Carpet Installation reviews in Newport News

The company was very flexible in scheduling and scope of work. The team was punctual and VERY responsive to inquiries. The quality of work was excellent, and their disposition was professional and friendly. The team went above and beyond the original scope of work to fix an issue identified through conversation, and asked for no additional money.

Michael Horsman, the owner, is a professional who takes great pride in his work and the impression he loves you of his business. We had talked before he came out and I decided to also get the carpet cleaned. When Mike and he surveyed what needed to be done a went to work stretching the carpet. When he finished that part, he asked me to vacuum the carpet again. As I started, he noticed that my vacuum's suction was not upto par. He took it apart and cleaned it out. He also count into detail about how best to adust to vacuum to clean the carpet better. After he put it back together I could definately tell the difference is how it cleaned. Mike went on to clean the carpet. It had been quite dirty and he did a great job. The difference was amazing.

to,Rusty and Dave arrived right at 8:00 am with a full truck.  We had painted the living room and dining room recently, so both rooms were totally empty except for the basic furniture.  They moved all the furniture into the great room except the dining room table, which wouldn?t fit through the door, even with the extra leaf removed. They didn?t want to take it apart if they didn?t have to, so they left it in a corner.
Dave started on the carpet, Rusty on the kitchen.  Dave pulled up all the existing carpet and tack strip/staples in both living room and dining room.  As mentioned above, both rooms had been recently painted, including trim work.  That showed after all the carpet was pulled up; a line of carpet tuff all along the bottom of the trim had to be scraped off. And Dave did so without damaging the new paint.
Rusty and Dave worked very well together.  They both knew their job, they didn?t talk a lot, and they helped the other as needed.
Rusty pulled up the carpet in the kitchen, put down a ¼ inch flooring of wood, filled all the cracks and seams in the wood with something that required a huge fan to dry, and then glued down the vinyl flooring. The kitchen is an odd shape, with odd trim corners and angles, but Rusty did a good job making the quarter round trim work with what we have, even staining the cut edges.
The three stairs to the laundry room were a bit tricky, as Dave had to work around a water-heater, but they look great, and in the upstairs bedroom, you can?t tell where Rusty patched the carpet.
I am VERY happy with Jack?s carpet and would recommend them to anyone without reservation.

The team of Mike and Joe arrived on schedule and promptly got to work. They checked all of the existing tack strips and replaced those that needed replacing. They also installed additional nails into the existing tack strips to ensure they were secure. Some of the house had previously been carpeted, but not all areas. They then installed carpet edging inside of the closets where the carpet was to be terminated and new strips in those areas that didn't have any. They then swept the floor to ensure nothing would be under the padding and then commenced to install the padding. Once the padding was installed, they installed the carpet. The installation went very smooth and looks wonderful. I was really impressed by Mike and Joe. While doing the installation, they rarely spoke to each other, it was as if they both knew what the other was thinking and when one needed something (tool, etc.) or something trimmed, the other had it ready to go. They were very meticulous and I would recommend them to others.

This was an awful experience. Note: My family moved out of the house completely days before Michael came to clean the carpet.
The guy showed up between 11 and 2 as he said. His son treated the carpet (we have 2 dogs), (his son) steam cleaned the carpet and Michael replaced a patch of damaged carpet in one of the rooms.  For all of this he charged $484.00 which was much higher than the quote (in his defense and only this 1 time, we did not get a quote in advance for the replacement of the small piece of carpet).
The carpet cleaning: He quoted us $179 with $20 per room for pet treatment. It was our understanding that this cost included all rooms and stairs. On the day of the cleaning, he charged an extra $20.00 to clean the stairs.
The next day, my husband did a walk-thru with the landlords and noticed some stains on the carpet.  Michael was called to ask if he would come and touch up the carpet.  My husband was told that he would come back if the spots were already there and not new. Otherwise, he would come back and charge us. This all happened the day after the carpets were cleaned. Michael knew we were not living there as he saw the house was completely vacant and was told that we had built a new house and moved into it.
Not to mention -- Michael spoke with the homeowners who also asked if he would come back and touch up the spots and maybe do a better job. His response to them was to tell them that we had dog feces all throughout the whole house.  Not only is this a blatant lie, but the fact that he would tell it to anyone is beyond upsetting (I can't say how it really makes me feel).
After inspecting the house, it was found that the stairs were never done - even though we paid the extra $20.00.  Michael was called and asked to come and redo the stairs.  He said that he was never paid for it and refused to come do the stairs.  It is on the receipt and we paid for this service --- service never received.
In regards to the replacement of the damaged carpet.... he was given a piece of (extra) carpet from the garage. Instead of using this, Michael actually cut a piece of carpet from one of the closets and charged $125.00 to do so. He never asked if it was ok to cut from a closet nor did he use the (extra) carpet piece that was provided.
So in all, we paid $484.00 for a horrible job... and he refused to come back and touch up anything, gave excuses and lied to the homeowners.
I would NEVER recommend this company.

