Does a Painting Estimate Really Matter?

    Short Pump Painters
Let's start from the beginning. First, I requested an estimate late on a Friday evening. They were quick to accommodate me and met me first thing the next morning. The owner of the company was super professional, took time to explain every aspect of the service. He had a video, which at first I was eager to skip over, but, after watching it, I have to admit it really gave way more insight into the whole process and answered questions I wasn't even aware I had. He pointed out several things specific to my type of cabinetry and showed me pics of his previous jobs that were similar so that I had clear expectations. I was on a tight timeline, he was already very booked, however found the time to get the work done when I needed it. Thaigo worked with me on choosing the paint color and sheen and even bought a sample of the paint I chose to bring it over and make sure I liked it before they did the first coats. The prep work they did was unbelievable, it must've taken 8 hours with two guys, when they were done, everything was covered, when we saw what went into the prep we realized we'd never be able to do that level of work on our own. I think it was 6-7 coats that went on by the finish. Through the entire process the owner was always immediately available for communication and really put my mind at ease. In the end, the cabinets turned out beautifully, the finish made the cabinets look brand new. Their professionalism was very impressive, their proof of insurance is sent to you along with their proposal. The contract was crazy detailed and along with the above-and-beyond customer service persuaded me to choose this company. I felt we were working with true professionals dedicated to doing a stand up job. I would recommend this company and look forward to working with them in the future.

    Hetrick Painting Inc
Fantastic! They painted roofing, walls and trim on about 2000+ sq/ft house. Mr. Hetrick was easily contacted to coordinate the painting and finishing of the project. His workers were very polite and took pride at ensuring the quality met my satisfaction. I only needed a few touch ups and this was coordinated well with Mr. Hetrick and the workers. Mr. Hetrick did a final walk through to ensure we were pleased with the work. I will use Hetrick painting again in the future. "Quality" is the key to their service.

I was so impressed with Dante from our first phone call. He answered the call right away himself, answered my questions, and set up a time to come out and access the situation. He was completely accommodating of my schedule. The very first thing he did was provide me with his license and insurance information, before I even asked him to. Upon his very thorough inspection it was determined my mother-in-law's house needed Mold Remediation and Installation of a Vapor Barrier System (Encapsulation) in the Crawl Space. We decided to go with Dante because of his extensive knowledge and experience in the area of finding and resolving moisture and mold issues. Dante answered every question we had as well as explained every answer in great detail. He made sure we understood each and every step in the process. He gave us an enormous wealth of information and peace of mind, that my mother-in-law's house would be a safe living environment for her. Dante had genuine concern for her well-being and was genuinely interested in helping us. We really appreciated this. Dante and his team showed up right on time and ready to begin. We were unaware of all the debris and trash that had been left underneath the house that other contractors and repair people had just left behind over the years. Dante and his crew removed and cleaned all that up before they began. Dante and his team removed all the old insulation, sealed all accessible penetrations (electrical, plumbing,HVAC,etc.), temporarily installed air moving devices at the crawl space door to greatly reduce dust, odors and pollutants and to suck air out of the crawl space only during mold remediation procedures and upon vapor barrier installation, hand scrubbed affected areas of the crawl space, install new insulation, and install the vapor barrier. He even found a leak in the foundation wall and repaired this at no extra charge. We were so impressed with Dante, his work and his team that we had him renovate my mother-in-law's bathroom. He is so knowledgeable about construction and has an eye for detail and design, he was instrumental in helping design the bathroom. He had to gut the entire bathroom and I mean from ceiling to floor and everything inbetween. The before and after is nothing short of amazing. It is absolutely gorgeous. I told Dante he needed his own home improvement show. The ceramic tile design and work alone is absolutely beautiful. He did bring some things to our attention that we had not thought about. He widened the entry door to make it wheelchair accessible if ever it was needed in the future, the new commode is taller, the light switches are not flipped up and down, instead you just touch the switch and it comes on and goes off. The fold down teak wood shower chair looks great. The bathroom turned out so well my mother-in-law decided to renovate the entire rest of the house. Dante began with the bedrooms and living room. He had to tear down panelling and layers of wallpaper behind the panelling in each room. We even discovered wallpaper had been at some point placed onto some of the ceilings. After removing all the panelling, wallpaper and repairing or replacing drywall, everything was painted. He also had to replace a lot of trim work and interior doors as well as updating the electrical and electrical fixtures. He found additional unused space in the hall and built a linen closet. He also built and installed additional closet space in the third bedroom tripling the closet space for that room. Dante is a genius with designing extra space that you didn't know you could have. We decided to not replace the carpet in the house, but instead Dante had the original hardwood floors refinished. They look stunning! The kitchen and utility rooms were also completely remodeled. The kitchen has all new cabinets and quartz counter tops. The quartz Dante found is gorgeous. The kitchen floor and all the appliances have been replaced and the electrical and electrical fixtures have been updated. The trim work has been replaced and the walls repaired and painted. The kitchen not only has more space but looks amazing! The utility room had to be gutted from ceiling to floor, but oh is it fabulous now! Dante moved the washer onto the same wall as the dryer and built and installed a double pantry from ceiling to floor where the washer was. He installed the same cabinets and quartz counter top to match the kitchen. He has tripled the storage space in this utility room. He also replaced the old wooden entry door into the utility room with a new steel door. We did this whole house renovation in stages and it took about six months to complete, which is exactly what Dante had told us. Dante kept us informed the entire time and was in constant communication with us through the entire process. I would recommend Dante to any of my family or friends. He and his team are honest, extremely knowledgeable, punctual, hard working, courteous, respectful, straight forward, reliable and reasonable. He and his team take great pride in their work. They are also very respectful of the living space and the work areas were cleaned thoroughly at the end of each work day. I can't thank Dante and his team enough for what they did for my mother-in-law! We have some projects around our house that need to be addressed and he is the only contractor I will be calling. He has our complete trust and respect.

