    Arthur and his team were very responsive to phone calls/messages before the work started, and also for any follow-up activity that was required. They were on-time each day. If they were going to be late or delayed, Arthur would call to keep me informed. Excellent follow-up even after project was complete. The project was completed on-time and within budget.

    The crew that was onsite during the renovation was great as well. They always kept the site clean and was respectful when asked questions about the process. They were also very knowledgeable about construction and codes to make the house very sound. The house is around eighty years old and with the work they have done I can see it being around another eighty or more. The office staff was always willing to help with any questions or concerns we had and would promptly respond if they could not answer right then. Working with Dollman Construction was one of the best choices we made. People do not even recognize the house now that it is complete they did such a great job.

    Rey came the next day after receiving my call for a quote. He explained his process and we quickly agreed on a price that was very competitive. He arrived Thursday the next week as planned, on time, with one assistant. He immediately began work by removing the quarter round, sanded all floors, and applied the first coat. He came on Friday for the second, and Saturday for the third. I requested a 4th coat late on Saturday, we negotiated an agreeable price and he finished on Sunday. The house was extremely clean after so much sawdust so his cleanup efforts were fantastic. He listened to everything I wanted and took great care to ensure my home was clean and protected, and that I was more than satisfied with the results. He is an honest, hard-working, and professional young man. We have rental property and he will definitely be earning additional work from us. I have hired many contractors, and Rey is one of only three in the last 20 years that did exactly what he said, was genuinely concerned about how we felt about the quality and price, and was a pleasure to deal with. Will hire again and refer to everyone we know who needs new or refinished floors. I will be asking him to return to rip out new floors that were installed in a bedroom that cracked and split within a year of install.

    We had heard of Rey's work from friends who loved the work he did for them. We contacted him and he came by soon after and showed us options of what we could do. We were having flooring replaced in our great room and hallway. We ended up going with white oak flooring that we had finished with 3 coats of poly. We knew it would be a bit messier than pre-engineered but also knew for quality it is hard to beat and had it before in another house. I have to say it exceeded our expectations. It is so beautiful and rich looking. It was a bit messy and the poly smell can be strong, however, we were fortunate to be able to remove ourselves to another part of the house. And I would do it all over again for the beauty and durability! It took about 6 days from start to finish. We also had stairs, that had always had carpet on them, replaced with oak treading and risers and also finished with 3 coats of poly. Hard to believe they are in the same house! Simply beautiful! We also had carpet and padding replaced in a downstairs bedroom. We had prefinished engineered hardwood put in there and the cost was the same we had received from various carpet companies for installation and removal of old carpet, new carpet costs and padding. So the wood floor was a no brainer especially with a young adult using the space. It's beautiful, she loves it and we do too! Again, quality work. I want to also add that we thought we had engineered hardwood installed 15 years ago by a reputable flooring company in Salem Va. The last couple of years we had noticed the floors in the hall coming apart and could tell it was not wood but laminate. We paid more for those floors at that time than what it cost us to replace with actual, sanded wood floors, stairs totally replaced from carpet to wood, and the bedroom downstairs replaced with engineered wood. Rey and his crew did such a good job of removing the old carpet and padding and all of the old flooring, leaving nothing behind. Once installation of the new was done, we couldn't even tell that any sanding of the floors had been done because their cleanup was so thorough. Lastly, I feel we received great value for what we spent. We had around 600 square feet replaced upstairs, 200 replaced downstairs and stairs totally redone. We are so pleased with the results and love our new floors!!

    This is an update to the review below--I just wanted to add that Dolman Construction continues to stand by their work even after the check is long cashed.  Since I wrote this review and the work was completed, we discovered a few problems.  Nothing major, but there were a few things that we felt need to be corrected.  Jimmy was very responsive to our requests.  If he got tired of hearing from us, you couldn't tell it by his demeanor.  All issues were addressed and taken care of to our satisfaction with out argument or friction.  I was very impressed by that, and when we get ready to do further work on this house, we will absolutely be calling Dollman Construction to do the work.

