We used a new product called "deck over" by Behr and it was a "bear" to work with. Extremely thick and difficult to spread evenly but we went through the learning curve and the deck was brought back to life and looks great.

    Awnings by Bigley & Hogshire
Only one small hiccup. When they first scheduled the installations, they only had 2 of the four awnings. They rescheduled installations the next week with all four awnings in hand. Very prompt and efficient with the installations.

This company gave me a good estimate, took my deposit and then didn't want to show to do the work. After they had my deposit they wanted more money than the quote to get started. After over 6 weeks of waiting they had not even purchased the materials yet, I canceled the job. Still waiting for the refund to post to my credit card. Watch out for this company, they take your money and do nothing but give you excuses.

    Total Home Improvements
After having a good experience with THI on my exterior work five years ago, I've always gone back to them to have other projects done. My experience with this company has been very positive.

The employees of THI are very courteous and professional.  They come on time and with a positive attitude.  The project managers that I worked with (I had the same person for two of my jobs and a different person for this latest huge remodel) were very knowledgeable of every aspect of the job.  They both did a good job scheduling all of the trades workers and keeping everything moving forward.  They both communicated very well with me and I always knew exactly who was coming, what they were coming to do, and when they would be there.  Did everything go exactly on schedule - well no.  I added several changes to the job, including gutting and redoing another bathroom at the last minute.  So we had to adjust time frames and expectations.  When we had a delay in the cabinet installation, due to my decision to rip out old plaster and replace with new drywall, Greg, the project manager worked swiftly and deliberately to catch us back up so we could finish as projected.

THI uses good sub contractors.  The floor, tile, electrical, and plumbing guys rocked.  They use small companies so there isn't a crew coming into your home.  The tile installer works alone.  The electrical company has two employees so the same two come every time and get to know your home electrical system well.  Same with the plumbers and floor installers.  I like that about THI.  Sure it isn't as fast sometimes as if a crew is sent in, but these trades people were truly professional, treating my house like their own.  I believe they did a better job than a bigger company would, and had more pride in their work.  To be honest, the owner of the dry wall company they used for my job was a bit rude, but Total Home Improvements quickly remedied that issue once I let them know.  All of the other sub-contractors were so very nice and professional and respectful.  I feel very fortunate to have met these fine craftsmen.

My experience with the sales representatives has also been very positive.  I used the same sales rep for two of my projects and he partnered with another sales rep on the major interior renovation they just finished.  They worked with me on the design and we made adjustments along the way.

I do not have any experience with the painters, however.  i have a painter that I have used for years (also works alone) so I opted to have him do the painting for my job.

Anyway, I am happy with all the choices I made throughout this renovation and with the work that Total Home Improvements did themselves or had done to make this reno happen.  It was complicated, removing walls and installing engineered beams, etc.  I worked at home throughout the whole reno, so I basically set up in one room.   My advice to anyone considering a renovation is to be very clear in what you want to have done and be very specific in your contract and understand the allowances, etc. in your contract and make adjustments if you need to. I marked mine up on a word document so I could be absolutely sure we were on the same page.  It took several revisions before we finalized the contract.   Also be realistic with your expectations and understand that there will be puts and takes along the way.  Material gets delayed; you make a change and things have to be redone.  Be patient and keep in constant contact with your project manager.  Understand that these people are human too.  The project manager may have a dozen jobs at any given time.

My tape measure broke the other day so I guess their work is done!  But if I have any other home improvements I have Total Home Improvements on my speed dial.  Seriously, it got frustrating at times - it was a 6 month major renovation after all.  But any frustration on my part was situational and the project manager was experiencing the same frustration.  Together we worked through any issues or decisions as they arose.

After the job was complete i'd say it was done pretty close to perfectly.  I have an old house and there's only so much you can do with an old house.  In my opinion Total Home Improvements did as much as could be done to maximize the footprint of my house, updating it from its 1970's look while maintaining the character of the home.

Thanks for reading my review.  I wish you luck in your home projects.

    Power House Painting
The owner Brian Martin was very prompt in coming out to the house and had an estimate back to us the same day, We decided on someone with a slightly lower estimate.  I would certainly contact Power House again for an estimate of future painting requirements.

