The nice thing about her is that she can actually operate on you for artificial lenses that you can put in your eye. She does the surgery as well as having excellent people there to help you out and keep track of how your eyes are doing. Everything is very professional there and its pretty quick. She keeps her appointments but you've got to wait a long time. That's the only thing that might be a little distressing. I wait for about 20 minutes but I don't mind waiting because I'm waiting for somebody who is on demand. She also has an optometrist in the same office and they are also very good.

I needed cataract surgery on both eyes.  After initial vision tests, appointments were scheduled, two weeks apart. for the procedure.  Everything went great on both appointments.  No after effects and I can once again read road signs and distinguish traffic light colors.

    Nochimson, Dr Robert M.
He is great, outstanding. I have been using him for years. He is perfectionist. He is has been in business for quite for some time. He takes longer time, crosses his teeth and crosses his eyes in the same place and makes sure so on and so forth.

She is an excellent and thorough physician. I have complete confidence in her as a doctor and can't say enough good about her in that regard. She has an excellent professional bedside manner. She is respectful and thorough in her explanations, and her staff is well trained, as well. The one thing that really bothers me is her wait time. You can expect to spend hours waiting to see her. They charge you $50 for a missed appointment. Sometimes I feel like sending them a bill for the amount of time I sit in the waiting room. It is ridiculous.

My doctors are pretty good. She is nice lady to deal with and she has prescribed my eye problems and diagnosis and everything for the last 15 years or more and I have no problems with her and usually everything goes wonderful. When I get prescriptions and stuff like my glasses they are perfect and work fine and I can see. They are prompt and courteous and very good. She is a good person and friendly. There is no negativity there. The office environment is wonderful. She is always there and I have to be there on time for my appointment and if that's not the case she is ready to accept me when I get in. They take me right in. If I am ahead of time they say they will get me in at such a such time and it's all good.

Somehow, the staff did not do a refraction but rather used the machine readings which ended up being incorrect.  I had to go back to get refracted.  The charges were high.  My insurance paid over $100 and I still have to pay $70 for the eye exam.   The quality of work done at this doctor is usually very high.  Slip ups occur every now and then and I guess I was the one.

Dr. Berckmueller is an excellent physician. I have been seeing him since he started at James River Eye Physicians and he did my cataract surgery. I am diabetic, so I go for an exam every year. Dr. Berckmueller is a diabetic eye specialist as well as an excellent eye surgeon.

Overall it went very well. I have been using this practice for a number of years and Dr. Kitay is the Dr. I see there. It is a well run office. The staff is professional and courteous and Dr. Kitay has always treated me well. I recommend them to anyone who wants quality, professional services and friendly Drs. and staff.

If you have an eye problem involving some kind of macular degeneration, I would recommend him highly. He did an excellent job with the operation he performed on my eye. He gave me lots of counseling in my role in making the operation have a great chance of success. He followed up for about a year afterwards to make sure that things were still right.

Had eye field test done as I had droopy eyelid, which was affecting my vision. The testing seemed to be thorough. I then met with physician, who came in with mask on his lower face. I did not appreciate this, as it made me feel as I wasn't able to meet the doctor. He sketchily went over the procedure for my eyelid and lower lid procedures, but said only insurance would pay for the one eyelid that was affected. I then met with the business office and they could not give me the exact cost that it would cost me over the insurance coverage. They gave me three different figures, and still didn't seem like they could agree on anything. I then went to Plastic Surgery Center of Hampton Roads, who made me feel comfortable, explained the whole procedure, worked with my insurance coverage, and gave me the exact figure for the part that would not be covered by insurance.
