Technician was responsive, and able to diagnose that the defrost cycle(can be set to 30, 60, 90 minutes) wasn't working due to burned out chip/board. Goodman heat pump part was readily available, and replaced later that day.

Well, it depends on how you look at it. In the end, all is good but I hadn't planned to take the route that I did to get there. First, I want to say that all of the employees that I dealt with, from the Vicki on the phone to the supervisor (sorry, can't remember the name) and the guys that came to work (Bill and David), were the best! Very helpful, friendly and professional. In these days of extremely poor customer service, it was a breath of fresh air. I really appreciate it. Now, on to my story. Worth the read to get a good impression of the quality of work. We started getting an odor similar to a dead mouse from our vent ducts. We live in a very rural area, so mice are not uncommon. So, I bought the coupon for duct cleaning. Air Duct Care contacted me and we set up a time for them to come and do the work. Part of the service was a duct inspection, so they started there. I truly believe that if the ductwork been in good shape, that the cleaning would have been accomplished and they would have gone on their way. I say this because I don't want you to think that this is a bait and switch. They started the inspection in our crawl space and promptly found that it was a much bigger job than any of us had anticipated. What they found was the entire return duct from my AC system laying on the ground half full of water. Investigation revealed that the condensate line from the air handler had clogged which caused the condensate to backup into the air handler. It overflowed the drip pan and went directly into the return trunk. The trunk got so full and so heavy that it just dropped out of the system. The smell was due to dead mice (or so we thought) because the air handler was taking a suction on the crawl space rather than the return trunk. The crawl space smelled awful. The AC system was blowing this throughout the house. They offered to repair the return trunk and clean the ducting, but recommended against it. Further inspection revealed multiple trunks with damage to the outer insulation from external forces, some which might be mice. They said that they could clean it, but if mice had gotten into the ducts that they may not be able to clean it 100% and would not be able to keep the mice from returning to the ducts. I agreed and determined that we needed to replace the entire duct system in the crawl space. The supervisor described their materials to me and the process that they would use to replace the ductwork and I asked him to provide me an estimate. He did tell me that the insulation that they used was expensive, but it would be worth it in the long run. Again, this was NOT a bait and switch. This was truly the right thing to do. The existing ductwork had been installed following Isabel and was done quickly with low quality materials because it was done in a hurry with few available resources. The wrote up an estimate and sent it to me via email. Obviously, at first glance, the price was much higher than I had expected. But again, I had expected to pay the $165 to get the ductwork cleaned and inspected, not to get the entire duct system replaced. But looking at the job and the materials, the price was very reasonable. They deducted the cost of the coupon that I purchased as well as applying another Angie's List discount to the bottom line. If they had just come and replaced the ductwork, this would be the end of the review, but I really have to share what happened next. The first day of the job was ripout of the existing ductwork. This involved pumping out the water that had accumulated in the return duct. The return duct had been leaking, so there was water in the crawlspace (it is vinyl encapsulated, so it was obvious). So, ripout day went well. Crawlspace smelled awful, but they didn't complain. The next day, they returned only to find more liquid in the crawl even though I had corrected the condensate line issue and they had pumped it out the day before. They also mentioned that it seemed like there was liquid under the vinyl, which was not expected. This is why I'm continuing the review. They could have left it at that, but they didn't. They noticed that the main sewer line from the house out of the crawl was directly under the crawlspace access (covered in vinyl) but as it went toward the house, it was exposed from the vinyl and was PVC. But they said that it seemed that the liquid under the vinyl seemed to be more near the pipe under the vinyl. I said that if they wanted to they could cut the vinyl and see if they could tell where the source was. They could have just said (not my job) and carried on with the duct replacement, but they didn't. They cut back the vinyl to find a cast iron pipe connected to the PVC that had a huge crack in it. That is where the liquid was coming from and that is why the crawl smelled so bad! If they had just done their job and not investigated for me, we would not have located that problem. I really appreciate them going the extra mile! They even attempted to seal the crack with the waterproof tape in their kit while we waited on a plumber. I called a plumber, and he came to evaluate. He removed the tape to inspect it, determined that the pipe had to be replaced and we scheduled the work for the next day. The duct team resealed the pipe and the vinyl the best they could, pumped out the crawl and continued their job. The plumber came the next day and they just worked around him even though he had to work in the crawl access. Not a complaint the entire time. Bill and David are awesome workmen that Air Duct Care is very lucky to have. I really appreciate everything that they did for me that was over and above. The ductwork was completed, all is very sturdy and professionally done. But that was expected. I tell you, customer service like that is extremely rare these days. A contractor that does what he says he will do, and goes the extra mile even though he doesn't have to. Hopefully, I won't have to call them for more than an annual cleaning, but if I ever need a job like this done again, I know who I am calling!

The representative was awesome. He was informative, precise, and careful. There were some difficulties with installation but they stuck through the job until it was completed. They did have to come back for a couple of things but they cheerfully took care of it.

They were good to work with. We have used them in the past for heating and air conditioning, they replaced the thermostat. We were pleased for both services. I like that they are prompt in arriving. It was a good experience and I would recommend them to others.

Good communication from owner on appointment schedule and explanation of work to be performed. Professional installation with no mess. Lead workman explained DIY damper adjustments and monthly bleach drain clean-out. The services of this company are at a higher cost, but the equipment and service are higher quality.

