    They were a highly rated company that I got through Angie's List. II contacted them at their suggustion and the woman that did was extremely rude. I wanted to speak with someone that actually performed the services because I was not getting the answers I needed. She would not let me speak with anyone else and was very abrupt and rude. It all started out with the estimate that was supposed to be free and then she gave me a price of $350.00 for them to come out. I was very unsettled with the experience and do not understand why such a highly rated company would have such a rude person contact me back.

    Update April 2014:
    The sidewalk has serious issues. It's crumbling in places, there's a weird sheen that looks like too much sealer was put on in places or maybe not enough in other places and there's an area that we think was never sealed. There is a piece of metal sticking out of the side of the sidewalk that needs attention before someone gets hurt.

    The initial email, with pictures of everything, to Mr Damon Matthews was promptly answered with a nice email saying he would be over very soon to to check on everything we outlined in our email.....and then nothing. We thought maybe he just forgot ,so after a while we forwarded the original email as a reminder, just in case it was an honest mistake; no answer. I think a couple of weeks is ample time to respond to an email but we didn't get anything. Finally, a third email went unanswered.

    Okay, Mr Matthews, we get it. You aren't coming to look at our sidewalk, you don't care that our sidewalk is crumbling and isnt sealed properly. I'm sure it makes little difference to you, but should you decide to sign on to Angie's List to say how unreasonable we were like you did to someone else, I will be glad to provide our unanswered emails and pictures of your workmanship.

    Yard Solutions arrived and sketched out the sidewalk that we had planned, and confirmed the accuracy of the design with my wife and I. Mr. Matthews was patient, observant, and quick to explain our options to us. We parted ways with a thorough understanding of the work to be done and how much it would cost.
    Once work began, progress moved quickly with Mr. Matthews and his crew setting the forms for our concrete, preparing the walkway areas, and refining the design. With the concrete truck on location, the Yard Solutions crew worked with amazing speed and attention to detail. As the cement began curing, we saw our driveway instantly transformed into an orderly border between our lawn and the gravel of the driveway. We were so impressed with the outstanding service that Yard Solutions provided that we began planning an additional project to help aid in erosion control of our yard and driveway.
    After a flurry of ideas and solutions exchanged through email. Damon and Pancho came back to add a 16" curb around our car turn around, along the driveway, and around a parking spot for two vehicles. Once again the work went quickly and captured EXACTLY what we had envisioned for our driveway. We had a family gathering shortly after Yard Solutions completed our projects; everyone was very complimentary of the quality and appearance of our improved driveway and sidewalks.
    Yard Solutions may be a small company, but they have a great work ethic and provide honest and accurate work with competitive pricing. If you are thinking about outside building projects, you should strongly consider Yard Solutions and Damon Matthews. You will be satisfied with the end project and with the top quality service that Yard Solutions provides. Working with Damon and crew was more like making new friends; this is an exceptional company!!!!

    1. Pre-Sales: This phase of the project was handled by the Showcase Manager who works for Owens Corning in Virginia. This manager responded to our request for more information on the system, and we scheduled a visit from him to discuss the system and to a**** our basement for possibilities. The Showcase Manager is knowledgeable of the product and presented it well. He analyzed our basement and presented us with a drawing of what he would recommend based on the basement space we wanted to have finished. He told us that the project would be done in two weeks or less, and it was. He gave us an estimate of what it would take and an estimated cost. He negotiated a discounted price with us if we would host an open house in the spring to showcase the new basement. He also offered a flooring option, and we selected a particular pattern that we wanted. Finally, we agreed to obtain a "temporary" loan to fund the project, less a 10% downpayment. Even with the open house discount, this is a fairly pricey system. Time will tell if it is a good investment or not. We believe that it will be. The Pre-Sales phase went well. The Showcase Manager made several visits to exchange forms and paperwork, and everything was done as scheduled. However, the Showcase Manager did not inform us that when the work was done, we would have to paint the doors (they were primed only) or the supporting doors/windows wood trim. Further, we had to reinstall the blinds ourselves.
    2. Pre-Installation: A Project Manager ("PM") called us to schedule a pre-installation visit/survey after our financials were approved. The day the visit was scheduled for, the PM did not show up. We called him and received a voice mail. He later called to apologize, said he had been sick, and re-scheduled the visit. He showed up on time for the re-scheduled visit. This person does not work for Owens Corning but for their contractor (Remodel USA, Inc.). He referred to the sketch drawn by the Showcase Manager and verified the information with us. He then contacted the Installation Team, based out of Harrisonburg, VA, to perform the work. We were told that although he is the PM, the installation team leader would be our primary interface until the installation was completed. The PM's total involvement, from what we could discern, was minimal although he undoubtedly worked "behind the scenes" with the installation team leader and the Contractor's home office in MD. The only major problem that arose was with material availability. The floor we wanted was not available and would not be for at least twelve weeks. We were not notified of that by the PM until the installation was more than 80% complete. The Remodel USA owner called us to apologize and asked if we would accept an alternate color/style. We agreed and the flooring materials were brought down to Virginia in time to meer the two-week completion cycle. We were expecting the PM to stop by to inspect the final installation work, but that did not occur. From our past experience with construction projects, the PM usually stops by periodically to see how things are going. Not this PM. He left that to the team leader. As with the Showcase Manager, the PM did not tell us that we would have to do any painting or re-mounting of blinds.
    3. Installation Team Leader and team: The leader and team did an overall excellent job with the installation and clean-up. We were left with floor and ceiling tiles as spares along with moulding materials from the walls. In all, the job was completed on time and professionally. A minor problem came up in that a team member quit the job mid-stream, so the team was reduced to two members who worked diligently to meet the schedule. A second minor problem was that the installers carelessly lost a small piece of our basement security detection system in addition to losing the mounting screws for the blinds that had to be removed. That caused us to have to pay for a security system visit to replace the lost item. The Installation Team Leader fixed a problem with our entry door, so we believe that our costs were off-set, and we appreciate what he did. It was the Installation Team Leader who completed the job and told us of what we would need to do in terms of painting doors and trim and re-installing the blinds (we had to purchase mounting screws at minimal cost to replace the ones the installation team lost).
    4. Overall Assessment:
    • - We really like what we have. Good work, nice materials, and an excellent look to make a room that should last us for many years to come and enhance the value of our lovely home. Excellent installation.
    • - Communications with Remodel USA and Owens Corning representatives and client could be improved. Too many hand-offs, in our opinion. That the owner of the company had to get involved to solve the problem with flooring availability is clear evidence of that. Appreciate the owner and PM "stepping up to the plate" to resolve the problem, but suppose they did not have a suitable second floor choice? Where would that have left us? Should have been up front with any work we would have to do, such as painting the doors and wood trim around the doors and windows. Took multiple coats of quality latex paints to bring the various finishes up to the level of the Owens Corning system installed products.
    • - We were provided with a flat-screen TV to make up for issues we had several years ago trying to get Owens Corning representatives to respond to our request to become an open house. Again, communications issues. Appreciate Owens Corning and Remodel USA for providing us with a nice TV to make up for the difficulties we had three years ago.
    • - We look forward to hosting an open house sometime this spring.
