Eye Care reviews in Ruther Glen

    Access Eye Centers
    My grandson was evaluated by Dr. Angela Santinga, and the offices were called "ACCESS EYE CENTERS". Initially we received prompt and courteous service. Dr. Santinga was thorough, friendly and professional. She found my grandson had a congenital eye condition and stated his eyesight was not seriously impaired, but could benefit from the use of eyeglasses. She walked us to the patient waiting area, instructed us to be seated till called by a glasses sales clerk. Dr. Santinga then gave our prescription to the sales clerk, rather than directly to me. This was unsettling as most optometrists I have visited hand me the prescription, and suggest I purchase eyeglasses from their glasses sales affiliate. I debated raising this as an issue, but decided to trust my host OD's pressure to purchase onsite.
    Once called to the salesperson's desk, we found a pair we liked. The clerk announced the frames were a poor fit and offered to assist my grandson in finding a good fit from the display. A pair was found and we proceeded to the purchase details. She asked me if I wished to order "anti reflective" lenses, and I said no, I did not, assuming there would be an additional cost. She handed me the work order to sign and announced the fee was $157.00. I inquired as to whether our insurance would cover part of this. The clerk then stated the cost of the glasses were actually $439 (I was not given a detailed account of the fees at this time.) She said that my cash balance of $157 was after an insurance payment. After paying the $157 I began to wonder if the clerk had selected a higher cost designer frames while finding the "right fit" for my grandson, as the frames she selected were remarkably different from those we originally selected.
    I picked up the glasses about 10 days later. I noted they were wrapped in a paper which I unwrapped and read. It was then I discovered she had ordered the anti reflective lenses despite my objection. The extra cost of the anti reflective was $125, of which $100 was charged to me. When I told the clerk I had not ordered the anti reflective, she shrugged and nodded to a sign on her desk which (in bold type) declared there would be no changes or refunds once orders were placed. I do not suggest Access Eye Care Centers have unethical policies, but only point out the appearance of such policy. Let prospective patients beware, and insist on having the option of purchasing prescription eyeglasses at a supplier of their choice;
