I arrived a few minutes early for my appointment and got my registration details done with the staff. Then I waited around 50 minutes after my appointment time before being called back to the exam room. I almost left. The doctor came in shortly thereafter, examined me and had me xrayed. He found DDD and prescribed PT. The practice called me later to set up PT at their facility but I declined and used Pivot PT as they are very near me and I've used them before.

Hip replacement--surgery went very smoothly and went home within 3 days having learned to climb stairs, etc. There was a bad reaction to the general anesthetics used during surgery--severe shaking and some hallucinations including wanting to remove tubes, etc. The surgery itself seemed fine. About 4 - 6 months after the surgery there was significant trouble with bursitis, but the staff at West End worked on this by physical therapy to strengthen the IT band and with 3 shots into the bursa. I wished I had been forewarned that this might be a side effect and wondered if the replacement had been measured accurately enough and might be a different size from the original bone.

Lumbar spinal fusion--excellent results with leg pain and walking difficulty quickly going away. Again there was a bad reaction to anesthetics (different ones from the hip surgery) with hallucinations and sleeplessness. A chronic heart condition necessitated being in the hospital an extra day and on the cardiac floor for one day and night. Dr. Scioscia was excellent in his attentiveness, explanations, overall care. Followup was equally well done.

Went well and was able to hold off for awhile. I will be going back to Dr. Kim when I am ready for the procedure.
