Very pleased with Dr Erickson. She had extensive tests conducted to determine the extent of damage and provided me with options for the care. Her plan of action was to use the least intrusive measures first. I was very pleased with her

Have seen several drs in this group for hip arthritis eval.  Dr Aldridge promotes the most conservative treatements first whereas the others seem to have been willing to go straight to surgery.  I think this group has quality doctors and is certainly the best for the hip surgery.  Dr Aldridge can use a robot to get the leg length almost perfect.

Appointments went well, once I got to the examination room. Waiting is always an issue, usually around 30 minutes and then another 10 or so once inside the examination room. Dr. Fithian is very thorough, and always suggests the most progressive course of action. Office space ample and comfortable with televisions and coffee (thank you) available. Office staff and receptionist professional and friendly. Never had an issue with billing.

Before surgery I requested a different anesthesiologist and was told that it was no problem, I was introduced to a different anesthesiologist that I felt comfortable with. Later after looking at my medical records they didn't switch the anesthesiologist as I was promised, I was sick for days from the meds the first anesthesiologist gave me. Four weeks after surgery the screws from the hip implant came loose making it very difficult to walk. After a doctors visit with Dr. Carter, I explained my pain and problem and he said he didn't know what was wrong and just wanted to prescribe more pain pills. I asked to have some type of scans or tests to see want was wrong but was refused and told to give it more time. Dr. Carter was always rushed and ready to go out the door, at one visit I asked about seeing my x-ray, he said he would be right back, and left the room, but didn't come back, I found him in the hallway, while he was now speaking to another patient. When I asked him about my x-ray he looked a little embarrassed that he was caught in the lie he just told. He tried to show me my x-ray but needed help in using the computer, had to have help from a tech help him. Dr. Carter said my x-ray looked fine, but after consulting with another orthopedic doctor it wasn't. I had to have another revision by another orthopedic surgeon to correct what Dr. Carter had done. My hip is now stable and secure. I would not recommend Dr. Carter for any type of surgery. RUN from this doctor!!!!

I had gone there for a hip surgery, I had never spent less than 2-3 hours waiting time. It takes for ever to see a doctor and when you do, he only spends a few minutes with you and then heads for the door.

After extensive research over several months using online resources as well as friends reports who had a THR by Dr. Carter using AMIS one of whom was a surgeon, I consulted him. I was very favorably impressed by him and his office staff and so scheduled the procedure for about six weeks later. I was very well satisfied with the hospital, Mary Immaculate in Newport News, Va, the nursing staff, the anesthesiologist, etc. I spent one night in the hospital following surgery and was discharged home 23 hours after surgery. Prior to discharge I was taught to use a walker and to climb stairs. I am 83 years old and live alone; so a family member stayed overnight with me for 5 nights and a home health agency provided 3 times weekly physical therapy (PT) for two weeks until my first follow-up appointment with Dr. Carter. I used the walker for one day, a cane for another day and then walked unassisted. I climbed stairs immediately at home. A few days after my 2 week post-op visit with Dr. Carter and with his "blessings", I began 3 times weekly outpatient PT, started to drive and began to walk around the neighborhood. I took an NSAID for a week after surgery and, except for one or two Tylenol tablets, did not require any pain medicine. It is now almost 10 weeks since my surgery; and I am continuing PT for another 2-3 weeks to further strengthen the muscles attached to the operated hip. I am completely functional and pain free. Comparing my recent hip replacement with the one I had 8 years ago which was done by the traditional posterior-lateral approach with an incision 3 times as long and detaching and reattaching the hip muscles (in the AMIS procedure the muscles remain intact during surgery and the hip joint is exposed through a plane between the muscles), I must say that Dr. Carter's method resulted in a significantly more comfortable and more rapid recovery of full function. He pioneered this procedure in Hampton Roads more than 5 years ago and has done more of these surgeries than any orthopedic surgeon in Hampton Roads to date. He and the other members of his group, Hampton Roads Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, who now also do this type of hip replacement surgery have patients from as far away as California and Canada who travel here for this procedure. I am a well satisfied and grateful patient.

They have about 6-7 doctors in that practice. They do a large spectrum of things like shoulders, back, knees and everything. I don't know about the price because the insurance pays for it.

He is pretty accessible. I have actually dealt with his nurse and his assistant and they are positive. I haven't had any problems.
