ADr. Sekut and his staff have been our vet of choice for the last 4 years for both of our family dogs (Husky & Czech German Shepherd) as well as our cat. They have always been great to us with routine visits but last week we had a real emergency!! Our German Shepherd sliced open his leg somehow and when I saw the blood it looked horrifying. I saw his leg and blood was pouring out of a fresh cut bone deep. I immediately wrapped his wound to stop the bleeding and rushed him to Newport News Animal Hospital at about 7:30pm on a Thursday night a week before Christmas.... to my surprise the vet crew and Dr. Sekut were still there treating animals. They rushed us back and we found out that my pup had lost almost 20% of his blood and the wound was deep. Dr. Sekut and one of his staff acted quickly and stayed there treating my pup until almost midnight that night. They performed a blood transfusion and sealed the wound completely with sutures and I went to bed with my arms around my pup that night thankful that he was still alive because of these amazing people at Newport News Animal Hospital. I will take my animals to Dr. Sekut for as long as he is practicing as a veterinarian. His love for animals, expertise as a vet, and his ability to think on his feet and solve problems is WORTH EVERY PENNEY. My buddy is still alive today because we have the best vet in town. Thank you Dr. Sekut!

AWe were referred to Dr. Dirmeyer at Salty Paws when our senior dog who has cancer needed a dental procedure. The staff is amazing. We were greeted with a smile and promptly seen. Dr. Dirmeyer put us at ease and went above and beyond to ensure the safety of our precious little "Jelly". We felt like family rather than clients and were very comfortable leaving our beloved dog in their care. Jelly had fantastic care and her dental surgery went very well. I highly recommend using this practice for all of your veterinary needs. We live nearly an hour away and will travel to follow with this clinic. They are exceptional in every way!

CA highly qualified veterinary staff with a beautifully laid out facility. Unfortunately their customer service has severely deteriorated in recent months. It is not unusual to have a confirmed appointment and sit in the waiting room for 30 minutes or more, without explanation. A common courtesy would be to explain the reason for the delay after 10 minutes - never happens. I brought 2 rescues in as new clients. They had their vaccination records. Twenty five minutes later the admin staff was still entering 10 data points into their system and they will not tell the Vet you are ready until they have finished. It takes the Vet 20 seconds to review a paper copy. I will say they do perk up when you tell them you're leaving. My advice is if you have a lot of time on your hands this is the place for you - just bring a good book - like War and Peace.

AI am overly happy by how great the service was. I brought in both of my babies for the first time this past Saturday. Everyone was friendly and the young lady that did my girl was outstanding. My girl is pregnant and she was so gentle and loving with her, she even massaged her face and took extra time on her all around. There was a fella that did my boy and he was just as good. My babies left there smiling it was a great experience. They were busy which was expected especially for a Saturday the service was still outstanding.

FI dropped my 6 y/o GSD off to get an ear hematoma drained at 7am on 11/23. I was quoted just under $800. I signed papers asking that they call me before doing additional procedures. I was told she would probably be ready by 4pm. I had not gotten a phone call by the time I got off work, so I called around 330pm. I was told that they were working on my dog now, and she should be ready by 445pm (why was she just now being worked on?) I showed up at 445pm and called, eventually the tech I spoke to came out and said when I called they were actually checking on my dog. She had been operated on around 1pm, but she was too groggy to go home, the vet wanted to keep her overnight, and the vet would call me later after they closed to tell me how it went. I was told to come in at 830am 11/24 to pick my dog up. I wasted everyone’s time by driving there when I could have easily been called with an update. The vet never called me with any update, I waited until 9pm before I gave up and realized they had forgotten about me. I showed up at 830am on 11/24 as I was told. I called multiple times during my HOUR wait to pick up my dog, and talked with different techs, it did not seem like they were communicating with each other at all. I asked to pay over the phone and the tech said she would call me back to take payment. Eventually two techs came out with my dog. 1. The one put my dog in the car, then proceeded to pinch my dog’s nose in the joint of the door. 2. I was charged more than what was estimated (well over $800) because of pain management (why was that not included for a surgery already? Why did no one call me to tell me something would be done to add cost?). 3. The tech gave me no updates on when the last time my dog got medication, they never told me whether or not she had eaten, and clearly no one took my dog out to potty that morning because she cried the whole ride home and then proceeded to pee for over a minute as soon as I got her out of the car. What in the world is going on with this place!? I’ve been going here for almost 3 years! Granted, I could have been nicer myself…I certainly was not being a “Karen”. I think I was completely within my rights to be irritated because of the circumstances (charged more, hour long wait, no updates, kept my dog overnight ect). I even apologized for being rude to the tech. I understand being busy, but I don’t understand what is going on with this practice. There is no effective communication going on between techs internally, and certainly not any communication with the patients. I will be requesting my dog’s records after we finish with her post op appointments and will be taking my dog’s health care elsewhere.

