When I first saw Alvin's workshop in the garage behind his house I knew I had found what I was looking for. He's a grandfather that runs his own furniture restoration workshop, and you know right away you are paying for his labor and not a bunch of overhead. My wife and I didn't want to pay a bunch of money to restore these chairs to their original condition. But we like them and we wanted to have relatively inexpensive repairs done so that we could use them. When I brought them to Alvin's shop he explained several options to me and he recommended the least expensive option when I told him what our objective was. I thought it might take him a couple of weeks to get the job done because he was restoring some other chairs at the same time and I had told him we were in no hurry, but a couple of days later he called me and said they were ready. We had agreed to the price in advance ($140 to fix both chairs), and everything was done according to his recommendations. Don't rush in and out of his workshop. Go when you have some extra time in your schedule so that you have time to chat. It's part of the positive experience. In this world where we throw old stuff like these chairs away and then buy new stuff which is not nearly as nice, it's good to know there is someone like Alvin left who can fix things at a reasonable cost. He has an answering machine that answers his telephone when he isn't there. If that happens, leave a message because he will call you back as soon as he is free. Both of the times we left voice messages he called back within a couple of hours. I'm really glad we had Alvin fix these old chairs and that we didn't send them to the landfill.

AWhen we saw the beautifully restored finish on our Victorian chair, we decided on the spot to ask Wilson to refinish the coffee table to match it. His price seemed reasonable and he was able to get it done in his shop in about a week.

AWilson told us how much fabric to buy, and we obtained it by mail order after seeing it in a furniture store. He somewhat over-estimated because the roll was very wide, which left us sufficient fabric to have him also make some extra lumbar pillows. We delivered the chair to his shop to save on pickup and delivery charges but as it turned out, he delivered it at no charge, wrapped very well protected against any damage. With fabric, the total project cost about $750 and was well worth retaining a lovely family heirloom. As a result of our satisfaction with this project, we had him refinish a mahogany coffee table with the same rose motif. See separate review.

AJerry re-caned two 50+ year old rocking chairs that had tears in the caning. One of the chairs also needed minor woodworking repairs which Jerry also took care of. And he repaired an antique wooden doll cradle that had the bottom busted out of it. We wanted to retain the antique look of the pieces and Jerry did a great job of blending in his work with the original?the repaired areas match perfectly.
Jerry was easy to work with. He came to our home to pick up and drop off the pieces. Each time he called ahead to schedule a time, and he stuck to his schedule.
The repairs took a few months, but we were not in a hurry, so this was not a problem for us.

AMr. Delgado did an outstanding job and the oak table surface is now as good as--or better than--new. Mr. Delgado was courteous and professional. He visited us the day after we called, gave us the price, and, when we agree to have him do the job, he took the table away to do the work. He completed the work in the promised 2-3 week time-frame and delivered the table back to our house.
We thought that Metropolitan Restoration Center did an excellent job for a reasonable price.

AMetropolitan Restoration Center Inc came and picked it up. They had it for three or four weeks which was fine with me since I was in no rush to get it back. It was beautiful. I couldn't be more satisfied.- David R.

AI brought two kitchen cabinet doors and two cabinet drawers, whose surfaces were marred, to Classic Furniture for refinishing in their original color. Classic estimated it would take two weeks. Classic met that time estimate and the pieces were refinished entirely to my satisfaction.

ARay and Heather were very responsive. I called, they asked me to take a few photos, which I did. I had an estimate in hour, and took my chair down to them. It was ready in two days, and on budget!

AEverything went extremely well. My mother, who lives with me, had previously had her antique bed frame repaired and refinished by Pro Furniture Doctor using a coupon I had purchased from Angie's List. Daniel picked up the bed and delivered it when completed. The work done on the bed was beautiful, so I asked Daniel to look at some additional pieces and I subsequently had this rocker refinished and reupholstered and my mother had another antique chair refinished and reupholstered. (Separately reviewed.) Daniel picked up these chairs on November 18 and delivered them to us December 23, as he had promised - before Christmas. The chairs are absolutely beautiful! He and Pro Furniture Doctor staff make abused antique furniture look new again so the pieces are a pleasure to use! We did have to go to his shop in Manassas to choose our upholstery fabrics. It was a challenge to find the place as it's buried among a lot of busy warehouse businesses. That said, we were glad we made the trip as there were many fabrics to choose from. It also made us appreciate his delivery services all the more! We will definitely use Pro Furniture Doctor to restore our furniture in the future.
Though this review indicates the work was done at the provider's location, Pro Furniture Doctor does offer a pickup and delivery service to some locations and we took advantage of this opportunity. This is what made it possible for us to have the work done.
