Craigs online system for scheduling a quote is the best Ive seen for any home contractor. And in addition to being highly qualified and very experienced, Craig is a man of rare integrity. He began his assessment of my retaining-wall project by asking about my goals for replacing the wall. After a brief conversation, he said that with a few minor repairs (which I could do myself or have a small contractor do for me), the wall would probably last another 5 yr. He recommended that I not spend the $20,000 - $30,000 to replace the wall, since theres no way Id get my money back if I sell my home in the next 1 - 5 yr. In 45+ yr. of dealing with home repairs, I've never before had a contractor give up a substantial amount--let alone $20,000 plus--because his taking on the project would not be in my best interest. In addition to recommending against my wall project, he recommended delaying my grass planting project until fall, when the new grass would not be scorched by high summer temperatures. Id recommend that those seeking an honest, very competent contractor for a landscaping or hardscaping project give him a call.

The proposal given called for grading, sod and landscaping around the edge my existing patio as well as the construction of a step from the patio. My back yard had sloping however through the consultation meeting and learning that we have a French drain, Craig was confident they could regrade to flatten out some of my problem areas. The grading ended up never happening and I was given a refund for the dirt needed for the grading but it was still a driving factor on why I needed the project performed. In hindsight, if I knew grading wasn't going to happen I wouldn't have chosen to go with the project so while receiving a refund for the dirt was nice, I'm still disappointed. GSU ended up "smoothing out" the existing dirt around the edge and laying sod over top of it while planting 6 shrubs with mulch laid over top. It looks fine but it definitely didn't blow me away for the price I paid. Issues I've noticed with the craftsmanship: - The mulch bed does not have a crisp edge on them and the mulch leaks into the grass (photo attached). - The sod used was also not that high of quality and already had dry grass within it. I've been watering it every day and it struggling to stay. We'll see what happens (photo attached). I can tell they wanted to do the right thing and make things right but they also seemed to care more about making money than making a quality product. I've seen better craftsmanship in landscaping at a better price.

I worked with Ric and it couldn't have gone better. Ric was flexible to our budget and created a patio design that far exceeded our expectations. It starts out with a free on site consultation where Ric and I discuss the overall goals of the project. Ric takes the goals and develops a rendering of the design he has in mind. We were able to make some minor adjustments to his design that made it more budget friendly and he was great through the whole process. During the construction phase, his team was amazing. They took 2 days to finish the patio and provided utmost professionalism while producing great craftsmanship. I've already recommended Dominion to friends and family and will continue to do so.

If you want quality work completed by a professional for a reasonable price. This is the company to use. I have used All About Lawns twice. And both times everything was as promised and as scheduled. Thank you Shaun for doing such a great job.

A+ is does not give Shaun and his crew enough credit. I sent a message early one morning about getting an estimate. He called and came out the same day. The estimate was provides earlier than promised with different options at different price points. Shaun was patient and answered all of my questions to make sure I knew what the final product would be and that I would be happy with the result. Work was started as scheduled and completed within one day. The whole crew was polite and professional. I couldn't be happier.

This was a special offer for "45% off patio installation" -- for the exact size I wanted. Because I had already secured two estimates, I knew it really was a great deal, but I was worried about getting half-rate service because of the half-rate offer...and because the company was listed as being in Chesapeake but servicing the Greater Richmond area. In short, I had NOTHING to worry about. They have a Richmond area crew and service manager, Ric, who was on-time, very professional and polite, suggested several options and offered to take care of a few minor things -- e.g., capping off sprinkler heads -- to help the installation process go smoothly. He never treated me as if I was getting discounted service because I got a discounted price. In fact, he was able to move the job up a few days to avoid running too close to Thanksgiving. Most importantly, the crew did a great job overall, including a phenomenal job with clean-up...it looked as though they were never there! They even used extra dirt to fill-in and smooth a few spots in my yard that were uneven or where my dog had begun digging. holes.

The pavers were placed but he has yet to bring the load of gravel to finish it off. He promised it would be completed by June 17, 2016. It is now July 16th and he has not returned any of our calls or email.

I worked with Rick through several iterations of the plan for the patio until we got it just right. He was very helpful and easy to work with. The work was done quickly and efficiently, once we had the plan finalized. I am very pleased with the work and love my new patio!

David presented himself as a master mason. I'm sure he may be good as a brick mason, but he also presented himself as someone who knew how to do paver walks. He brought his crew, and began the work. I'm sure there are many ways to do pavers, but one thing I have read in every case is that a good base is needed. My wife asked about the base and was told that that would take time! He did tamp the ground well, and put down approximately 2" of granite dust (great stuff.) Rather than dig out a base, he took some old bricks and pavers we had (used with our permission) and laid them down first in mortar as a base, He was also putting the border pavers in mortar. As his crew began laying down the pavers, We noticed that they weren't straight, nor level. The man putting down the pavers in the center of the walk was trying to level them by eye, tapping the pavers with his with his rubber mallet as he went along, rather that leveling the sand first and just laying them down gently. The pavers are keyed so they will be put down in the right direction, insuring straight lines. The crew were acting as if hey had never seen a paving brick. The next day when they came, we pointed out the un-level  un un-straight lines. He charged us over $1000 that we were foolish enough to pay for the work he had done. I look back and realized never should have paid for the shoddy work that was done. After we dismissed him and his crew, we ended up removing all that he had done, put down and tamped a good 6" base, then put down the granite dust, and did the work ourselves. He wasted about 50 bricks that are covered or stained with mortar.

From the moment I received the proposal, I knew that these guys were professionals.  GSU uses something equivalent to AutoCAD for their designs whereas their competition uses pencil and paper.  It made the competition look like amateurs.  During the proposal process, GSU didn't try to win my business by telling me what I wanted to hear - they told me what I needed to hear.  Specifically, they told me that I needed a proper drainage system in order to get the water from the roof and downspout away from my alternative septic system because my land was "flat as a pancake".  The competition had other grandiose ideas that sounded good but were not practical.  When the designs and proposals came in, the GSU design was the most elegant and well thought out.  Throughout the entire project, I really enjoyed working with these guys.  From soup to nuts, they did an excellent job.
