Fireplace Repair reviews in Midlothian

Real People ~ Real Reviews ~ Real Results

  • I hesitated to write this review, because I don't want people to take advantage of this gentleman's helpful nature. However, I decided to write it, because I really want to share what a wonderful experience I had with him and I think in the end, it will benefit his business rather than hurt it. I called London Sweeps a couple weeks before Christmas of 2017. I had turned my gas pilot light off for the first time in four years, to save energy costs over the summer, and I could not get the flame to come back on. I had read numerous articles on troubleshooting and had watched several youtube videos. I took the dang thing apart, glass, logs and all, and tried to fix it myself. I sprayed compressed air into the pilot hole among other various tips I learned online. Nothing. When I called London Sweeps, the gentleman (I refer to him as "the gentleman" because I've lost my notes with his name) answered, but informed me he was on a job and with a customer and would call me back. He did as he said, and when I explained my problem to him, he told me he was so busy that he wouldn't be able to get out to my house until after the holidays. I told him I had hoped to have the fireplace working for Christmas gatherings, but I understood and would accept his earliest appointment. He so kindly offered to try to walk me through the problem on the phone and picked a day and time that would work for the both of us. I called several days later, on the agreed upon time, and the gentleman took my call as promised, even though he was at another customer's home. He spent 25 patient minutes with me, walking me through many steps and troubleshooting. He never once gave up and tried to end the call or acted impatient. In the end, he solved my problem and my fireplace came on. He was very knowledgeable and didn't ask for a penny from me for his time. Again, I don't want to encourage people using his services for free, by sharing this, but he absolutely came across as an honest, upstanding guy who knew his business.

  • The staff was great. We hired them for an inspection and clean on our newly purchased house. They arrived, inspected everything and cleaned it out! It was pretty clean so they adjusted our price and then said we needed a mesh wire on the cap because that is how the two dead squirrels got in. They were great and put it all on. Came in under quote and everything was great! Will totally use them again!

  • Technician came out and I gave him a description of the problem, He looked at the fireplace, took a couple of logs out and looked at the pilot. Tried to light the pilot with the fireplace igniter. I told him that didn't work, but lighting it with a lighter does work. Instead of cleaning the fireplace, which the Angie's List special called for, the technician recommended that I replace the fireplace with a new log set. He said that it was starting to rust (10 years old) and that finding parts for is would be next to impossible to repair the thermocoupler. He said putting a new log set in would be between $1,300 and $1,500. I decided before spending that amount of money that I would do some more research. I purchased some compressed air, took out ALL the logs, cleaned the areas around the log set, including the pilot assembly per the instructions in the manual (which is what I paid Guirkin to do in the first place), and reassembled the fireplace. Since then, the fireplace has worked great! Bottom line, it seems like Guirkin is more about selling more services/products than actually performing the work you pay then to do through "deals" on Angie's List.

  • Neil was extremely professional. He arrived at the agreed to time. Informed me of what his work would be and how long it would take. He performed his tasks efficiently and provided before / after photographs to document his work. Very thorough. Also kept his work area very clean. I would highly recommend Neil. In fact, while Neil was doing this work, I also had a carpet contractor at my house.  That contractor inquired of Neil's service to which I provided an on-site recommendation. Bottom line, more contractors should be like Neil, in my opinion, he is a benchmark for customer service.

  • The provider made time in a very tight schedule to check our chimney before the snow storm hit.  We had just moved in and did not know if the fireplace was safe to use.  With an extreme forecast and the potential to lose heat and power, we really needed to be able to use the fireplace.  London Sweeps came the same day, made a minor repair to make the fireplace safe, and recommended a future cleaning.  We were very appreciative of the prompt service and detailed advice on using the fireplace.

  • Some friends of ours had Woodfin install gas logs the previous year and were very happy with the service they provided, so we called them too.  The salesman came to our house, measured both fireplaces, explained what would be required for the job and answered all our questions.  The price was about what we had expected, so we placed the order.

The plumbers came first to install the gas lines and place the gas tank.  The workers were down to business, placed tarps, etc., around our floors to reduce the dust and mess, and cleaned up after themselves when they were done.

Next, the installers came with the actual log sets.  Again, they got right down to business, protecting our floors and carpeting, and cleaned up after themselves.  Then they took the time to fully explain the logs to us, how to use them, light the pilots, etc., answer all our questions and address/correct any issues we had.

Very happy with the customer service provided by all parties involved.  Would definitely recommend them.

  • When Mike came to see my home and give me an estimate, He told me he'd send a contract in the mail. I gave him a deposit. I never could get a contract or anything in writing. I called a couple of times asking for one. At the time two things he told me were that they would take care of. Putting a lattice fence around the propane tank, and that I may need a new pan on the top of the chimney. They came two weeks later to do the work on 12-2. The installer told me I should replace the pan at the top of the chimney. Said he'd have to get back to me with a price. Well they keep putting me off on both items. They've never replaced the pan or put up the fencing. When I call, someone always has to get back with me. The last time a few weeks ago, they sent a guy to do the fence, He gets here and says he doesn't do fences. Someone will get back to me. Well that hasn't happened. I have mixed feelings about this company. I love the product. I suggest if you want to use them, make sure you get everything in writing before you give them a deposit, and don't give them the balance til they really finish.

  • I was VERY impressed with Log Doctor. They were able to get me on their schedule pretty fast (next day) and although Gordon (the tech) showed up about an hour after the time window I was given (I understand sometimes these call can go long so no biggie), I could not have been more happy with the overall experience. Gordon was professional, polite and just overall had a fantastic attitude. He was able to rapidly diagnose and fix the issue I was having and gave me some steps to take should the problem arise again. This is the second gas fireplace company I have tried and the difference is night and day - great company!

  • Because of poor construction design by my builder, Guirkin had problems running the line from the meter to under the house but came up with an acceptable option. They were always punctual, courteous, considerate and explained what they were doing. I enjoy working with service personnel who take the time to make sure I understand everything and Guirkin delivered on that expectation.

  • Was able to locate problem and knew what he was doing. Had to order a new fan which has not been replaced yet. This is the third time that I have had people come out but the Log Doctor was the only one that found the problem Very happy to have the fireplace work after two years.
