    All Friends Pet Care
We are so happy (both humans and canine) with All Friends Pet Care. Our Lily has separation anxiety issues and this was her first time being alone. We had the help of neighbors for feeding and relief duties, but my daily walk through Frying Pan had not been covered. With the neighbor hood teens starting school the week we were gone I had to come up with a way to keep the routine going. I am not sure whether I heard about AFPC from Lily's vet or another dogwalker, but it worked out better than I expected. We were lucky enough to have Pam come by every weekday rain, shine, or superheat to give Lily the attention and exercise she craves. She and Lily became instant friends on the first meet up. Pam was so attentive about Lily's physical conditions in the high heat and humidity that followed Labor Day this year. She managed to keep up the wallks cutting short if Lily seemed to tire. I really appreciated the fact that she could read Lily's exhaustion meter. Not only was her presence a help for Lily, it also made me relax knowing everything was safe at home. Pam is one of the owners, and if her enthusiasm filters down to the other walkers this is a winning company. A little dog whispered to me: "I just loved her smile and attitude and she made the walks fun! When is she coming back?" The pictures taken during the wallk were great to look at while away. Nice touch!

Helene is the dog walker who comes over regularly. Our dog is large and she has been doing great with him. When we have needed to switch scheduled days, they have been responsive. Their prices are very fair. Everything has been going great!

    EVERYTHING AND THE DOG
I've been using Everything and the Dog for about 8 months for mid-day dog walking services.  They are absolutely awesome!  My walker is usually Jodi, and she's wonderful.  I can't say enough nice things about her and really appreciate all she does.  She definitely goes above and beyond to help with my old guy!  Communication and responsiveness is superb.  And my dog adores her, too.  Couldn't be more pleased (unless the rates were a little less expensive).  As they say, you get what you pay for and I definitely struck it rich with them!

    The Pet Elf, Inc
Until April 2012 I had the luxury of walking my pug during my lunch break during the week. When I accepted a much better offer at a new company it was impossible for me to make the trip home and back to work within an hour. I considered leaving him at home inside all day (which he is capable of doing without any accidents), but since he is a pug he is rather needy and super lazy. I knew he would not move the entire day if someone didn't get him up to go for a walk. The last thing I wanted to do was to give someone I didn't know full access to my apartment and most disturbingly give someone I didn't know the opportunity to mistreat my dog. I came to the conclusion I needed to do what was best for Harley and have faith that I could find someone I was willing to trust.
I did some internet surfing and The Pet Elf came up first in addition to a few others. I thought the name was so cute so I decided to start with that one first. When I spoke to Kim she immediately subsided some of my fears simply because she asked intelligent questions. She also listened to me babble on about my spoiled dog and how I didn't really want a dog walker, but I didn't want him sitting around all day, etc. Even though she was probably asking herself and quot;ok, why is this girl calling me if she doesn't want a dog walkerand quot; she was genuinely empathetic and made an effort to assure me I was making the right decision.
Kim and Karla came to and quot;interviewand quot; Harley a few weeks later and if I thought I liked Kim, I loved Karla!!! Since my dog is and quot;shyand quot; (which is a nice way of saying stubborn) with strangers at first (a question Kim asked me in our initial conversation) he was paired up with someone who wouldn't be afraid to gently, but firmly convince him to do what he needed to do. I was impressed with the questions Karla asked as well as her interaction with Harley during the interview. She was extremely professional and asked responsible questions which put my mind at ease right away. I was so relieved! It recently occurred to me I never even though about calling another company after they left and I'm glad I didn't!
Karla has been wonderful for ME and Harley! It is so nice not to feel rushed to get home because my dog has been inside for 10hrs. I have a note from her everyday letting me know how is walk went (#1 and/or #2) and that she refreshed his water. She has put up with me forgetting to answer the gate code when trying to get into the apartment community, has accepted large packages on my behalf, and even turned the AC on when I forgot about it one summer morning.
Karla and Kim have been the biggest blessings in my life over the last 8 to 9 months. The peace of mind is worth much more than $16/day. I am re-locating to Florida in January and will miss having them! I can only hope this review is as valuable to them as they are and have been to me.
Harley and I love the Pet Elf...they are AWESOME!

For the love of the animals LLC
I would not recommend Marty Fitzgerald to anyone for dog sitting, walking, or home watching services.  She made herself entirely too comfortable in my home, and although I cannot prove it, I had a significant amount of pain medicine go missing and Marty was the only individual with unlimited access to my home.

I found Marty and For the Love of the Animals through an online search and needed a dog walker to provide me with support for my 8 week old puppy.  Marty was very responsive to my schedule and provided services from January to June.  There were a couple instances early on in her support that I felt she became too "familiar" in my home, doing my dishes and folding my laundry without being asked.  When  I asked her to stop she did so.  She did one overnight weekend for me and when I returned home I wasn't sure but it smelled like she'd been smoking in my house.  At the end of May I was home a couple times when she stopped by for a second unscheduled visit and let herself into my home, eventhough my car was in the driveway.

In mid-June I was preparing for a week trip overseas.  I have a chronic pain condition, but fortunately had not had to touch my pain meds since a surgery in late October.  I'm neurotic about pain meds and use them as my plan B to other forms of treatment.  In packing for my trip the night I was leaving I decided to pack my pain meds just in case.  I was surprised to see 3 of 4 prescriptions notably depleted.  Knowing I have not touched the meds in over 6 months, and Marty is the only individual with unlimited access to my home, I surmised that she had been pilfering my pain meds.

Long of the short, I wouldn't trust her in my home.  She made herself too comfortable in my home.

    Alternative Pet Care
I had an absolutely terrible, and terrifying experience, using Alternative Pet Care to walk my dog. The very first day on the job the inexperienced APC dog walker let my dog escape, then lied and blamed it on the dog. Frantic calls to APC went unanswered for two days, then I was brushed off with a "don't worry, they usually find their way home in three or four days" from the office manager. Subsequent phone calls were ignored: I had to threaten to sue to get forwarded up the management chain and get any assistance in mounting a search and recovery effort (printing up flyers, running ads etc.) The company has no emergency plan for the recovery of pets lost while in their care, didn't even know about Find Fido or Craigslist lost pet posts, let alone tracking services, and had no advice at all on how to set up search. Luckily complete strangers came to my aide: one set up a blog to track daily sightings, and the Virginia German Shepherd Rescue group put up hundreds of flyers and VGSR volunteers brought their dogs out and spent hundreds of hours tracking my dog. He was finally recovered after being lost for 21 days during the December 2009 snowstorm. He was emaciated and infested with parasites and life threatening bacterial infections. I submitted the vet bills to APC and was stonewalled -- the company failed/refused to submit my insurance claim for three months. Again, I had to threaten to sue. Then I had to deal with their insurance company, and threaten to sue again, when they refused to pay for the reward I had offered (which the APC manager had said would be covered.) I have settled but still have not been paid. APC is part of an umbrella group called Virginia Pet Sitters, and The Doggie Walkers. There are so many good, service oriented, caring, and responsible dog walking companies in the area that there is no reason for anyone who loves their pets to use this service. Do not use this service -- for your dog's sake!

    The Doggie Walkers
Everything has been going smoothly for us and we plan to continue using the service. Please note that your dog must be up to date on shots and have a current dog license. Care is taken that the walker and your dog actually meet and get along. Typically you will always have the same walker. Plenty of notice is given if a substitute needs to come in. They get to meet your dog too! Because their policy is to walk only your dog(s), you don't have to worry about your walker dealing with a pack of dogs. Although we haven't needed it, Doggiewalkers can also handle daily medication and other special needs that your dog may have.
