Handyman reviews in Oak Hill

  • The technician arrived a half hour early, which was fine because part of the job was to go into the attic to replace a bathroom fan exhaust hose. I had a number of items I wanted done to finish the remodeling of a bathroom. He replaced two bathroom exhaust fans, replaced a 3 inch hose with a 4 inch hose in the attic, replaced a light fixture above the vanity, hung the mirror, installed a side splash, including caulking, and caulked the medicine cabinet. Planned for four hours and had some extra time because he worked quickly, so had him replace a light fixture outside over the deck. He was professional, neat, friendly, and efficient. I used another handyman company for other work in the bathroom, but I would use Rent A Pro again for future jobs because they were cheaper and still did a quality job. The communication with the main office was very good also.

  • Not happy. I was charged for hours where the guys didn't even do any work. There was an additional charge on supplies they bought (so if Home Depot charges $100 for the supplies - these guys will add an additional $8 - not sure why - it's not like they are making any professional selections). Apparently - these guys like to overestimate the hours required to complete a job. For example, they estimate 3 hours to change a door lock. I am guessing their reply will be that they adjusted the hours down - but they still overcharged by five hours. I will never use these guys and will do my best to steer others away from them. • I've hired JW now for a couple of small projects and have been pleased all around with the service. I had a coupon 1 man for 6 hours $402. The job required 2 men for 4 hours. A 40 foot ladder was also required. The final bill was higher than I anticipated ( I had to pay for extra labor and for the materials) and it seems like the price has gone up from previous jobs done. However, they did exactly what I wanted and the work has been done so I'm satisfied.

  • I called the owner, Nelson, to perform multiple types of repair items from fixing non working electrical outlet, to fix leaking toilet, to replace lamps , to paint exterior of the TH to address items identified by the buyer in the home inspection. Nelson was very prompt and punctual and helped me meet a very tight timeline for the sale. Weather was not cooperating but he adjusted his plans to ensure the work could still get done in a timely manner to ensure that the buyer was happy with the work and the closing date did not have to move. I was pleased with the work and will highly recommend them for your house work.

  • Adrian from Home Surgeons was just wonderful! Our job involved a house in Miami and we live out of the area so we were concerned that it would be difficult to pull off this renovation long distance. It all worked out great. We met Adrian in person and then made all of the arrangements over the phone and internet. He kept us abreast of the daily progress with texts & pictures.. Adrian is a true professional. He is punctual, neat, the work is of high quality and he finished the job in a timely manner. We definitely recommend Home Surgeon’s to anyone and we will call him again for our next project.

  • I'm tempted to give Steve a bad review to reduce the competition for his services. Maybe that way he would be available for my exclusive use. But that would be unfair to my Northern Virginia neighbors. Steve was prompt, friendly, courteous, reliable, expert, and reasonably-priced. He was also creative: When the replacements he purchased for our outdated bathroom exhaust fans did not quite fit the existing mountings, he used a Dremel drill to carefully cut a 1/2 inch piece off the motor shaft of each one. His solution worked: the new fans fit perfectly, run smoothly, and are far quieter than the screechy, ear-drum busting, jet-plane-at-takeoff noise we had become used to. Steve even brought treats for our dog, Sirius! I could not recommend him highly enough, and plan to use him again and often.

  • I had the hardware, I just needed the labor -- not as young and flexible as I used to be. The service was easy to schedule, and the technician was on time, attentive to my needs, knowledgeable about both my plumbing and electrical requirements, and protective of the floor and counter as he worked. The service was very reasonably priced compared to plumbing companies I priced. Mr. Handyman took care of my problem in one trip. I will definitely call them for additional, similar services.

  • I have worked with Easy Renovations for a year now on multiple jobs. They are dependable and very knowledgeable on all facets of home repair & home upgrades. My clients have all been very complimentary on their work, prices and attentiveness. I highly recommend Easy Renovations. Feel free to contact me with any questions.

  • Kayla and her team did a fantastic job at very reasonable pricing, when we needed A hundred things done to prep our house for sale last May. She updated two bathrooms with new tile and paint, installed a new vanity, fixed a gouge in the wall, and replaced the lighting and sink hardware. She stripped wallpaper and patched wall gouges from my sons’ playing lacrosse inside (!) and repainted. Many other places in the house needed attention too. She brought in specialists where needed (tiling, wallboard) and got the work done quickly. She was great to deal with, very positive and calm during a time of upheaval for me and my family. Wish we had found her sooner so we could have enjoyed the updates and repairs we never had time to do ourselves! Highly recommend!

  • Price: Most importantly, the original estimate for the work (after site survey mind you) was $615, and the final price came to $973.47, nearly 60% higher than what was originally quoted. When I asked the office manager why we ended up so far off the original estimate, she just told me that sometimes the work takes longer (but 70% longer?). We were actually slightly over the original estimate on the first day ($658.27), and the worker needed to return for a second day. At that point I wasn't made aware that we were going to end up so far over the original estimate, so I thought it would just be a very quick in-and-out on the second day, but I ended up with a bill for another 5.5 hours on top of the 8 hours already completed. Quality: It's really too bad, because the actual work looks pretty good. The interior wall/ceiling/fan look great, even better than when I moved in. The exterior looks good also. I can tell there is some minor damage to the frame of the window now, presumably from the exterior work to diagnose the leak, but nothing really noticeable if you're not already looking for it. Responsiveness/Punctuality/Professionalism: The majority of my communication with Ted and Nancy was via email, and they were quick to respond to my inquiries. The original estimate was about a day later than promised, and I had to call to get the day-1 invoice detail and receipt that wasn't sent after I paid the first day, but nothing too major. Ted, Nancy, and Miguel all seemed like nice people, and they were pleasant to work with. Overall, I enjoyed working with the team, and the work looks good now that it's completed, but to be that far off on an estimate is just a non-starter for me. I thought the original estimate was reasonable enough that I didn't pursue additional quotes (won't make that mistake again), but it can really be a budget killer when you're trusting a site-surveyed estimate that doesn't even get in the ballpark.
