    Betty Donskoy MD
I first started seeing Dr. Donskoy about 10 or 11 years ago for Bipolar Disorder. I was on her waiting list for two months, which told me she must be very good to be in such demand. Dr. Donskoy is wonderful! She is an excellent listener, and is conservative in prescribing medication so you don't take too much or too little medication to control your health problem. She is thorough and detailed in asking the right questions to determine the precise state of your health. Whereas my previous doctor had not listened to my repeated statements about certain medications not working properly for my body chemistry (some med's work on one person but don't work as well on another person), Dr. Donskoy took my feedback seriously, and in just a few months, she had my disorder completely under control, and within a year, even had my disorder IN REMISSION!! And it has remained in remission ever since. Dr. Donskoy never goes longer than two and a half months in between visits with me, and if there is anything challenging that has been or will be going on in life, or if there has been a major change in mood recently, she will ask to see you in one month. This might seem excessive or unnecessary to some folks, but is in fact a good practice when you are trying to keep a mood disorder in check and in remission. The prior doctor who hadn't listened to me, had also only agreed to see me every six months. The more often the doctor sees you, the better they know you and can assess your health, and make the right decision on tweaking your medication. Over the years, I have been able to reduce the amount of medicine I take, and yet achieve the same level of good health. I wish I had found Dr. Donskoy when I was first diagnosed. My life would have been a lot better in the earlier years.

My experience has gone very well. I have been seeing the doctor for about 10-12 years now. She is very friendly, professional and knowledgeable in her field. The office is clean and welcoming. I would highly recommend this doctor to others.

    Inova Kellar Center
Kellar seems to want the 'quick fix'. The partial hospitalization program gives your child two weeks, at which point he or she is either discharged too early, or sent to full hospitalization. They seem to have a 'we know best' attitude and don't want to enter into discussions with the parent or child. There is no questioning their decisions, and they can be pretty harsh about turning patients out of the center on a dime if the patient says something that appears to risk their safety or the safety of others. In hindsight I would recommend seeking individual counseling from a recommended private therapist before going down the institutional road. Like schools, Kellar seems to take the typical institutional response to most problems - quick to escalate in order to cover themselves, rather than taking the long view with the patient's, rather than the Center's, best interest in mind.
To be fair, our healthcare system doesn't make it easy to provide the best mental health care. Some of Kellar patients would be better off in full hospitalization, but insurance either won't cover it, or won't cover it for as long as is necessary. It feels like a factory. Most people go there because the school's recommend it, and they are pretty much the only game in town when it comes to community mental health. Perhaps if there were more places like this available they wouldn't be stretched so thin.
This year two of the best therapists there left after a short time in order to return to private practice.

Always goes fine. Making sure he's taking care of his patient's needs. He is so far the best.
