    James Lagueux, the owner of veteran owned and operated American Heating and Air on Cottonhill Road in Roanoke, spent several days publicly bashing a very well-liked and respected licensed master tradesman (it���s one thing to pose questions or make comments for people to think about, it���s another to bash). His bashing occurred on a prominent site where neighbors help one another. First of all, James said he did a search of the State Licensing website and found the man he was bashing was not licensed. That was FALSE. The man was licensed. When confronted that his statement was false, James went on to find more ways to bash the man. He publicly called the man and anyone who used him criminals. James was asked publicly if he was a tradesman. His reply was that he was a musician. Come to find out he is the owner and operator of American Heating and Air. So he publicly bashed the man, covering up that he too was in the same business. He was bashing his competitor. So he lied about his HVAC business and background and publicly tore down another respected tradesman. He was reported to the site as abusive. He is no longer a member of that site. This all says a lot about James��� character and honesty. I want people I hire to work on my home to have good character, have good credibility and to be honest. How are his skills and honesty on the job? I don���t know and don���t plan to find out. Character and honesty are 2 values I require and find him to be lacking.

    This company cannot find a problem. Took them three times coming out to find a problem with the water heater after my wife told them to check the thermostat. The Rheem water heater was less than a year old has a 5-year Parts 1 year labor warranty. Received a bill for all work saying it was not under warranty. Went to Rheem and found out it was under warranty so-called SJ Conner and Sons told them it's under warranty and how to get the money from Rheem for the warranty work. I guess they don't understand English because it took two to three phone calls for them to finally talk to Rheem. One invoice was not under warranty because their Tech could not find a problem and said it was a cartridge in the bathroom faucet replace that did not work. For this invoice I'm refusing to pay because they guessed and we're wrong and did not fix the problem. And now we're going to court and so are a lot of others I found out. So if you want shabby work end up in court hire this company. If you want good work reliable technicians call someone else

    Called Mon AM, serviceman showed up in an hour, added refrigerant, A/C working fine, then stopped working again in PM. Hot day, In the 90's. Called again and 2nd team showed up quickly and realized the real problem was a clogged drain in the condenser in attic, fixed with just a small fee this time, and has been working great ever since. Very responsive, price was fair based on other HVAC folks we've worked with, will give all our business to Kennard-Pace going forward. Tyler, Toad, and Bubba did great work, and were professional. My experience is stay away from Ostrom, they will overcharge (by a multiple of 3x on my last job quote) and try to sign you up for their program, not just fix the problem at hand. If you are desperate, they will fix the problem on the spot, but also use the cheapest materials to do so, which may not last.

    The first time I called I needed my AC serviced it was middle of summer extremely hot and the AC went out. There was no return call back after I left a message multiple times. The second time I thought I would try again he���s close to me and thought I would try once again to give a neighbor some work this time it was freezing outside and my furnace was going out And I have a nine-year-old little boy. Once again no reply. Would not call Mr. Bailey back ever again.

    Loved these guys. Were prompt, professional, knowledgeable. They were extremely thorough. They cleaned up better than any one I have ever used for anything. And they organized their clean-up so everything (including boxes) could be recycled. They came back the following day and checked on unit. About a week later got a call from Manuel who wanted to make sure I was all set with registering the warranty. Do not let their low price fool you���their install and product quality are A+. Heil was installed, 2 1/2 ton, both outside compressor and inside coil. The install both outside and inside is exceptional. The new sheetmetal around the a/c coil on the furance is clean, neat and tidy. I had them move the tubing going to the outside up 8��� so it was more above ground. They drilled through concrete and brick. Made sure new hole was properly sealed and filled and sealed up old hole. You���d never know this is a new hole. These are the guys who are in the ValPak mailing and have been for years. 3 person company. Father, son and friend. All 3 are great people. Manuel does the estimating. He is direct and honest as can be. He will not oversell you. He is extremely knowledgeable, been in the biz for 40+ years.