FFirst and foremost, i use to take my poodle to this vet 10 years ago. It was a great please. Probably still is for regular vet visits. But i have a new pup and he started having seizures and by instinct i thought to take him there for emergency services. Pretty much charged me 700$ between two visits and told me we don’t know why, it is what it is. Nothing more that we can do but give him meds. I felt dismissed when i tried to get to a reason. I work in the medical field and would never make a patient feel dismissed when trying to understand. We had to go back a month later (yesterday) for seizures. They charged my card $600 for 24 hrs of seizure watch and to start him on a new med. i sent all of his meds including his topical and ingestible flea treatment. I asked about the possibility of these being the cause of his seizure and again i was dismissed saying “I’ve never seen a dog have seizures due to that”. But there are reports of this happening. I feel like my dog was placed in a box and that’s it. So 12 hrs into his seizure watch i get a call to come pick him up because he’s screaming from anxiety. So now i feel like because he was annoying they didn’t want to do what’s best. We get him and one of his ears is like 2 inches shorter. Someone cut my dogs ear and no one could tell me why who where. So now I’m ******. And my card is still charge the full $600 as if he stayed for the full 24hrs. And he’s already had another seizure and hasn’t been outta that place for a full 12 hrs. I dropped him off with one of his meds i was told to continue to give but he wasn’t sent home with it. So now he doesn’t have one of his meds at midnight. So i call and the receptionist refused to let me speak to a doctor to discuss what my options were. Citing that it was an emergency center and the doctor was with emergency patients. She proceeded to talk over me and tried to raise her voice a little. Listen, I’m not in the mood for the BS when I’ve only been spending all of my savings at this place to have no positive outcome. Y’all cut my dogs fur and forget to give me back one of his vital meds and i can’t get a call back from the doc at a 24 hr facility? Not to mention the huge flapping gash they put in his arm mistakenly that took a month to close. Find another emergency vet if ur dog is having seizures. They are just going to say he needs to be watched and we are going to charge you $600 and tell you it’s idiopathic.

