    Ultra Guard Security Systems
In nasty divorce year 2. Concerned about my safety so changed security alarm companies to UGSS. Husband filed a John Doe action in Fairfax County alleging someone "hacked" his bank account. He used that law suit to subpoena my security alarm records from Ultra Guard including emails I sent them. They never told me or asked my permission. I had no idea. I only found out because I needed a tech because someone was ringing my doorbell in the middle of the night and the cameras were not working. Go figure! Husband used the John Doe action to get records he was not entitled to under the divorce. USGG just sent them to my Husband. They never copied me or sent the subpoena to me. I found out 4 months later. What a breach of my privacy. Had Ultra Guard told me, my attorneys would have stopped this. There is no way my Husband is entitled to these records. Ultra Guard will clearly just hand over all our files on you and any emails you send them on any lawsuit whether or not it has merit. And they were not at all apologetic about it once I found out. Do NOT use them ever. They will send your records to anyone without even telling you.

    C H Tel. & TV Co., Inc.
The installation went extremely well. The installation crew was very knowledgeable and skilled at their work. There was a minimum of cuts to drywall to accommodate the various rooms getting the cable. Charlie was very helpful in assisting us in getting the best shielded cable for our needs. They were not the cheapest quote, but I feel the slight difference was more than made up in their professionalism and quality of service. They also came back out weeks later to address an issue with the installation that turned out to have been caused by other workmen doing renovations at my home at the same time as their installation. Not only were they very quick to resolve the puzzling issue, but they did not charge for the service call. I would recommend them to anyone without hesitation and will use them again in the future when the need arises. Top caliber company!

We phoned on a Saturday and they came to the house to work on it during lunch hour the following Wednesday so we didn't have to take time off of work. Very professional, punctual and fixed the clock for a good price. We are delighted!

    Eastern Memorials, Inc
I have never given a review on the internet before, but after the excellent service we received from Eastern Memorials I felt I needed to. I contacted a number of companies to get a head stones for my wife. I initially chose Eastern Memorial because it looked like they could handle unique designs requests based on other memorials they featured on their web site. I wanted a particular head stone and bench design for my wife and I and Sarah and Kevin were very accommodating in meeting my requirements. They got the design correct with minimal effort and bent over backwards in sourcing the correct stone. When the memorial and bench were complete I was very pleased with the excellent workmanship. The gentlemen who installed the memorial were meticulous and very professional. I highly recommend Eastern Memorials to anyone seeking an excellent product and service at a very fair price. You will not be disappointed.

We sent John photos of the repair to be done and chose him for his fair price and previous reviews. He showed up exactly on time, which is impressive due to major traffic in our location. He was very pleasant and conversational. He removed the railing, drilled down through the concrete base ready for the repaired railing. We had rescued a spare railing from a teardown house nearby, in case it could be of use. John said the part he could have used was also rusted but that he would take it to the tip for us. Thanks! He welded new end pieces onto the original handrail and painted and sunk them into the concrete filled holes. He noticed that our aging steps had a pretty nice horizontal crack and offered to fill it in for us. We said he need not bother, but said he was happy to do so while he was on site. Though, as he finished the handrail project, he apologized that he had run out of the mix to fill it. He did, however, spend an extra hour grinding down a ridge on the cracked step, to make it easier, with his directions, to fill the crack ourselves, which were capable of and would have been happy to do. We gave him extra $ for his effort. Though, the following day, we received a call from John, saying he would be over in 2 hours to fix the crack in the step. We said no-one would be at home, but he insisted he was nearby and would be over, which indeed he did. So all in all, it was a pleasure to have both our steps and railings neatly repaired and to have made his acquaintance. We appreciated his attitude, work ethic and humor and would heartily recommend him.

    My Guys Moving & Storage
The movers were pleasant and professional, but we had an overall bad experience with My Guys' storage and moving services. Their accounting department sent invoices to the wrong address resulting in our being in default without their even calling us. Fortunately, we identified the error before they sold our items in storage at auction (they were set to do that without calling us about late payment). When we had them deliver our stored items, we did not receive everything we had stored. Also, items they moved from our old to new house didn't make it to the new house including two pieces of wall art that they packed. They also broke an antique lamp that they packed and moved. We filed a claim a month ago. They haven't even acknowledged receipt.

Burke Electronics TV Installations & Repairs

When my television began to show color vertical lines occasionally, I didn't know who to call or where to turn. Shortly thereafter, I received an email from Angie's List with a '"big deal" from Burke Electronics and TV. I purchased the big deal, and I received an email from Michael shortly thereafter to set up a very convenient time for him to come to my home.

The day of the appointment, he called about a half hour before he arrived to let me know he was on the way. He was extremely pleasant and professional. I told him that the television hadvertical lines that come and go. I was able to take a photograph of the lines and show him on my iPhone, which he said was very helpful. He removed the back of the television, cleaned and tightened everything, showed me where the issue was, and carefully returned it back to its stand.Michael indicated that this cannot be corrected with just one component part, and that one of the entire 'boards' would have to be replaced. Doing this would not be cost effective. He said that his cleaning/tightening/etc. was a 50/50 repair--it might not occur again, or the lines could come back.

