We were calling local companies to set up meetings to discuss a possible addition to our home. My wife called and spoke with Linda Gutierrez (receptionist) a few weeks ago to set up an appointment. Linda said we would hear back that evening. That night came and went.. and a week later... still no call. My wife called back and spoke with Linda again about setting up an appointment and explained that she never got a call. Linda immediately transfered her to Darrell Bowie. Darrell was clearly annoyed, and seems to reluctantly agree to a meeting the following Wednesday. My wife asked if there was a problem, and Darrel said "Quite frankly you're not in our service area." My wife, confused because she didn't exspressly say where we lived, confirmed that our nieghboorhood was listed as being included on Angies List. Darrel then stated that the neighborhood we live in is big and would be "tricky to navigate" and asked how to get to our house. My wife said, "if you have a GPS, it should take you right to us." Darrel then snarling replied "well... I've used GPS before in that neighborhood and still got lost." We were confused as to how he was familiar with the neighborhood and has been before, but that it was out of his service area. Needless to say, we thought he may have had an off day and decided to keep the Wednesday appointment. The day before the appointment, Darrell calls back to push back the appointment by another day, my wife appologized and said that wouldnt work due to existing plans. Darrel then loudly said "Dang it! Well, next week then?" My wife then expressed her concerns about being called last minute to reschedule and how the initial interaction wasn't as professional as expected. Darrel basically said it is what it is. My wife and I then both said we're not going to even bother with a company that won't be professional when dealing with a customer. I was completely suprised by the complete lack of professionalism from this company... particularly from Darrel. We will NEVER recommend working with Spratt Improvements.. so long as Darrel is there. It's unfortunate because the online pictures were nice. Had Darrel been kind to my wife or just explained things further rather than being nasty and snarky, I'm sure they would have been xontenders, but I'll never have anyone in my home that is even half as disrespectful than Darrel is.

All Star Remodeling & Handyman Service
This was an exceptional experience. Within the last several weeks I hired a competitor handyman company, and was not nearly as pleased with that service experience. I obtained the name of All Star Remodeling & Handyman Service through Angie's List, and called them on Friday, 11/02/2012. Eddie Hepner came to my home that same evening to provide an estimate (very reasonable), and after I accepted the estimate he was able to complete all work on Saturday, 11/03/2012. There was some urgency to my request, as I have company coming to visit after Thanksgiving. Cindy Hepner was prompt in returning my initial phone inquiry, and Eddie was prompt in coming to my home both for the estimate, and work completion. This experience was night and day relative to the last handyman I hired, and I will most certainly hire the Hepners again for future work. I cannot speak well enough of this company, and they were quite a breath of fresh air. Great job, great experience, and I will recommend you to neighbors and friends in the future!  Thank you so much.

Mr. Handyman of the Fredericksburg Region
Mr. Handyman of Fredericksburg was prompt in responding to my online service inquiry and scheduling the service date, but the experience only deteriorated from here. On the service date, I had been promised the worker's arrival at 8am, and was told he would stay as long as needed to complete all items on my list. One day prior to the scheduled date, I received a call and was told the worker would be delayed on arrival because he had to do an estimate first thing that morning. OK, I am alright with this. Then, on the morning of service, what should have been a 9:30am arrival turned into a 10:45am arrival. Wow, that put bad taste in my mouth. Already I knew worker would not get all things completed that I wanted done. Mr. Handyman said they could come back first thing the next day to finish work, but that didn't work with my schedule, as I had to leave home for work next day. Apparently Mr. Handyman doesn't consider the customer's schedule in their thought process.
Overall I think worker who came to my home did good work, but I think their labor rates are atrocious. I paid less per hour for a computer repair person than a handyman, and another Mr. Handyman office explained to me that labor rates so high b/c workers are multi-skilled and can (for example) do plumbing, electrical, carpentry, etc as needed. I only needed carpentry and general handyman services, so not sure why I am paying for premium (other) skillsets I don't need. I was also put off when Mr. Handyman scheduler gave me hard time on phone that I am 'outside' their service area, and they were unfamiliar with my location. If I had been asked, I would have gladly provided directions to my home, and my apologies if I live out in the sticks. Even homeowners in rural areas need service, so please make it more clear on your website if you prefer not to have me as a customer in the future.
    .
Finally, I was told that for my inconvenience, I would receive $25 off hourly rate for service in exceed of 2 hours. The worker was at my home 6.75 hours, and I did not receive $25 off each hour past 2 hours. I received 1 credit of $25, which is not what was told to me on phone. Wow, talk about misleading.
I cannot, and will not in good conscience recommend this company to anyone, and not sure I will ever use you again. Living in the 'sticks', I am limited on which companies will come to my home, which I think VERY unfortunate as even rural customers need service providers at their home occasionally, particularly when homeowner/customer not physically able to do all things, or versed in how to do so. But, since moving to VA I have run into many service providers that like to cherry pick their customers, so perhaps Mr. Handyman is one such provider. Shame, your busines acumen does your company a real dissservice.

    Resident Handyman
I was not there when the job was done.  I came home from work anxious to check on the end result.  Bob did a nice job hanging the door and took the old door and hardware with him.  I appreciate that.  The shower fixtures looked good.  They were new.  However, the washer and dryer are in the bathroom and there was a large scratch on top of the washing machine.  I assume that's where he placed his tool box.  Yesterday I got a call from our new tenants.  After taking his first shower my tenant  told me that water was leaking into the living room which backs up to the bathroom.  Apparently Bob did not assemble the hardware properly after replacing the new fixtures.  Thankfully our new tenant is a plumber and he was able to solder the pipes and repair this fiasco himself.  Hallelujah!
In the kitchen where Bob installed a new faucet there were scratches in the stainless steel sink.  There were also shards of tiny metal pieces all over the counter top.  Bc this is a rental house I could overlook these sloppy repairs.  But when I got a call about the plumbing I had to write a review.  On top of all that, I paid for this service. That's why I rated the price an "F."
