Contractor was to begin work on Dec 26th, but he didn't show up.  Work started 2 days later.  The old stairs and landing were demolished but left in a pile in the yard.  (He was contracted to haul away old debris)  He finally set the posts for the new landing and built the landing.  It turned out to be 30 degrees off square from the main deck and is not level.  Then he built the stringers and hung them incorrectly, insufficiently and unsafely.  There are no proper braces.  The contractor also ran out of materials and was trying to get us to go get more at our expense.  He quoted a certain amount and because he built the landing wrong, he ran out of supplies.  We will have to buy at least $400 more in supplies
The contractor throughout the project continued to not show up and not communicate. When he did show up it was typcially after 12pm (usually around 1pm) and then he would stop work by 4pm.  He worked painfully slow.  In fact, in one 6 hour day, he put up only 3- 4x4 posts and bolted them in.  THAT  WAS ALL HE ACCOMPLISHED IN 6 hours. No joking!  7 weeks into the job, he claimed to have had a mild heart attack and then stopped communicating with us.  It has now been 9 weeks and the job is still incomplete.  There are no handrails, posts, braces etc  The owner, Floyd Gray, has not returned any phone calls, emails or texts.  I've contacted his son, who was the one we intiatially worked with and he said he thought his brother was going to come finish the job but when I tried calling him again, he stopped answering calls and emails as well.
Since we contracted for both jobs, we paid a $2000.00 deposit on the jobs.  We paid for all materials ourselves for the deck so all that would be owed would be labor.  Floyd refuses to return our calls or communicate with us and ignores our request for the refund of our money.
Today,  a county inspector showed up at  the house because he received an "anonymous call" that we were operating a commercial business out of our garage - which couldn't be furthest from the truth.  It's a garage and we do hobby woodworking.   The inspector inquired as to why we don't have a permit for the construction and we told him the contractor told us we didn't have to have it because we were just replacing previously approved construction that existed..  Now we have to get a permit for work and will probably have to start all over again so that it can get  approved.
So the nerve of this guy...he has our money illegaly without completing or starting work and won't return our calls and then he was probably the one that calls the county on us?  REALLY?!
Be warned everyone.  This guy has not followed through on his contractual obligations and is trying to keep our money while trying to get us in trouble.

Chris was absolutely fabulous to work with. He came out & provided an estimate the next day after being contacted, provided a very
reasonable estimate that included suggestions for additional items without any hard sell. The work product exceeded our expectations and we would recommend him without qualification. He and his team were exceedingly responsive, professional and delivered a high quality work product. Could not have had a better customer experience! Call Chris. You won't be sorry.

We're very pleased with the finished product.  The people who performed the work couldn't have been better.  Everything was on time, and turned out even better than expected.  Their Construction Manager, Mr. Reischman, is a Master Carpenter.  Working with pre-existing structures is always much harder than with new construction, but Mr. Reischman makes it all look so easy.

We initially expressed concern about the use of sheet tin as an interior wall material, and yellowing caulk, but Mike Clem came out to see the issues for himself and set about remedying the problems right away to our complete satisfaction.