This is EXACTLY the professional information I needed. Is the TV worth repairing, or should I simply replace it? Michael then recommended a television brand, series, etc., that he found least likely to need frequent repairs ifa replacement is needed. I definitely appreciated his professionalism, expertise, and kindness to me as a widow of a Vietnam Veteran. He was most gracious in conversation as he worked.

My television has been fine since he left. However, should the lines come back again, I know that the television is not worth repairing. Best of all, I know exactly what television I need to purchase. Amazing service from a real professional.

    Peabody Residential
I would have given them a worse review, but I'm not sure that my experience isn't just reflective of how little property management companies do.
Specifically, I went with Peabody because I thought they would take care of our property (our single family home) to help ensure that we could return to the home in good condition.
Unfortunately, they were not able to ensure that maintenance contracts got serviced (eg, our HVAC system, lawn care, pest control). As a result, it seemed as if they were able to ensure the property would have the "absolute minimum" done to keep it livable. However, their inattention to detail means that many items, which should get taken care of, don't.
Also, ultimately, I wasn't sure why I was paying them the equivalent of 1 month's rent. Whenever a service issue came up, they just passed the buck on to the tenant, to arrange a service time and coordinate repairs. They seemed like they got in the way more than anything else.
In general, I would have given them a much worse grade, but I think that many other property companies with an "A" are really just as bad.

    SUPERIOR Roofing & Sheet Metal
Let me preface this:  I am generally forgiving and patient.  I understand that people have other clients and other work.  I do, however, expect to be treated with some semblance of respect in return.  I thoroughly dislike leaving negative reviews, but I had such an unbelievable experience I had to make sure others knew.  (The reason I initially hired them was because of their otherwise positive reviews.)

We had a custom sheet metal project.  Initially, because the job was odd, I called to inquire if it was even possible.  Robert requested pictures of the space, and said that yes, he could do it.  I had to wait a bit longer than expected to set up the actual job, because I was waiting on the last of the materials I had ordered elsewhere to arrive (so that the specific measurements were available).  When they did, I was eventually able to set up a time to meet and get the measurements to him.  I offered to bring the materials as a template to his office, but he insisted on coming to the house to measure them.

When he got to the house I explained the details of the job.  He measured the pieces--while he did I caught one incorrect measurement and he corrected it.  (Though apparently I missed more; see below.)  It was a Monday, and he said it would be done by the middle of next week.  (Since Thanksgiving was in 3 days, it was really about a week; no problem.)  The Wednesday after Thanksgiving I had texted to see when I could expect him, but got no response.  By the end of Thursday I had not heard from him, so I called.  He informed me that it would not be done until the following Monday, since it was a "low priority."  (He never asked me what the priority was; I had animals restricted to a small room until that piece was safely installed.  It was only low priority to him, since it didn't make HIM a lot of money.)  Monday rolled around and by the end of the day I had still not heard from him.  Again I had to contact him, and again he delayed the work.  It wouldn't be ready until Tuesday. (You may say that it's not the end of the world, but remember, he's never bothered to tell ME that the work isn't ready, only to grumpily respond when I'm waiting at the appointed time only to find he's not there.

He finally arrived on Tuesday, only to find that it did not fit.  It was at least half an inch off.  Again, you may say " no big deal."  The problem is, the track it had to fit in WAS that half inch that was missing.  It couldn't stay in; it was so much smaller that it fell out and couldn't do its job.  He told us "I'll be back," which we thought meant to the truck and back.  No.  He took off.  Upon realizing this, I left a very polite message asking how long he thought it would be until he could fix it. Still, by the end of the next day I got no response.

When I called to ask again, he picked up the phone. Again, I was more polite than I had any right to be--I just wanted the work done.  I kept a civil tone and asked when the work would be done, to which he responded "It'll be done when it gets done."  ...After having gone significantly over the original timeline, and the reason it had to be redone was his own fault, that response was insufficient.  He made excuses that "I've been doing houses" (presumably gutter jobs that paid more).  When I paused to hold my tongue he added that the problem was not having a template to follow; it was hard to make sure it was right with only the measurements.  The tone used was highly accusatory; it was my fault because I didn't provide the template....but I had on day one.  He refused it.  (Also, a template may have been helpful if the holes were misplace, but being that far off was a measuring problem.)  I refrained from pointing this out (I didn't want a fight, I wanted the work done), but asked again how long it would take.  I reminded him that it was nearing TWICE the expected timeline.  He gruffly responded that I could find someone else to do the work.

If you have a job that is a HUGE deal and big money maker, he may treat you like royalty. I don't know.  But if you're a regular person, willing to pay a fair price for work, beware.  You're not important to him.  Expect to be ignored, delayed, and possibly discarded.

Update:  I have since gotten the work done with another person who did the work in and hour and a half, for just over half the price Superior was charging.

    Mailbox Xpress Inc
Rarely have we worked with a contractor that is more enthusiastic, reliable and knowledgeable about his craft than Jim Hughes of Mailbox Xpress.  From the commencement of our project, all the way to its conclusion, Jim was on top of it and extremely easy to work with - he was patient as we obtained necessary approvals, he made fast work of 47 individual installations, he worked well with each homeowner, he remained true to his estimates of cost and offered an infectious enthusiasm in his efforts.  The curbside appearance of our community has been enhanced and we?ve made a good friend in the course of it.
