    Performance Contracting
The complete remodeling of my home in Riverside by Jim Duguay, sole owner of Performance Contracting, was completed about 1 year after a fire in my home December 2012. Most of the work was paid for by our insurance company but approximately 1/3 of the costs were paid by us. This was Jim Duguay's first time remodeling a home paid for by insurance however he was recommended to me by a real estate agent that had been helping me get my house ready for sale prior to the fire. You may be wondering why it took a year to remodel the interior of my home; there were many delays from Amica Insurance and their red tape, from Wells Fargo Mortgage  who held the money and released it in 1/3's after lots of paper work requested, delays from myself having so many choices to make on cabinets, handles, appliances, flooring, lighting etc, and from Jim. Although he delayed some towards the second half of the remodel he was ahead of the game the first half of the remodel and making frequent requests for decisions on cabinetry, appliances, and flooring. I was busy at work and I would make decisions but then change my mind and then change my mind again. Jim then started requesting decisions in writing which I was  more than ok with because this protects me as well as the contractor. I found it difficult to make decisions that would make me happy if we decided not to sell the house and also be appropriate if the home was listed for sale. Initially I  chose several different paint colors which became a cost issue because paint type(flat versus eggshell) and color had not been specified in our original contract. We disputed the extra cost of this for a few weeks and finally agreed to split the extra costs($1400) between us and Jim, although we felt that we should not have been charged extra for this since it was not specified in the contact. After becoming frustrated with the overall delay of the remodel from all sources,  I decided to allow Jim to make choices on our behalf as if we were remodeling to sell the house but still remain within the costs of our contract; Jim seemed to have good ideas on how to prepare a house to sell and was good at keeping costs within budget. He also has a lot of connections with very good subcontractors who work for him such as electricians, plumbers, painters, etc. The subcontractors all seemed to be honest, knowledgeable, thorough and all on the up and up. After we moved back in the house we had a few small issues with paint, cabinetry, and plumbing that were all quickly resolved by Jim and his subcontractors. He also hired a very nice lady named Susan to run the office which helped increase responsiveness.
There was a delay, after completion of repairs, in getting the final money paid by Amica Insurance but held by Wells Fargo to the contractor which created some tension. Overall in the end, we were very happy with the results, and felt that the work completed was more than acceptable, and that no corners were cut.

Overall satisfied with the job; however, the contractor lacked keeping owner advised on requests for information on materials used for the roofing job, when the job was scheduled to begin or when job was completed. After agreeing on (around beginning of Dec) to allow this company to conduct reroofing job, the contractor indicated he had to request a building permit and let me know when it was received to set a start date for the job. The only feedback received was from my renter indicating that the job would start on 16 Dec than again I was notified 18 Dec again by renter indicated the job new roof had been completed.  Instead of replying to owners(my) inquiries, contractor coordinated majority of notification efforts through renter, which  in my book was inappropriate, since I entered into this business agreement with this company and not the renter.  I understand the contractor may have been busy; however, if the contractor is unable to keep customer informed on events involving contracted operation, they need to relook their priorities.

Even though I was satisfied with the job, I would caution projected clients to thoroughly research the material being used and STAY on top of the contractor to know what is going on, since the contactor lacks the ability to keep the proper individuals informed.

Did preform estimates on cost of building a garage  and showed pictures of projects they have built in the past on the internet. Good work but their cost is expensive. I need to compare to other contractors before making a decision. Also city zoning issues were not discussed.

After contacting the insurance company it took two weeks to get an estimate. Although Jay came out within about 24 hours it took him two weeks to give me an estimate with the new cork flooring I wanted installed. Estimate stated it would take a week to complete repairs and could begin within a week, however work didn't begin for 2 months and it took over a month to complete. When I asked Jay about the replaced section of subfloor being a 1/4 inch lower than the rest of the floor, he told me "they were not done and would take care of it, I would never notice it." When they did finish I had a new sag in my floor and counter only where the repairs were done. Jay tried blaming it on the structure of my home and actually argued with me about it. I had to call his manager, Jeff, out to have it resolved. Now that it is complete the floor is nice but I will never use them again because of their carpenters and project manager, Jay Deas!

    Scotts Handyman Service
He did the job he said he would do, but it was not the reason for the leak. He said he would fix the mailbox that was knocked over by a co-worker when leaving our residence but would not answer our calls after that time.
He is a very good contractor, but I do not feel he is reliable or has the clients best interest as priority.

We are extremely pleased with the work done by Monarch Builders. Tony, Tommy and John were professional and performed the work to our specific requests. When we were unsure of how we wanted our dormers to look, they provided great suggestions and did one as an example for us to review before they proceeded. The end product were great looking dormers thanks to their great suggestions. Whenever we had questions or saw something that needed to be addressed, they were always quick to answer and address any concerns. They were even able to get me back into my home after I mistakenly locked myself out. Working with Monarch was a great experience.

I contacted the company to try to get an estimate. Telephone went to a home residence, not a business. Response was highly unprofessional; company did not seem interested in new customers. If I have to question if I reached the actual company I was trying to call, I do not consider that a pleasant or productive experience.

The builder was very helpful in going through all the options before we chose everything we wanted in our home. Everything was done well and we have had no reason to call the warranty department. They came out recently for the final inspection and we are very happy with our home.

He contacted me and was scheduled to review my job within 2 days and get back with me. It has been over a week and I have received no response. Because of this I would not recommend this company.

Great. The job was completed on time, and the work was precision and craftsmanlike. Erik Quam is highly responsive, and you can't do any better for quality.
