarily based on the very favorable Angie's List ratings/review, and Bill's competitive bid. When Bill came out to do the estimate we told him that we wanted a "buff" aggregate driveway to replace the original which was badly cracked; we wanted the buff tone to coordinate with the buff mortar in our brick home and the original driveway was a buff-dyed concrete.  During subsequent e-mail correspondence concerning the "brown-tone" sealer that Bill said would be applied to the concrete when initially cured, we again emphasized that we wanted the driveway to have a buff finish.  When work commenced, everything went smoothly.  Bill's crew was punctual, they cleaned up the job site as they went along, and were very meticulous when installing the concrete forms to ensure all surfaces had the necessary slope for drainage. When the concrete was poured, though, it was the standard Portland cement grey/pea gravel mix. After the concrete retardant was washed off and the surface worked to expose the pea gravel, it became obvious that we were not going to have a buff-toned finish.  I asked the owner of the concrete supplier to take a look at the job and he said the contractor should have requested a buff dye, such as "Miami Buff," be added to the concrete mix, which he said is standard practice when a buff finish is desired.  The buff dyed mix also helps compensate for irregularities in the finish, i.e., blotches in the aggregate finish where more concrete is showing than pea gravel.
All in all Bill and his crew did a good job; the tool joint joint and expansion joints were neatly spaced and in the right places, and the sloping allows for rain runoff without any puddles forming. Bill even agreed to replace/redo one the sidewalks because the exposed aggregate didn't come out quite right. And, as I mentioned before, the crew kept the job site neat and cleaned up at the end of each day. Although we frequently receive compliments on our new driveway, it just isn't the color we had in mind, nor the one we had specified.