    -Well spoken
    -Good price
    -Mostly professional
-Siding looks good from a distance
-was for the most part responsive
-Left exterior electrical outlets hanging, not mounted, The electrical boxes behind the outlets were not fixed to anything..  When they "fixed" them they didnt put boxes in just screwed the outlets into the sheathing under the siding.
-The covers on the outlets didn't fit and couldn't be opened or closed properly because they were not designed to be mounted in the siding frame they were trying to mount them in.
-He did send someone out to fix the exterior outlets but they didn't do a very good job. One of the outlet covers was stuck closed and I had to pry it open. The other was left wedged open and would not close. I had to mount electrical boxes and replace the outlet covers myself with a style that fit. He did offer to come out again to fix the outlets but I told him I would take care of it.  This was before I realized there were so many other issues.
When his employee came out to fix the outlet they went under the house and took siding that he had left behind and told me I could keep as extra extra. When I called he denied that they would have done that.  He contacted me back not too long after and admitted they had removed it and apologized.  According to the owner this was due to miscommunication because the employee was not a native english speaker.
Before I realized the issues below I asked him to come out and take a look at some small  roof issues at another house.  He said he would but never showed up and never heard back from him about it.
Tried to contact him about the issues below, I left a voice mail but he never called me back.
Left a lot of gaps in the caulk around the windows and around the siding frames around the outlets.  I had to caulk the windows myself.  Some of the gaps were so big I could see the sheathing under the siding and the gaps were plenty big enough and in locations that left unfixed water would have been pouring into them. The siding that was cut to outline the frame was not cut properly, it is jagged and in some spots as much as an inch and a half away from the siding outlet frame
Exterior security lighting was not mounted properly and when I try to adjust the lights the entire fixture moves. Unfortunately these are mounted very high so I am left with either hiring someone else to come fix them or I will need to find a 30ft ladder to fix them myself. I figured this out when a neighbor complained that the light was left pointed directly into her daughters window and I tried to move the light away from her window.  If not for that I never would have spotted this issue.
the 45 cuts on the metal wrap around the windows were bulging away from the window and left un-caulked.
This is a rental property. Luckily I was doing some work on the property as well so I had the opportunity to spot these issues.  If not the house would have been left with water pouring down behind the siding in several areas.
In my opinion If you are someone who is capable of going behind this company and repairing the issues they leave behind this might be a good reasonably priced option but if you want to know that the job was done completely right you may want to look elsewhere.

    Atlantic Roofing & Siding Services
Hire this Contractor!! Excellent workmanship and attention to detail. Mike and crew were superb workers, tidy, punctual, and tenacious when it came to getting a difficult job completed. We are extremely pleased with the work. They replaced the main house roof shingles, repaired a carport that had some rotten rafters, sheathing, and facia, put on a really nice TPO sheathing designed for a low-pitched roof. All wood was wrapped, and gutters installed. The detailed processes for all work was phenomenal. Mike oversaw all details, as well as doing much of it himself. Mike's crew did excellent work even when Mike wasn't present, and they were extremely courteous and respectful, and took a lot of pride in their work. The place was left clean each day, all debris carried away, nails picked up, walkways, deck, driveway swept and blown off. It was such a pleasure to have a Contractor do precisely what they say they can, and even do it better than you expect.

    Hipp Masonry Works Inc

Contacted Mr. Hipp on his cell phone and described the masonry repair job.  He was on a site, but said he would give me a call back next day.  I also called his office and left the same information with my phone number and the address (in case he misplaced it at the job he was on).  Did not hear from him -- no call back.

Approximately 10 days later, I called his office again and left a message with the same information and requested a call back.

Have not heard from him -- if he was not interested in doing the work, I would have appreciated notification so I could contact another contractor.  All together, we waited over two weeks for a response.

    Power House Painting
Wash went pretty good. Punctual, friendly, etc. After water dried, had to call back due to black residue/mildew remaining on trim and gutters on north side. He promptly returned and rewashed the areas I pointed out. House does look better for price paid. Hard to tell where some dirt remains while still wet, but more care to insure it was cleaned right would have saved both our time.
Not very satisfied with cost estimate that was done by a third person that did based estimate on information relayed by the supervisor. Economy for size of job I suppose. Cost estimate for extra rot of trim and soffit and paint shutters, was very expensive and I am waiting for another estimate. Estimate was 3-4 times what I think it should be. Will see. If that much by both estimators, I will do easy parts myself and get another estimate for just the upper areas.  Extra high cost estimates by contractors in this area are the norm in my experience. Overall fairly satisfied.

It was excellent. The work was done in a timely manner. The gentlemen that came were very polite and very nice. Everything worked out really well. In fact, I am going to call them again for this year. They showed up when they said that they would and they got the job done quickly than they said that it would be done.
