    Coastal Contracting
I hired Joshua Klochak on February 25th, 2014.  I signed contracts for $10,000 worth of work and gave him a deposit check for $3,950.   He stated he would come back and stake off the locations for my deck & ramada so I could get a better feel for placement ? this did not happen.  That same day (2/25), I emailed him my deck design.  On 3/6 he replied the material cost would be the same, but he would need to create a new labor estimate ? this never happened.
On 3/14/14 I emailed asking for a project start date.  I finally heard back from him 3/18/14 saying he was stacked up with jobs.  I wanted to see some movement for my $3,950.  I asked that he please keep me informed so I don?t have to keep tracking him down ? this didn?t happen.
A month after giving him a deposit (it?s now March 26th) ? still no communication since 3/18 from Joshua Klochak even though I?ve left voice mails and sent email asking he call me.  On this day I decided to cancel the contract due to unreasonable delays, lack of communication from Mr. Klochak, his failure to commit to a start date, as well as discovering he is not licensed for home improvement work.  We verbally cancelled the contracts and mailed a formal cancellation letter priority mail on March 26th which was delivered the 27th.  Based on contract text this was within my rights.
Summary: Each week I had to call or email asking when he might start my projects ? he did NOT initiate communication.  He stated he was running behind due to weather ? understandable.  However, if he was not working due to weather, he had plenty of time to provide a new labor estimate for my deck ? which never happened.
I contacted Angie?s List for help.  Only due to assistance/calls from Angie?s to Mr. Klochak, on 4/7/14 he did return $2,200 of my money and in a text he stated his intention was to pay me back in full ? that never happened.  April 7th was the last communication from him.  He DID NOT purchase material for my jobs, THIS IS A FACT. He spent the money.
I was more than patient with Mr. Klochak & gave him every opportunity to return my money.  I finally filed a Warrant in Debt with the city of Newport News for $1,750 to the Newport News address he previously listed on Angie?s List.  We had a court date of May 12, 2014.  He failed to appear in court.  The city has issued a judgment against him.  He cannot use his address change on Angie?s List as an excuse for not appearing in court.  You can easily go online to Virginia Court cases to see historically, there are other cases for which he failed to appear.
Mr. Klochak cannot talk his way out of keeping someone?s money ? not due to weather, no purchase of materials, having to ?process out? contracts, there?s simply no excuse.  Any rebuttal he posts here is untrue.  I do not recommend doing business with this person.  I recommend when hiring contractors, be proactive and look up their license first at www.dpor.virginia.gov/LicenseLookup, ask around locally if anyone knows the company, don?t give them deposit money
until they purchase material.  Learn from my mistake.

    Titan Contracting LLC
Erik Quam and Titan Construction worked two major projects and a few minor jobs - all went extremely well. Bottom line up front: Highly recommended and I would engage Erik again for other major work without reservations. First they removed a sunken hot tub from our 16 x 20 sunroom floor and placed it on our rear deck. The hole in the floor was covered including floor joists and sub-flooring. They removed all the existing ceramic tile, placed new underlayment and retiled the floor - all work on all projects was completed by Titan with the exception of moving the hot tub electrical panel from the sun room the the deck(completed by a licensed electrician). They repainted the entire sunroom which was no easy task(19 casement windows, 2 doors, 2 custom windows and vaulted ceiling). Sunroom - A+ | |The other big job was the Master Bath. Here they removed a jetted tub and separate shower. They removed all old ceramic tile - the double vanity and sinks were the only things left in place. Erik framed a new huge custom shower and plumbed in an amazing Kohler shower 'system' with 3 wall sprays, a shower head and a separate wand. The best! His crew installed new underlayment and re-tiled the entire bathroom including floor and walls to the ceiling - the tile work is perfect! New huge Kohler medicine cabinets were installed flush at each sink and new lighting throughout the bathroom. A new American Standard toilet was installed - a major improvement over the 'contractor grade toilet' that frequently required a 'double-flush'...never have double-flushed the new toilet! Extremely happy with the entire job. Erik's crew also repainted the kitchen and a guestroom. Some other minor jobs were completed as well. The price included all materials, some quite premium. The bathroom tile was expensive as were the medicine cabinets and the valve set so accounting for these costs - the price was very competitive. Master Bath - A++! Erik did not provide computer modeling to visualize the project - a service some other contractors provide. Erik needs to improve his method for invoicing a job. The invoices were not the easiest to read but his accounting as the jobs proceeded was accurate. Last note, a large acrylic glass block window in the master bath was regrettably damaged during the bathroom renovation - Erik engaged a respected regional window contractor to replace the window at his cost. The window was replaced in a timely and professional manner. I'm sure this significantly impacted his net profit on this job but he took responsibility and made it right without question - an honorable act that I appreciate greatly. I cannot say enough how pleased we are with Titan and recommend them without reservation.

