    Annointed Hands Concrete LLC
Horrible. Did maybe 15% of work, nearly burned my house down as concrete truck clipped overhead power line and never showed back up. Attempted to blame overhead power line damage on a squirrel. Took 50% deposit. Work that was done was shoddy and substandard. I asked if he had compacted sub base with tamped stone for piece of walk and stoop that was poured. He said, 'yes'. Month later, I notice a gap under walk. Realize that it was simply poured on grass. No sub base or compaction. After nearly destroying my home and killing my dogs, he decided to just not show back up nor call or let anyone know he was quitting the job. After weeks of attempted calls, this contractor finally answered when I called from a different number. He then threatened physical assault when he finally answered phone and I asked for my money back. Dishonest and unprofessional.

We had a flooding issue with previous sidewalk. Mr. Williams and his crew put in a beautiful new sidewalk with proper drainage and we had incredibly hard rains a few days ago and our sidewalk did not flood at all. We are completely satisfied with Mr. Williams and his crew. Job well done.

AMAZING! I cannot say enough about how fantastic Alan and his team were. They were on-time and even more importantly exceeded my expectations in terms of the final product. I get compliments on their work all the time.

    JR Anderson, Inc. Concrete

Initial contact by estimator for Anderson was February 18, 2016.  Contractual paperwork was complete (with revisions) between February 18 and March 18, 2016.  Anderson required that we pay in advance for 1/2 the quoted price of the job to "secure a spot on the work schedule."  Our check for $3,195.00 was given to Anderson on March 18, 2016.  Unfortunately, the signed contract we had been given earlier did not contain a "start date" or a "completion by date" but stated "To Be Determined" in these spaces on the contract.  When several weeks went by after our deposit check had been cashed with no contact at all from owner, Jim Anderson, or anyone from his company, we began making phone calls periodically to the main office of JR Anderson, Inc. in an attempt to find out when our job was scheduled to begin.  We were never able to reach Jim Anderson at his office.  We asked his office manager, Melinda, if she could tell us our approximate start date and she said she did not have the office work schedule. We also requested that the estimator, Brian *******, get us a start date, but he was not able to do so.  We repeatedly left messages with Melinda requesting her to have Jim Anderson call us to discuss the status of our project.  Jim Anderson never returned any of our phone calls and never contacted us to talk about our project.

On April 22, 2016, in a conversation with Anderson's office manager, I told her that it was urgent we hear from Jim that day or we would be forced to engage an attorney and terminate our contract immediately.  Jim Anderson did not call back, but he showed up at our home with several men in the late afternoon on Friday, April 22, 2016.  Although possible heavy rain was in the forecast for that afternoon, Jim insisted that he was following the weather and expected he and his crew would have time to complete the prep work on our project.  Unfortunately, this was not the case.  Heavy rain about two hours in forced Jim and his crew to stop work.  We were left with a huge mud hole across much of our back yard.  As he was preparing to leave our site, Jim assured us that he and his men would be back on Saturday or even Sunday, if necessary, to finish preparing for the concrete pour that was scheduled for the following Monday morning.  No one from JR Anderson, Inc. Concrete showed up either day; no one from the company bothered to call to let us know anything about the status of our job.  While I don't have the exact day, I believe the crew was back sometime during the following week and did the pour and put sealer on the concrete.  However, we faced another delay on the job when stone for the sitting wall was delayed.  Jim Anderson blamed everyone from the estimator to the supplier for the delay.  When it was finally delivered to our site, the order was incomplete, and the saws the Anderson crew had on hand were not adequate to cut the top cap stones for the wall. (Please note, we made our final decision on the stone selection by March 5, 2016.  We don't know when it was actually ordered for our job.)

The job came to a complete stand still until JUNE 29, 2016.  During the period between April 22 - June 29, 2016, we were again left with no contact at all from Jim Anderson to let us know when or if ever he would be able to complete our project.  During this period, we worried daily about how to proceed.  We constantly talked about consulting an attorney, or the need to hire another contractor to finish the job Jim Anderson had started.  In one last attempt to get satisfaction from Anderson, we made another call to his office on June 29, 2016 in the early morning.  Jim was not in the office.  Another message was left with Melinda similar in tone to our April 22 message ---i.e. "if we do not hear from Jim today, we will engage an attorney to take whatever action necessary to void our contract and get our money back from JR Anderson, Inc."  No call came from Jim; he showed up at our house at 2:00 pm with several men.  I met him at his truck and asked that he come inside to my office to talk about where we stood on the job.  During the very frank conversation that followed, I reiterated to Jim how displeased we were with his total irresponsibility on our project.  We told him there was absolutely no excuse for his refusal to return or calls or communicate with us in any way with status reports or to answer our questions.  He said he totally agreed with our comments; he apologized profusely and said, "this is not how I run my business."  I questioned Jim seriously about his ability to fully complete our job that day -- if he was not going to be able to complete everything that day, we did not want him to do anything more.  He assured us that he could finish everything in a few hours and everything would be completed when he left that day (June 29, 2016.)  I then said, "Now, let's talk about the money."  Jim said, "Yes, I was just going to tell you that I am going to give you a big discount to try to make up for your hard feeling about how I have handled this job."  "in fact, Joette, I'm going to let you tell me how much the discount should be."  At that time, I told Jim that we did not want to give him another penny.  Jim agreed to these terms and said that he would waive the entire remaining balance on our account,  We requested, and he agreed to provide a statement showing our account/contract as "PAID IN FULL."  Jim's last words to us as he left the job were that he would take care of getting us a "paid" statement as soon as he got back to his office.