    I really appreciate all of Craig���s hard work with dealing with my air conditioning. Three weeks ago my A/C quit working during a weekend with 90+ degree temps and Craig was able to repair the unit, adding freon, and get it up and running again fairly quickly. Unfortunately, my unit (which was really old) finally gave out a week ago. I called first thing the next morning and Craig was able to respond very quickly and upon determining that the AC unit needed to be replaced, he took care of arranging everthing so that the new unit could be installed the next day. Not wanting to leave me without any AC, he added more Freon hoping it would hold until the next morning when the unit would be replaced. He arrived promptly at 8:00 am and worked all day to get the new unit installed. I really appreciate his professionalism and knowledge, he took the time to explain everything to me. Thanks again!!!

    My first experience with Southern Trust was positive. We had a clogged drain, and they were the only company I could get in touch with on a Saturday. The person they sent to snake the drain was courteous and professional. I was actually so impressed by him that I purchased a year of their "Total Care Club." Fast forward one week, when I was having an issue with my upstairs HVAC. They sent a technician to come out and have a look. He poked around for over an hour and couldn't find anything. He then had to call his "buddy" who knows something about Carrier HVAC systems (since he apparently did not know anything about them), and he then concluded that we had a "mismatched system." Our compressor outside, he said, was made to run on the newer R410a refrigerant, while the upstairs air handler was made to run on the older and now obsolete R22. His solution? We needed to replace THE ENTIRE SYSTEM, inside and out, and that if we wanted something comparable to what we have now, it was going to cost us roughly $12,000! I thanked him for his time and, as politely as I could, told him that I was fairly certain he had made a mistake. We have a Carrier Infinity HVAC, which is Carrier's top of the line system, and it is sensitive enough that it simply wouldn't run if the systems were mismatched like this. I paid him for the service call and showed him to the door. The next day I got a call from Southern Trust. They wanted to make sure I was happy with my service call. I wasn't happy, and I conveyed as much to the woman on the phone. She passed the message along to Roger (service manager?), who called me back to discuss the issue. I told him the story that I just told you, and he told me that he was going to side with his guy until I got a second opinion, and that I should call him back when I did and that he would refund the cost of my service call if it turns out that the problem was misdiagnosed. I told him that was fair. I called an in-town Carrier dealer, and they sent a technician out to take a look at my system. He confirmed what I already knew: that we did not have a mismatched system. "Whoever told you that has no business working on HVAC systems. I've been looking at your system for five minutes and I know it's not a mismatched system," he said. When all was said and done, we did need a new compressor, which wasn't cheap, but it was a far cry from a $12k total replacement. At this point I called Roger back to see about getting reimbursed for the cost of the service call. And to my shock, Roger had conveniently forgotten all about our conversation! He had no idea who I was, and had no memory of our conversation, or so he said. He took down my name and told me he would call me back in the morning. Five days later now and I'm still waiting for that call. I was optimistic about Southern Trust after my first visit, and I thought for sure I had found a home service company that I could keep on my speed dial and call for any and all emergencies. That changed very quickly when they sent a technician who either 1) had no idea what he was talking about or 2) was trying to take advantage of me. From subsequent conversations with former employees of Southern Trust, I know that their service guys work on some kind of commission plan, so I'm guessing he was just trying to jack up his paycheck. This experience was unfortunate not only because of the technician that they sent, but more significantly, for the company's unwillingness to side with the customer when the customer was clearly in the right! No technician from Southern Trust will ever set foot in my house again. I encourage you to read other reviews on here and other media for similar stories of price-gouging.

    I received excellent customer service during my service call about an old leaking air intake unit. The manager, Chet, whom I spoke to and made the appointment with, was very sweet and quick to get someone over to fix the issue. The man who came to do the service call was sweet, professional, and took the time to show me what was wrong and teach me how to unclog the pipe and prevent it from happening again in the future (which will save me money)! I will definitely be using W.C. Butler for any heating/air needs I may have in the future.

    A very small gas leak developed around the valve shaft on my gas fireplace. I called Butler to fix what I considered a very minor problem. They arrived on time and were professional in using booties, etc. We quickly detected that there was small leak past the valve packing and that the packing nut simply needed to be tightened to fix it. They said that they were not the gas experts and didn't have the tools to fix it on this visit. I pushed them to fix it anyway, using my own tools. I did some of the work and this was fixed on the first visit. I got the impression that Butler would have billed me for a 2nd visit if I had not completed this simple job for them. I'll give them the benefit of doubt but I don't appreciate being gouged for simple repair jobs.