    Daniel's Premium Painting
After initial visit to get a quote, they called back a few days later to offer a discount unavailable at the time of the quote. The quality was terrific, and I am very pleased with the results. I rated B for professionalism only because we had to sweep the floor after they left (probably their drop cloths left behind some debris), but that was very minor. They worked ALL day to get it done as promised, but without scimping in the quality. I could not be more impressed with their work ethic and the quality of the work.

    Barrett Painting Inc
Great group! Showed up when they said, masked all the floor areas, took the time to remove wall crud (bumps, brush marks and drips) from previous painters, and flawlessly covered settling cracks, holes and imperfections. You won't find a better crew! And, the price was very fair compared with 3 other bids.

    Advanced Painting
I hired Advanced painting to do my drywall & painting. Mr. Box came for the estimate and was very professional. He also took the time to explain the entire process to me. Upon the start of the job his crew arrived and were also very professional and finished the drywall & painting on schedule and did an absolutely wonderful job. I would highly recommend this company.

    Trogdon Enterprises

Very good experience with this company.

We started with an Angie's List deal for 1 day of painting to determine how it would go. Our painter arrived on time and was able to complete everything we had hoped in 1 8-hr day. Quality of the job was very good. We were pleased with the results and price, contracted out for 2 more painting days. A different person was out each time, and results were consistent. Everyone was very professional, polite.

    Slocum Contracting
I have a sunporch with a leaky roof.  This past summer, my husband and I made an appointment with Justin from Slocum, quick response rate.  We bought a deal for $599 and had two workers.  My husband and I, to cut down on time and expense, took off all the shingles  (double ply) and tar paper and hauled them out by ourselves.  The two workers took out four skylights, which was the problem of our leaks, and replaced two wooden plyboards that had gone soft, then reshingled.  They had to come back the next day to finish the job and charged me an extra $200.  On the first day of work, one of the workers told me I had to buy new flashing for the seam (for upper roof to meet bottom half), which I did.  The second day, there was a different worker, he said I didn't need the flashing.  Roof looked good, thought that was that, was planning on plastering and painting the indoor ceiling from all the leaks/stains.
But then it rained.  Rain POURED from THREE different spots from the ceiling- unbelievably, worse than when I had work done.  Called Justin, he sent someone to check it out, patched with a little tar.  Happened again next rain.  Then again.  Then it started pouring out of my recessed light fixture.  Had them come a FIFTH time to repair.  It's been raining heavy the last three days.  My ceiling has no pours anymore, but the water stains are damp.  So STILL NOT FIXED. I'm so sick of having this work "done".  Buyer beware.

Jim did a great job painting the interior of our home.

He was very thorough in explaining the various paint options and gave a very reasonable estimate for the work.  He was prompt, courteous and his work is first rate.  This was a large project and the work was completed in the timeframe we were given.   We will definitely use Barrett Painting in the future!

    Joe Lisi's Quality Painting
Joe's communication and professionalism were outstanding. He came out multiple times for estimates when we had to change the scope of the work. He helped think through the work and colors with us, which was an enormous help. He was there on day one to get his guys started right. They prepared the walls very well and protected everything. Two of our doorways do not have casement, so the paint line has to be cut perfectly, which they did. His guys work quickly and neatly, leaving the house as they found it, but with new colors. Highly recommended.