In response to the comments posted by this horrible company:

It is a shame that you resort to telling lies instead of providing quality service.  As I sent to Angie's List Disputes:

I have only lived there less than 1 year (I can provide proof) and our dogs NEVER defecated nor urinated in the house!! Nor was this horrible man ever told that! I NEVER even met this guy so I don't know how he thought I did a walk through with him. Also, we had a cleaning service come in the day before who did vacuum the whole house AND I HAVE PROOF! Unlike Carpet Medic, the cleaning service did an AWESOME job.  Your comment - Carpet Medic - is crap! The carpet was not destroyed. Please feel free to call the landlords. I will happily give you their number again if you need it. And yes, the carpets had been cleaned about 6 months ago. Again, have proof of that as well.*******************
My husband called this guy to talk to him about the situation.  The only thing he wanted to do was argue and talk over him. I was listening to the whole conversation. Interesting how you changed your story multiple times over the phone and it doesn't even match the crap you say in your response.
So, yes, we will continue to file complaints where ever we can. Next step - legal action against you.

They have alternative choices. We just had an idea about what kind of rug we're going to buy and they helped us out. They have knowledgeable salesmen and great products. We chose to go ahead and take the rug with us.

Kim came out and took measurements of the kitchen. There was to be no major changes in layout other than the addition of one more cabinet upper and lower. I was told that I could get new cabinets for under 10K and there was a 1k discount and free sink thrown into the offer. When we went to review the layout and select the style we liked the cost for everything was close to 17k with average granite. This was way over our budget and so we did not proceed.

I also tried to have Lowes install new tile flooring in my kitchen and so the contractor came out and said that Lowes will not remove existing glued down vinyl flooring and the gentleman from Humps did not ever quote me a price but said for floor removal would run around 1500.

Michael was excellent. Spoke to him on Monday and had an appointment on Thursday. Work that was done was excellent. Michael offered many other advice on maintaining my carpet. He offered other services without pressure. Highly recommend his services and will schedule another appointment to service 4 additional rooms plus my sofa (s).

When I went in to the store to look for the carpet, I believe he's the owner, I can't remember his name though, he's very friendly and he walked me through the steps and basic carpet selection and what to look for. Eastern Floor Covering came out right away and did an estimate for me, called me back the same day with the complete estimate. I went in again to see what he had chosen for me as a carpet selection. I chose an upgrade from what he had chose but once I chose a different carpet, he found something that would be a little more in my price range because it was kind of expensive and he explained to me the policy of the carpet, the features and all of that which was very good. The installation guy were good. There were 5 guys who were in and out of here. They did it very quickly, it probably took them no more than 3 hours to pull up carpet, remove it and replace all my carpet. The only downside if they kind of left a mess because I didn't realize that I had to remove things from my closet floors. Other than that, I love their services and I will purchase from them again. I really like the guy who helped in the store, how helpful he was.

Professional, punctual. Called afterwards to see if all went well. Needed an area fastened down...response and repair was fast and cheerful. Some seams noted in one house...offered to come and trim them. I haven't scheduled tat yet but will get back with review after. It's on the expensive house, unacceptable as is.
