Eye Care reviews in Midlothian

    Robinson, Dr. Robie H.
I have been using Dr. Robinson for over 20 years myself and my daughter about 5 years. I had the distinct pleasure of being Dr. Robinsons most Myopic patient for many years so he has had his challenges with my care. I have worked in the pre-hospital EMS arena for over 35 years. During that career I have worked with and know a lot of docs. Dr. Robinson is one of my all time favorites. His knowledge is vast and current. His network of associates and specialists is great. His recommendations are always right on the money. His exams are very through. I trust him with my eyes completely! I won't make that statement about many physicians I've met or worked with in my career so that is huge.
If you need anything in routine eye care Dr. Robinson is your guy.

    Robinson, Dr. Roxann L.
My experience has been fantastic. They're getting all these new equipment so they can give you such great care on your eye if you have any problems as you get older. They have ways to test my peripheral vision and to check on my optic nerves and any granules or nodules in your eye. They can tell me exactly what's happening within my eye and with the optic nerves.

Not good and not bad. The long wait time is the only thing that I thought that they can improve on. I would like a better explanation of my condition. All the new office facilities are nice. Availability is poor.

    Ladd, Dr. Byron S.
He's a retinal specialist. He listens to the patient, he's very reassuring, he's got good bedside manner and very interested in what you're saying. The staff is very good, very knowledgeable and very welcoming.

I was seen for my exam promptly as scheduled.  During the exam, they asked if I wanted an extra charge ($30) to have my retinas photographed for review.  They suggested this was helpful for screening for certain issues.  They reviewed the photos with me on a monitor in the exam room.
They were very helpful helping me choose my frames.  I gave them a few parameters - low profile, etc - and Greg came back with 3 frames - representing cheap, middle, and expensive.   He made it very easy for me, and also walked through all of the lens options, patiently answering all my questions.
My glasses were delivered in about a week.  After wearing them a few days I felt that the prescription was a little off in my right eye.  I called them and they asked me to come back for a re-exam, no problem.  They happily adjusted the prescription and ordered a new lens for no additional cost.
Very professional and welcoming staff, all around.

I am now over 40 and require bifocals. I have found adjusting to bifocals very difficult. My previous doctor essentiall told me that I was aging and that I sould just get over it and adjust. So I began looking for a new eye doctor. I was attracted to The Eye Place because they advertise that they are environmentall conscious. Once I meet the doctors and staff, I became a regular client. Everyone is friendly and helpful. Both the doctors and the glasses fitting staff made it a priority to help me select glasses that minimuzed my issues with bifocals, When I damaged my glasses slightly, they fixed them quickly and at no charge. I hightly recommentd The Eye Place.

It is important to note that my problem  with this place is NOT with the doctors doing the exam. My wife has had good experience with Dr. Spittle and I have good experience with Dr. Mittman. BUT ....
The other side of the Eye Place is where you are fitted for glasses, etc. This started off OK on 1/30/2013. I was fitted for new glasses and frames and the plan was to use my existing sunglasses frame for the new lenses. I returned 2/21; the glasses were fine. However they broke the frames (only a year old) for the sunglasses. I was sort of stunned because a year before they also broke my wife's glasses! (At that time they were very apologetic and gave us a credit.) What are the odds!
I picked out a new frame (no charge) and this was sent off to the lab.
I returned on 3/14 ... the prescription was flawed on one lens, couldn't use them. They were sent off again! I returned on 4/18, the lenses had come in, they decided to do the tinting on site and came up with the wrong tint AND scratched one lens. This time they decided to have the lab do the tinting.
I returned on 5/6 ... the sunglasses were fine.
I have been wearing glasses for some 50+ years and have never had anything like these problems.
The staff were at all times helpful, nice, courteous and apologetic. Most of the problems MAY have been attributable to the outside lab that makes the glasses. But since I don't decide who they use to make the glasses, as a customer I don't distinguish between them and the lab. Maybe they need to use a different lab.
Bottom line: I WILL use the Eye Place for eye exams. I will NOT get glasses made there.

Staff and Dr. McGarry were very professional, the process of acquiring my contacts went well. They quoted a price for contacts that was significantly higher than I had seen online so I told them I would prefer to buy elsewhere, they asked for the lowest price I found and agreed to match it. Contact prescriptions expire after one year so they force you to go back for new contacts.
They don't take insurance so you have to submit all claims yourself. They are quite high priced compared to all other optometrists that I've seen--it is clear they value staff and decor.

    Roper, Dr. Barry E.
Dr. Roper is very thorough and knowledgeable. He also gives complete explanations of what is going on with one's eyes and what may need to be done in the future. In addition he is very personable. I have been seeing him for over 10 years.

    Robinson, Dr. Roxann L.
Her equipment is state of the art and the staff is friendly enough. Dr. Robinson works at the General Assembly, so her appointments are based on the times when she is not employed there but this was not a problem for me. She also has a specialist who worked with me inidiviually for almost an hour trying various contact lenses until I felt comfortable with the lens and was able to see clearly with it. Dr. Robinson is very friendly and has great conversation. I will definitely go back to her again.
