    Ayer Locksmith
Excellent and quick work. He drove from Smithfield and was in Newport News in about 30 minutes. He's obviously very experienced, and it's a pleasure to watch someone solve problems on the fly. An excellent investment of the $100 cost.

    LIGHT'S LOCK-N-KEY
Because he doesn't plan to far ahead and seemed to be busy yesterday, could not schedule an appointment yesterday.  I had to call back this morning to schedule a visit to my mother's house.
He came out promptly, reviewed the situation, and fixed the problem fairly quickly - and did it at reasonable cost.  Asked him a few questions about the work/product which he was able to answer.  He also made some suggestions about door maintenance.  I did help him out some with the door removal to help expedite the work.

    Ayer Locksmith
It was easy to schedule a time that I could be home. When one of my locks did not match up with the others, he explained how and why to me and allowed me to take the time to drive to the hardware store and get a new lock that could be keyed to match my other locks. I would recommend Mr Ayer to anyone, and would call on him again if I need other lock work done.

Excellent. We needed to change the locks and doorknobs anyway so we went ahead as he was there letting us in. He recommended which lock sets to get, waited patiently while I went to home depot to buy them, then he installed them cleaned up any mess he made. Very helpful, understanding and professional. Additionally this was on a Saturday, price was very good considering the amount of time he was here and amount of work on a weekend. The quality of work was excellent as well. We highly recommend.

    Ayer Locksmith
I am very happy to provide all of the details for this job. Mr. Ayer promptly returned my Angie's List message and made an appointment to check out the locks on three doors. Two of the locks were from a company that developed an idea for a lock that could be rekeyed with a blue key. This idea failed as the locks for many people broke and could not be reset. These locks were put on my doors in 2011, three years ago. As soon as Mr. Ayer took the first lock apart, he recognized the brand, knew about the failed idea and he knew that the company could be called upon to send new lock sets free of charge. The call was made. Mr. Ayer patiently waited on line to be connected to a human being who could arrange for the lock replacements. The new locks were sent in the mail.
Upon their arrival, Mr. Ayer came back to my home and made the job of replacing the locks look easy - that is how good he is. One of the lock sets had been installed by a handiman service and was always crocked- slanted to the left. Mr. Ayer made it perfectly straight. Once the two failed lock sets were replaced, he worked on the front door. That lock, which he tightened up on his previous visit was taken apart and examined. It was determined that it could work again if it was pushed in before trying to open the door. I decided I would prefer a new lock set as not everyone using a key to come into the house would remember about the push in trick. Mr. Ayer was prepared with a new lock set for me to purchase at a very fair price. Those locks were installed, new keys were made and every key was tried on both sides of every lock. All worked smoothly and easily.
Mr. Ayer will be returning to work on locks for the french doors.
I want to add that not only was the quality of his work, skill with his tools and knowledge of locks outstanding, his personality is that of a kind, generous person. He brought doughnuts from a favorite doughnut store in a community on the other side of the water. He shared pictures of his son's dog and family plans for birthdays and travel. He made sure the old keys and new keys were kept separate. Mr. Ayers sets a very high standard for himself and he more than meets it.

    Ayer Locksmith
Mr. Ayer was extremely responsive and knowledgeable about locks and home security.  He was professional, on time and easy to work with.  He quickly replaced the door knob and gave me advice about the best way to secure my front door.  He even helped me fix a small problem with another door at no added cost.  I would highly recommend him for any locksmith needs.

    1. Far Below is what happened the day Coffey's did the work.
    • However, several days later I informed by phone of my concern about their too high price for their work.
    • Initially Coffey's indicated that they would take no action regarding my complaint.
    • But later they called all the local Subaru dealers and found that Coffey's had charged me less than 2 of the 3 dealers would have charged me but they did confirm that the one dealer I called would do the job for 50% less than what they charged me (as I stated below).
    • So they refunded me the difference.
    • I am now happy with the way Coffey's responded to and resolved my concern about their price
    • I wish they would have told me in the initial phone call of their intent to call around and let me know the results, I would never have posted the below review on Angie's List.

Coffey's price was over 50% higher than Dealer's price! |I had previously bought a programmable ignition key for my Subaru on-line. I took it to Coffey's for cutting and programming. After the workman cut my key, he asked another man how much he should charge me. The man replied $55. It was too late for me to complain. When I got home, I called the local Subaru dealer and asked how much to program a key that I had bought on-line (I did not mention that I had already gotten the work done else where.) The Subaru dealer said they do the job for $30. This was particularly upsetting to me since I have seen a Coffey's ad stating, Why pay higher dealer prices? . In my case, their price was over 50% higher than the dealer's price.

    Coffey's Lock Shop Inc
The company showed up on time, every time. However, the person had to leave each time and come back because he didn't have everything he needed. I feel that the work was done good, but I had to clean up. They also had to come back because one of the locks was not lined up properly, but this was not really a big issue as they were very accommodating and came back promptly.

Great experience with this company. Showed up at my house within an hour of my phone call, was very punctual, and had everything done within an hour. I don't have a ton of experience with locksmiths, but their prices seemed very reasonable. Would highly recommend them.

    Ayer Locksmith
It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. They were great. I gave it to a neighbor because she locked herself out of her house. They came right out and rekeyed everything. She was really happy with it. They charged her more than $19 because of what she wanted to do because the deal only covered the service fee. The reason for them coming out was to unlock her door and while they were there, she wanted them to rekey them so they did that. So they made her keys. It was still a really good deal. They were very prompt. It just really worked out all the way around. They came from a long distance, they did have to do some traveling but they were incredibly responsive because they were here very quickly. I think that their prices were too scale around here. I have had my locks and it was $70 and it was 1 lock. She told me things that he explained to her, that he went step by step on everything that he was doing and explained to her why it was necessary and so forth. They're very professional and very courteous. They just didn't go in there to change locks, I thought he was a very class actor.
