    Several weeks ago my son had his vehicle towed to Babcock's in order to have the engine replaced. The shop took a few days to make sure that this was a correct diagnosis. When the final decision was made to replace the engine, Mr. Babcock took a few more days, and each day that my son called he was told that Babcock's was searching for an engine. Mr. Babcock did not call to ask if we wanted a used, junk-yard or a remanufactured engine. After almost a week of Babcock's engine and quot;searchand quot;, I contacted two places and found an engine within 15 minutes. We chose to purchase a remanufactured engine with a 3 yr/100,000 mile warranty as opposed to a used, junk-yard engine with more miles than the original engine and no warranty. Mr. Babcock did not appear happy over our decision to purchase a remanufactured engine with a warranty and he told us that his experiences with these engines was not good. He thought we should purchase a used, junk-yard engine. We also opted to get a new water pump and replace all the belts. We order those parts from a local parts company, and brought the items to Babcock's. The engine was delivered directly to Babcock's and then it took another week or so to get the engine in.
    Even though we provided a VIN number and other information for the water pump, Babcock's claimed it was the wrong water pump. Mr. Babcock did not call to say that the water pump was not correct, did not ask if we could get it exchanged - he just decided to put the old water pump back in without asking. When the car was ready (cost about $1300) and we picked it up, my son drove it for about an hour when the power steering starting acting up. The power steering fluid had leaked completely out. So, back to Babcock's went the vehicle. After a day, Mr. Babcock told my son that there was a crack in the line and it would need to be replaced. Mr. Babcock ordered the part and it took 2 days to arrive. As my son's frustration level began to rise, he called Mr. Babcock about the repair. Mr. Babcock admitted to my son that the line could have been cracked when the engine was replaced because the line was fine before this. My son asked for the old line in order to look it over. Tonight, my son was able to pick up the car and the old power steering line. My son was told that the power steering line was brittle and Babcock's charged my son $120 for replacing the power steering line. Once home, the power steering line was closely inspected by my husband, a former auto mechanic. The line was cracked about 1-1/2and quot; below the area where it was clamped and was not at all brittle. The line could be manipulated without coming apart. When my husband called Mr. Babcock to discuss the power steering line, letting Mr. Babcock know that the line was not brittle, Mr. Babcock became defensive and was not willing to admit any culpability in the situation. We were unhappy with the lack of communication, the time in which it took to do the job of finding and replacing the engine and then the power steering line mishap. We will not be using Babcock's again and definitely would not recommend this auto shop to anyone.

    I had just relocated here and did not know where to take my car for honest and reasonable service, as I have been ripped off before.  I checked Angie's list and found Lou's. It is a family owned and operated company.  Very friendly and very much on the ball.  He checked the car and told me what they had found.  Gave me a price and let me decide if I wanted to proceed. He answered all my questions and did not act like I was an imposition. They ordered the parts immediately, and got delivered with in 15-20 minutes, and they fixed the car right away. Then even took it for a spin to make sure there were no other problems and that the parts they replaced were working properly. I highly reconmed Lou's. Automotive Service.