    We bought a house in October that needed a substantial amount of work done before we could move it.  I found Dollman construction on Angie's List and contacted Jimmy Dollman based on the reviews I read here.  Jimmy Dollman met with us at the house a few days later.  We described what we wanted to do, and he carefully explained that would cost far more than we had imagined.  A lot more.
    He then patiently listened to our extensive wish list, made a lot of measurements, and talked with us about various possibilities.  Instead of expanding the current kitchen (which was on a back porch that had been enclosed and was quite small, awkward, and out of date) outside of the "footprint" of the house, which costs a lot more, he suggested we put the kitchen in an adjoining room, and open the wall between the two rooms.  This gave us the possibility of a larger kitchen, a walk-in pantry, a place for a small kitchen table, and a good sized play area for our son.  Brilliant!  We loved this idea in theory and the result has been even better than I imagined. 
    We knew that the whole roof on the house needed to be replaced.  The older part of the house had ancient metal shingles that had mostly lost their paint.  The garage was attached to the house and had what I think of as a "shed" roof--no peak, just a flat roof that sloped away from the house.  These two features combined made the house look like, well, kind of like a shack.  Neither roof was very sound, either, because they both started leaking soon after we closed (of course).  Dollman construction replaced the whole roof with shingles, fixed all the rotten wood they found, and replaced all the gutters.  They also completely rebuilt the roof over the garage, so it has a peak and ties in to the roof of main part of the house.  It's amazing how much better the house looks with the new shingles and roof line.  I know they did a good job on the roof, the gutters, and fixed all the leaks, because after the last heavy
    snow, the water was gushing out of the downspouts like a waterfall, but everything inside was dry. 
    Jimmy also created a very beautiful design for the kitchen.  However, with the kitchen, the project was way outside what we felt we could spend.  So, Jimmy came up with a way to put off the purchase of new, custom cabinets and counter tops by installing used cabinets and counters.  This really saved us, because it brought the cost of the whole project into a range we could deal with, but still gave me a very functional kitchen (and a new roof) until we can sell the old house.  Better yet, all the electrical and plumbing is in the right place for the original design.  Frankly, I'm amazed at what Jimmy's crew was able to do with the used cabinets and counter tops.  It's actually very darned close to the layout in the design.  I'm really looking forward to seeing what they can do with the new cabinets and counter tops, but I'm very happy with the intermediate results. 
    What I appreciate most about Jimmy is his willingness to work with us and our budget.  We had a long list of things we needed and wanted to do.  He worked with us extensively to break the work into several phases, and price those phases, so we could decided what was most important and what we could wait on.  This was very important to us, and really proved we were working with the right person.  I know this was probably a lot of extra work for him, but he did it with patience and good will.  He explained what work needed to be done, how the work would go, and what we could expect, very carefully (sometimes more than once), until we felt we understood well enough to make the right choices. 
    We wanted to do some of the work ourselves, to save money (paint and some trim).  When we discussed that with Jimmy, he was receptive to it, helped us get some of the materials, and kept us informed about the time frame for getting our part of the work
    done. 
    Dollman Construction started working on our house right after Christmas 2013.  They are just about done now, in the later part of April 2014.  Considering the amount of work to be done, and the truly rotten weather we've had this winter, I think they've worked very quickly.  
    All of the Dollman people that have come to work on the house have done an excellent job, cleaned up well, been careful with our property, and been generally pleasant to meet.  The plasterers (subcontractors) did leave a bit of a mess behind.  I saw it one evening, but didn't have a chance to do anything about it.  I went over a couple of days later, and Jimmy's crew had cleaned everything up.  They shoveled snow, too, when we couldn't get out to do it.  On the few occasions there have been problems (and it seems there just will be with a project this big), they have been addressed quickly and completely.      
    Jimmy is very responsive to his clients, returning phone calls, emails, and calling to update us on the project and what's coming next.  One evening, we thought we smelled gas at the house.  It was a faint, and we opened a window, planning to go back the next day and see if we could still smell it.  I emailed Jimmy to let him know, and Jimmy went over to the house at 9 p.m. on a Sunday evening to check it out.  Everything was okay, and I really appreciated his concern and dedication.
    We were very anxious about the renovation process and spending what is quite a lot of money for us.  We probably drove Jimmy more than a little crazy because of that, but he was always polite, professional, and personable with us.  We quickly came to trust him and the people that work with him.  We are looking forward to working with him again, once we've sold the old house, and are ready to finish the kitchen in the new one. 
    I'd love to have Dollman Construction remodel our bathrooms somewhere down the road.  They will be my first choice every time.

    Our experience with Fashion Floors had some ups and downs.  We had a good experience working with the saleswoman, Kelly, who was very professional and responsive to our concerns.  Her husband Rick, came out to measure, which was fine and we were happy with the estimate.  My husband and I did the demo and cleaning before install, at which point we found some plywood with old water damage (some with mold) that we felt needed to be replaced, in total 2 sheets of plywood.  We contacted Fashion Floors to tell them that we needed a couple sheets replaced, they agreed to do it and quoted us $70 for the additional work.  When the workers got there, they told us that they hadn't brought enough wood, which was weird to me, considering we had told them specifically what we needed.  They told me that they would just replace the sections of the sheets with damage, which we agreed to.  They replaced most of the wood, but then told us some areas were not accessible enough to replace without quite a bit more work and that they would just seal them with Kilz, which they said they did all the time.  We reluctantly agreed to this, but after they left, realized that they had used a product that was specifically not supposed to be used for floors and specifically not supposed to be used in moist and/or mold-prone areas.  We immediately contacted the store to get them to replace the wood with the Kilz painted on it, and spent 3 or 4 frustrating weeks arguing with the the manager, Rick.  We ended up not being charged the money for replacing the wood, but we felt that Rick's dealings with his unhappy customers was unprofessional and rude and we are not completely happy with the work done.  We decided to just let it go because the new carpet is only a temporary solution for us, but it was such a frustrating experience that I am certain we will go elsewhere when we redo our flooring again.

    Gary did a perfect job.  Everything about his service speaks of care and professionalism.  He  wants it right, and he does it right.  He follows through with specific instructions about when you can walk on the floor, move furniture back, put rugs back in place, etc.   He  also advises how to clean your floor and keep it in top condition.  From  start to finish, we honestly cannot imagine anyone doing a more thorough and conscientious job than he did.

    The floors in my rental property were in need of repair.  I contacted 3 different floor refinishers.  One did not show up for the appointment, the other was about the same pricing as Mr. Jeffreys. He did not act like he was in a hurry to get started.  And talking with Mr. Jeffrey, I expressed my concern of a speedy job completion and he assured me that he could start  on Monday of the following week and it would take six to seven days to complete. My Jeffrey came by on Friday and dropped off materials for the job.  He started sanding floors on Monday and stayed well after 8 in the evening. He worked long hours each day and finished the job on Friday ahead of schedule. The floors look great!

    Our contractor recommended Blue Ridge floors since they had done many new construction installs for him in the past. We met with them at a scheduled appointment at our convenience and looked at all of our flooring options for every room. The co-owner, Mauricia Smith took extra time and care to make sure we were happy with all our choices. She made a long stressful process easy and fun. Her husband, Steve Smith was also very easy to work with. He continuously kept us informed about the install and he answered all of our questions throughout the process.