That was June 29, 2016.  Fast forward to Saturday, August 6, 2016.  We received a letter from Jim Anderson.  It was not a statement showing that he had waived the balance due, but instead, a "DEMAND FOR PAYMENT" letter in which he give us 14 days to pay the remaining balance or he would take us to Hanover County District Court to sue for monies owned.  We had no choice but to consult with an attorney and we are now in the process of resolving this matter without going to court.  I have filed a formal complaint with the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation - Contractor's Board - and we are awaiting the results of their formal investigation.

Obviously, the entire experience dealing with Jim Anderson has been more than upsetting, or a mere inconvenience.  It has cost us time and money far over and above the amount of his contract.  In our opinion, people considering this contractor should proceed with extreme caution.  It has been our experience that  Mr. Anderson can not be trusted to keep his word or manage his business with integrity and professionalism.

Mr. Williams did a great job.  He cut out the old sections and set up the forms on Wednesday, poured the step and sidewalk on Thursday and sprayed the sealer on Friday.  Our sidewalk is aggregate and he did an outstanding job of matching the old section to the new!!  Everything was cleaned up thoroughly and you couldn't even tell he had been there other than the fact that our steps were fixed!

i would definitely recommend Mr. Williams to anyone needing this type of work done!

It only took eight days from the time I wrote the deposit check to completion. Every person I came into contact with was qualified, professional and just good people. The price was very fair and the  finished product was excellent. JR Anderson Concrete exceeded my expectations in every respect.

I wanted to work with this provider because he has received such good reviews.  I think he probably got higher paying jobs after agreeing to fix my porch and put me at the back of the list.  He seems like a nice person but I need the job done and will move on.

    Commonwealth Renovations

The quality of work is fantastic.  JB was super easy to work with and extremely professional as were the sub-contractors used on the job.  JB is very good at looking at alternative ways to accomplish the goal.  He can very quickly get to the best approach for the repair or addition at hand which is a valuable skill considering the extra issues an addition to an existing structure or repair can encounter (as opposed to new construction where the work/approach may be quicker due to fewer hurdles).  For example, our bathroom has two entries, one from the new great room and one from the existing master bedroom.  The doorway to the master bedroom was built through an existing window.  To open up the area below the window required removing the concrete wall below.  The threshold (on the floor) between the master bedroom hardwood floor and the new bathroom's tile was creatively brought together and is very pretty and practical.  The demolition of the wall and the link of the two different types of floors is the type of work that new construction may not run into.  The word "Renovations" in JB Sipes' Commonwealth Renovations company really speaks volumes to the skill set.

Communication was always above expectations.  We knew the plan, what could be controlled and what couldn't, what to expect if the plan prevailed and what to expect if the plan did not prevail.  When this happened, JB let us know right away the new plan.  We were never in the dark and I suspect this level of communication can be difficult for contractors to achieve.  Accordingly, the process went very smoothly as we were always on board.

Everyone we worked with (subs and general contractor) all took pride in their work and genuinely cared.  This atmosphere starts at the top with the general contractor.

    I recommend this General Contractor.

I hired them and they broke ground on the project August 6. They were working on the inside of my house and now they are working on the outside. The contact is J. B. Sipe and I used him because he seemed knowledgeable and provided the service I needed more than just telling me what I wanted to hear. Another company gave me a quote which I thought was pretty good, but J.B. gave me more information. J.B.'s price was over my budget, but he worked with me to get close enough. He came down around $5,000. I am very pleased with J.B. He comes through the day, but he is not on time. He is working on a job and everything like that and I realize that. He contacts us as soon as he is on site about what he is going to do that day and what is coming up. Or I will call him. He normally calls us first thing in the morning to let us know what is going on so he keeps us up to date.

My home is 25 years old and they did an excellent job of matching my bricks and the mortar so that when the repair was done, it looked like it blended well.  They showed up on time and they did the demo work and took extra care to clean up after themselves and started and finished the job when they said they would.  The foreman was sure to meet with me and he wanted all of my feedback.  He wanted to make sure I was 100% satisfied before he would accept payment.  The price didn't change and stayed true to his quoted price.  They exceeded my expectations.
