Driveway Pavers reviews in Purcellville

    John Donohue Asphalt Paving

I received bids from 3 bidders.  Two were approximately the same and one that was half of the others.   When I researched the difference I found that one bidder had completely missed the measurement by half and that is why the price was half of the others.   I thought about taking that bid but I was afraid they would realized their mistake halfway through and either as for more money or cut the quality of the delivery.

I choose john because of his knowledge of the job, his knowledge of the materials and his experience.   When I talked with john it was very apparent that he knew his job extremely well and had been doing it for a long time.   He really inspired confidence which made me feel good about giving him the chance to do the job.

John told me he would do a good quality job for me and I have to say even with high expectations he exceeded what I expected.   The driveway looks great.   He put on a good thick application, he dressed out the edges beautifully.  It really looks great.  John's crew really knew what they were doing the did a great job rolling it out.  The day after they put it down it rained really hard,  We have had some drainage issues with the previous driveway and john told me he could take care of that.   I watched how the rain drained and he did exactly what he said.   The entire driveway drained properly and all the water went exactly where john told me it would drain.  I had a pile of dirt and stone that had been in the way for about 3 years.   John told me he would move it while they had the equipment there if I would like.   I thought they would forget to do that truly but john delivered on his promise and moved it exactly where we had talked about, I was very pleased to have that cleaned up.

John gave me a fair price and delivered on his promise of doing an amazing job.  I could be more please with my interactions with John and with the quality of the work done.   If you want someone that really knows his business and takes pride in his work I strongly recommend you talk with john.

The work was excellent. The old driveway was significantly cracked, but they were able to use it as the base for the new paving.  We had concerns about puddling from the old drive, but so far, the new drive does not have the same issues. The edges are even and seem to be solid, providing a good look, and the transitions to the garage and shed were well done.  The asphalt itself seems a bit rougher than the old asphalt, but that could be due to its newness. The 1 year warranty on the project we thought was a plus and we will likely use them to do the sealing each year.

    Chesapeake Paving
We chose Chesapeake after requesting bids from eight companies (several of which never bothered even to get back to us, or stopped responding when I asked follow-up questions). Chesapeake's price was in the mid to lower range of the ones we received, and we noticed that they had many very positive reviews on Angie's List.
The project turned out to be more complicated than we anticipated, because we had to get approvals from the county and VDOT since the road is in an neighborhood still under development and so still on bond. But throughout the process, Chesapeake was helpful and responsive to our questions.
We also needed a long, 340-ft driveway that wended its way through woods and over three culverts. And when they looked over the plan, they realized they could save money by eliminating the need for one of the culvert pipes, and could make another one located closer to the house barely visible.
I was skeptical when they said the job would take just two days, but by the end of day one they had the roadway cleared and gravel installed. On the second day they installed the asphalt and did grading work.
Since I work at home, I had plenty of time to watch the crew at work and talk to them as they progressed on the job. They were all incredibly talented, very friendly, and worked fast and efficiently.
When they finished, we had a beautiful new driveway and there was little evidence to suggest that it had just been installed.

    John Donohue Asphalt Paving
Excellent.  Orig contacted John Donohue Asphalt Paving in Oct 2013.  They provided an estimate, but, unfortunately, I wasn't able to proceed at that time.  I recontacted him in May and he said he would honor the original cost estimate.  His crew showed up on the agreed upon day and removed the bad sections; removed the top of the drive (in order to create a smooth and level surface along the entire driveway); laid new asphalt; and leveled the entire driveway.
The date of the work had to change a couple of times due to weather.  Mr. Donohue called each time their was a weather issue (twice) to reschedule a new date.
Easy to deal with and was on-site to oversee the work.

    John Donohue Asphalt Paving
The driveway was paved fin August. However over the winter the sides have crumbled in areas. The asphalt was made too high and not compacted enough on.the edges. Also, the end of the drive way was not made level with road and therefore the snow plows caught under the edge and tore it up. I called Mr. Donahue multiple times to repair the issues and he did not return a call until I told him I was placing a review on Angie's List. At that time he returned my call and said he would do the repairs in the few weeks. It has been over a month and again I have not heard from him. I did see his trucks in Purcellville so I know he has been on the area. His original work seemed at the time satisfactory, but his follow up leaves a lot to desired.

    Kerrigan Paving
.Kerrigan workers were arrived exactly when they said they would and finished the job on the schedule we were given.   I had one problem area.   I called Kerrigan to let them know and they came out and fixed it without issue.   I feel that I got more than I paid for and they stood behind their work when I had a small problem.   I really appreciated that.

In August 2013, I responded to a mailbox flier for a free quote for a chip and tar driveway.  This is exactly what I had been looking for.  The owner's sister, Ann, responded quickly and said she could fit me in before another appointment.  She came, she measured, we discussed options, and made a plan.  She gave me a written quote and I gave her a check for $1000 to schedule the work.  I did have to have a tree removed prior to the work.  About a month or so later, I started calling to have the work completed.  No response to my message.  Eventually I reached Ann and she said she was in New York and would call me the following day and likely schedule the work for the following week.  I never heard from her again.  Then I started to leave messages asking for return of my deposit.  Nothing.  One day I actually got a human (guy) on the phone and asked for a refund.  He was to have someone call me back.  Nothing.
I may never see my $1000 but please avoid this company.

These guys did a great job sealing my driveway and for less than I expected.  I was going to seal the driveway myself but I got a knock on the door asking if I wanted an estimate and when he gave me the price I said sure.  The job was done professionally, neatly on time and on budget. Can't ask for more than that.

Nichols Asphalt Paving & Seal Coating
I called and the business returned my call very promptly. We scheduled the service date and they came out within a week. They explained the procedure and proceeded to seal the driveway. They did an excellent job.