    Home Solutions Va.
The work performed was excellent and everybody that worked on the job was very courteous and professional. Home Solutions came in and did the work in a timely manner and were cheaper than the other estimates we got. The owner manages the job as well as performs some of the hands on work as well. We were told by several contractors that the bath couldn't be converted due to a lack of space but Home Solutions came up with a great way to utilize the space we have. All his work was inspected by the city inspectors and they all had nothing but great things to say about him. We will definitely be calling Home Solutions the next time we need a contractor.

Crews were on time.  Fixed all problems with the structure done by previous construction by previous home owner.  Overall, construction went great!  Was always available for questions that arose during the process and always was helpful.  Used quality material at a fair price.  Cleaned up job site well.

    RICHARD'S
I was searching for a contractor on line when I found Richard Rosser. I was a bit nervous because I knew nothing about him or any other contractor I searched up.
I am thrilled to endorse his work and him as a person through Angie's List. I hope you can all benefit from my experience.
Richard and his crew gave me a fair estimate for the work and a start date from the very beginning. The work was started on time and every day they worked, they were punctual and always left a clean work site before they left. I have 3 small children, and they were always aware of my kids and aware of their safety. Richard was always open to any questions or suggestions I had. He and his crew were VERY kind and accommodating to my requests.
The city frequently was late with inspections. Richard always went straight down to the city to handle things rather than waiting for them to get back to him. He was very proactive and represented me well.
He was extremely fair when unexpected work/cost came up due to city demands.
The finished product is beautiful. I have many, many compliments on the work he and his crew have done. I have recommended him in the past and will continue to recommend him in the future. In fact, he has been back many times to do smaller jobs for me, and he is always here with a smile.

    TalPol LLC
Everything went smootly, the result was amazing, neat clean , perfectly done. They carted out all the debris, cleaned up after, even changed the filter in the furnace, because all the dust generated sanding. Also we had an emergency after the job was done: leaking from a second floor bathroom/not related/. We called Mark and came as soon as he could. Find the problem right away and replaced the toilet wax seal properly! The previous guy 10 years ago closed the gap between the seal and floor with grout, that's caused the leak!!!. The best ever experience with renovation, I wish I known him 10 years ago. Unfortunately we are loosing Mark because we are moving to VA, I just hope we will find a treasure just like him. I'm recommending to any friend of mind who is in need of an excellent remodeling guy.

It was very good. I was satisfied with the workmanship and price. When they were working, I asked for them to change some things and they allowed me to do so. They were very flexible. I had an impression that since our job was a little smaller than other jobs, they would go to the bigger jobs, and then come back and finish our job. The project was still finished in a reasonable time frame.

    CORBETT'S HOME IMPROVEMENTS
I had always wanted a Sun Room, but didn't want one with all glass ones because I just didn't feel that it would be a quality product because they just snap together. I wanted a room with just plenty of windows built from the grown up. After meeting with several contractors and listening to what they had to say about the position I would have to build the room because of a roof line problem, this was the only contractor that made any sense to me. All the approximately 10 contractors I meet with said they could do what I wanted but it would cost me more. A couple said they could do it knowing full well that down the road it could cause some leaking problem. This contractor told me straight up he wouldn't recommend it. He gave me his advice and I could live with it so I decided to hire him after checking his credentials. All where in order. We set a start date but because we had a delay in 3 of my large window order and he did not want to start on the room until he completed the windows and I agreed. Once the windows came in they completed that project and immediately started on the room. They where at our house every day from 7:30 to 3:45 like clock work. They where very dependable and did great work. Every thing ran pretty smooth except for a mix-up with a dryer vent, where it should be moved to. It was moved to the wrong side of the house and when I found out I told them and they fixed the problem right away. They completed the room addition in about a month and the window in a couple of days because the delay with the 3 large windows. They also fixed a problem they found of some rotting wood on the front of my house when replacing a window for a reasonable amount and covered it with vinyl siding so I would never have to worry about painting that piece of wood again. My neighbors could not believe they had finished so fast. They said those guys where here every day. I am now busy trying to decorate it so we can enjoy our new room.
