    Hope Advanced Veterinary Center
Our precious girl died less than 24 hours after being released. They did a precautionary chest x-ray upon admission that was completely clear. She seemed okay the afternoon after being released, but was lethargic and had a bad cough the next morning. We took her to Pender and the x-rays showed her lungs suddenly full of fluid and they said nothing could be done to save her. Because this seemed completely unrelated to the original GI issue, I did some research online and found that giving too much fluid via IV can cause the lungs to fill with fluid. When I spoke to a vet at Pender about this, he agreed that this was a likely cause. Of course Hope will deny that they made any such mistake, and I'll never prove it, but I am certain that Hope killed our beloved family member. Needless to say, we will never trust Hope with a pet again.

They are amazing. They are topnotch. The two vets that we go to are Adam McClury and Fiona McClury. They are wonderful with the animals. They are always on point. They will not hesitate to refer you to a specialist if your pet needs one.

    Southside Animal Hospital
We called the Southside Animal hospital in Manassas because we have a lot of dogs and cats being adopted into their Community.  The sole purpose is to be able to send them medical, adoption and related information.  They refused stating that we should use a fax, which we have not done in over 10 years because they are so bad for the environment

I called two days before to make a reservation in mid June to board 3  cats. When I arrived, the person behind the desk was on the phone and never acknowledged my presence as I waited for some time for her to finish her call. Upon finishing, she proceeded to process our reservation, again showing no interest in us or her job. It made me feel quite uncomfortable to leave my cats. I asked to go back with the technician to transition the cats into their "spacious condo". This was nothing more than a tiny 2 foot square, if that, area which they thought appropriate to put 3 cats together in. Yes it has a much smaller are with the litter box but that's all the smaller area fits. No room for the cat to stay in that area and what cat would want to? To advertise this as spacious and to not tell me how small it was made me feel awful. I thought saving money buy combining my cats was fine but not like this. I left feeling awful about the situation knowing my cats would literally be on top of each other. They pile on fees for playing with the cat and for every little thing making for a very expensive stay if you want the cat to actually walk while you are away. By that I mean it is so crowded in this "condo" it has virtually no room to move around. I called them that evening and told them someone would pick up the cats the following day. They proved pretty incompetent in passing my message to the desk the next day who had no record of the credit card so the person had to pay. In fact they told him they didn't know where the credit card info was kept even when we explained what we were told the night before. You'd think they would have called me like I asked them to do if they had a problem.they could not even leave a note for the morning staff? How secure are they in keeping my instructions to take care of my cats?
I will add, that this is not the first time I boarded here. I have used Pender Veterinary Center in Fairfax for years and thought this was the best place for my pets with all their medical information right on hand. It has been several years since I boarded because I had a bad experience the time before with semi-copmpetent people at the desk.  I thought perhaps they got their act together. Not so. It makes you wonder if the people who are the face of the place are this unprofessional, what kind of care are my animals receiving? Not going there again.

She seems better but it depends on which veterinarian you get. The vet who had seen her the last couple of times recommended going to the Hope center in Vienna. It was $250 just for the initial consultation. I was on Yelp and some people said it was wonderful. But, other people said that it was so expensive. But then, on Yelp, someone mentioned this vet who I had seen several years ago at Pender. They have a lot of vets. She specializes in geriatric animals. I liked her. So, I took my dog. I canceled the Hope appointment. The visit was $62 minus $50 for the old dog discount. So, it was basically $12. She was brilliant. She looked at the x-rays. The dog is now on Prednisone. It was $600 worth of x-rays. It would have been more at Hope. My son-in-law is a radiologist. He came and looked at them. Of course, he does humans. But he said that she was right on and that everything she said was correct. So, I would recommend Pender. But it depends on who your vet is also. I've been going there for years.

    BURKE ANIMAL CLINIC
What can I say, these guys are great!!  I just moved to VA and needed a Vet for my dog.  Since we take a more holistic approach with his healthcare, and have since he was a puppy, I asked my Vet in New Mexico if there was an organization for vets that practice holistic veterinary medicine, as well as conventional.  She steered me to a website, which listed Burke Animal Clinic.  I took "Casey" for a checkup the first week I arrived, not that he really needed it, but I wanted to do a "checkup" on the clinic.  We were greeted with kindness and professionalism.  The staff are beyond wonderful!  The first visit he saw Dr. Harritty, who is kind, gentle, professional and very knowledgeable!   The second visit for Casey's blood work, we saw Dr. Johnson.  Another incredible interaction with a true caring, compassionate professional.  It gives me great comfort knowing that Casey will receive the best of care in the future.  Highly, highly recommend this clinic for your furry family member.  I drive 30 minutes to this clinic and I wouldn't go anywhere else!

We have gone to this practice for years and years.
They have taken care of all of the animals we have, for a variety of issues.
Last year, they had to remove teeth from one of our cats. They did a beautiful job.
They have given shots to our cats.
One time they had to put my very elderly cat to sleep and were kind and compassionate about the difficult situation.
This past Christmas, we adopted a cat from them. They answered all my questions about this cat. We had two at home, and needed a new one to get along with the other two. And not to be shy. And to be nice. And they assured us this particular cat would fit the bill. And it has! He's a perfect cat for us.
Sometimes, when they have time, they let us go into a room and visit and play with and pet the cats they are taking care of for a long time (like the cats that have no home and are waiting to be adopted).
Over all, this has been an excellent practice for our cats and the people are smart, kind, and friendly. I recommend them 100%.

The Reston Animal Hospital is unusual in that they offer both saturday and sunday hours which made it quite convenient to schedule an appointment. The exams were with Dr. Arthur for one cat and Dr. Miller for the other cat and went well. I scheduled one of my cats for the first appointment of the day since she doesn't handle car travel well and they saw her almost immediately. They quickly gave the required shots and took blood work without upsetting the cats. The vet responded within a couple of days with the results. I was quite happy with the cost for the procedures in comparison to my last vet.

Don't chance low cost spay-neuter providers.  Although a bit more money than compared to the low cost providers, Pender Vets are top-notch and professional.  I am very happy with knowing that our dog was in good hands of the entire professional team.

They've been great! The cost of the service was 40 bucks including rabies vaccination. The nicest thing about them is that even though they're a large practice we're able to see the same vet every time. They've got about 20 vets there but if you want to stick with the same one and schedule all your appointments with them you can. You get the benefit of a big provider with the intimacy of a small provider. I haven't had a dog in years so I don't even know their cost relative to others but everything seems to be reasonable.