FAnimal lovers BEWARE! On July 11, 2018, I accompanied my daughter and her beloved 9 year old Siberian Husky to this clinic. “Isis” was experiencing severe trauma, i.e., tremendous lethargy, inability to stand on her own, and without control of her bodily functions. This gradually worsened over the last couple of days. Dr. Susan E. Gibbs, DVM, immediately ordered x-rays and blood tests. The blood test showed, in the opinion of Dr. Gibbs, that Isis was suffering from severe dehydration and severe anemia, but her main focus was on hip dysplasia, wanting to prescribe muscle relaxants. She then showed us the results of the x-ray and pointed out the organs and the spine. She felt that the liver had a foreign growth above it. She guessed that this might be toxic substances irritating the liver. (The foreign object that she was pointing to was the stomach which was only slightly visible on the x-ray.) She pointed to the kidney and said this was the stomach. “I am at a complete loss as to what Isis’ problem is,” she commented. After pressing the vet for our choices, she said that we should take her to an emergency hospital overnight in order to insert IV’s and hydrate her overnight. After we pressed the vet for more possible reasons for Isis’ current condition, she could not offer any. We questioned, at that point, our frustration over not finding any etiology of the situation, she ‘stormed’ out of the room, muttering, “Any other person would have done the same thing!” She never returned, leaving us helpless. An assistant came in later and was very nice in trying to comfort us. We took Isis to Bay Beach Emergency hospital. After reviewing the blood test results, Dr. Megan Howard, met with us and informed us that Isis was suffering from IMHA, possibly from a cancer in the blood. She gave us our options, including a blood transfusion because all the red blood cells were depleted, but also advised us that the transfusions would be frequent in this situation with IMHA. After much consideration and discussion, my daughter and her family decided to not allow the beloved family dog to suffer any longer and chose euthanasia. How hard that was!! After talking with Dr. Howard about our experience with Dr. Gibbs, she said she was going to call Dr. Gibbs and educate her toward identifying IMHA. Why does a licensed DVM have to be educated to recognize this? Finally, during the visit to Strawbridge Animal Clinic, we had the opportunity to use the restroom. On the way to the restroom, one has to go through the back of the office where they do procedures on animals. Before one takes their animal for a procedure at this clinic, inquire to see where the procedure is performed and the cleanliness of that area. I encourage animal owners to be cautious when taking their animal here.

AJA-Pens Grooming SalonI was a little nervous as this was Murphy's first grooming experience since I had adopted my little Shih Tzu mix only 2 months and 2 weeks earlier. He had not been thoroughly socialized but did GREAT with the dogs they keep at the salon!! He even visited with 4 or 5 of them while waiting for me to pick him up and they all got along so well, so I was thrilled. The cut was excellent and he looked "stinking cute" as the groomer Laura said! I will definitely be taking Murphy back!! This was a great experience all around and I would definitely recommend them to anyone!- Gay Elizabeth B.

APet Care Veterinary HospitalI've dealt with them for years. We lost our dog and got another one and took her in. We wanted to bring her in for a meet and greet with the vet. He gave her the once over and a quick check up. We got some flea stuff and a bunch of other stuff. The cost included visit, treatment and treats. The personal are all real friendly. We spent thousands of dollars on our other dog. They were really good with her. I've been told they charge a little more than other people, but I don't go anywhere else and I feel the price is fair. I think they are very comparable to everyone else. I will continue to use them because they were so good with our other dog.- Phillip A.

APurrocious Styles Feline DesignsLaDean is amazing! My long-haired super-shedder no longer leaves furballs all over my house and my family. My growler no longer has to be sedated in order to be groomed, which is amazing because he always responds badly to sedation. My elder kitty can finally be groomed without getting so stressed out that she is sick for days. We were introduced to soft paws, which lets the cats knead on us without scratching us and saves our furniture and carpets, too. I am so glad I found LaDean, she has seriously increased the quality of life for both my cats and my family.- Celeste S.

APurrocious Styles Feline DesignsI've been taking my large, older, long-haired cat to Purrocious Styles for more than a year now. It has made a huge difference in the cat's quality of life and ours. I am so glad I found Purrocious Styles, and I definitely recommend them to anyone else who has a cat.- Celeste S.

APET SMARTThey've been very good. They're great cost-wise. That's why I keep going back to them. They're pretty good all the way around. They're great, they're nice, they're quick, prices are great. They seem like they care, which is always a good thing when it is with your pets. I've been going through them for awhile and I keep going back. I've tried a mom & pop shop but they're always a little bit too pricey for me. So services and price range and they're very professional, and I've got lots of dogs; they take the time to ask what I want, so yeah, they're great.- sofia b.

AFur Frenzy Pet SpaI give them an A. I use them every couple of months any way. And I do recommend them. Patient! My dog was frightened at the loud hair dryers at other locations and they allowed her to air dry, kept her for an extra hour so that she wouldn't be alarmed. She wet herself when she heard the really noisy hair dryers. So, they worked with her. They were sympathetic. They were caring and understanding. They charge the going rate. It's not particularly cheap or anything.- Arlene M.