Wonderful! Called in the morning, they came around lunch time and worked in my garage. I didn't need to be home and they didn't need to come inside. Called me after they identified the problem ($200 part) and I asked them to go ahead and fix it. I came home and my house was warm!!
I have had wonderful service from Rob every time that I have needed him and he has always been VERY fair on his price, and NEVER tried to upsell me or sell me something I didn't need. He has even refused to charge me for visits where the fix was small.
    Wonderful guy!

My husband called and asked about the gas estimate. It looked like Mr. Engle just copied the old paperwork, and added $1500.00 to run a 10 foot gas line. When questioned why the line was so expensive he replied that the cost is what it is, I've had a bad day, and hung up on him.

Jeremy came within a couple days of the initial call (exactly on time) and gave a very professional estimate. He listened to what we needed/wanted, took measurements, calculated the size needed and emailed me a proposal. In my research I discovered each manufacturer has very similar systems for similar prices. The DIFFERENCE is in the installation. Salesmen can tout a certain SEER rating or warranty but the way component x, component y, and component z are engineered and connected makes ALL the difference. Maximum Air was not the very cheapest but I am convinced they are dedicated to the best installation. I talked to other highly recommended installers (also from Angie's List)  who didn't take the time to explain to me all the options. Maximum Air proposed a better option to run the electrical and coolant lines for the mini-split through the wall and under house crawl space and also kept all the attic to outdoor coolant lines in the wall versus outside the house. When I asked about these options later with the other guys they said, "Well, we don't like to have to explain to people when the installation won't work that way so we just don't tell them up front we could do that"....yeah right! I'm a mechanical/aerospace engineer by education, I can "handle" the truth.
The variable speed air handler for the upstairs unit was backorderd so they temporarily repaired the old unit to give us some A/C in the meantime. NO extra charge! The entire crew of Max, Jeremy, Vlad, and Kip showed up on time and had the downstairs unit done in a day. The original mini-split they quoted was also backorderd (for multiple weeks) so they gave us an upgraded 21 SEER unit from Mitsubishi for the same price. Maximum Air does not change the price, once quoted they stick to it even if it costs them money   :-) They also installed this unit in one day, the next day, even though it was not an easy install. That night the indoor coils froze up and it quit cooling. Max came back the next day and discovered the unit was overcharged and the drain hose was kinked. He fixed it on the spot. The upstairs air handler came in the next week and once again, the whole crew showed up at 0800 on the agreed day and installed that unit in one day.  They removed all the old stuff and NEVER made a mess.
Being the engineer I had many questions. Jeremy came out one more time and went through all the paerpwork and manuals and showed me how to do the "annual maintenance" and program all the different functions. I'm betting many HVAC companies would try to squeeze a service call out of people for that - NOT these guys!  He offered to file the guarantee paperwork and send it to us. I wanted to use a credit card for payment (to get the frequent flyer miles) and they waived the fee so I only paid the original quoted price. I wanted to keep the old programmable thermostats for another application, and when one of those got tossed by mistake, Jeremy brought me a new one - again no charge! In addition, while under the house, they discovered a plumbing leak I would never have found myself. THANKS!
This is probably the BEST experience I have ever had with a contractor. I WILL DEFINITELY recommend Maximum Air to anybody and will call them first for any future needs. GREAT JOB guys!

We called Maximum Air largely as a result of Angie's list glowing recommendations & was thoroughly impressed by the firm representative (Jeremy) who came out to provide an estimate.  It was obvious from the start that Jeremy's approach was to inspect the current system problems and provide a technically sound & well reasoned solution to my wife & me. The price offered was very competitive (not lowest) and the bid offered the best value to us because he listened to our complaints & provided a total solution. It went beyond just trying to sell a replacement unit but rather into a total systems approach for our home which included inspecting and making modifications to the existing supply ducts & air returns where needed.

We felt comfortable with the price & contracted with Maximum Air for the furnace replacement. Within a few days the Maximum Air team started work. To a man, they were technically competent, well trained in the sensitivities of working in some one's home, and well grounded in work safety.  They worked thru some brutal outside elements (rain & snow) to install the new unit and restore heat to my home. Truly a team effort where every one pitched in to complete a high-quality job on-time as promised.

I am impressed with this firm & would highly recommend them to others.

Wonderful! Came out originally after I had received an estimate from another company (not happy with them or their estimate at all). The other company had attempted to fix my heating unit and it was working the first time he came. He gave me an estimate for fixing/replacing my ductwork. The price was the same as the other company, however for the same price he was going to run the new ductwork through the attic (so I wouldn't have this problem again in another flood) including cutting new holes and fixing the old holes! I thought this was a much better deal! He also said that the ductwork could be fixed and didn't really need to be replaced now. At the time I had 3 ducts laying on the ground because the strapping holding them to the floor joists had broken and 2 had actually come loose from the vents. (the previous company had lied to me and told me nothing was on the ground and that the problem was from kinks in the line.) 1 week later the heater went out again (guess the first guy didn't do such a good job fixing it) so I called him. He came out right away and said it could be one of a couple of things. Since we had just bought the house he showedd me how to clean a filter that is in the attic (I thought that was very nice) and tried the cheapest of the 2 fixes. It worked for a month and then it quit again. This time he came out on a Saturday, within a couple of hours of me calling and fixed it for good. No charge for this trip. All in all we only paid about $170 for 3 trips to our house, he is wonderful.
