    Fit Pro Massage
I've had a few of the therapists here for the one hour massage as has my wife and daughter. I also attended a stretching workshop. All massages have been very good. Scheduling is on-line and is super easy. Nice facility.

    Healing Works Physical Therapy
A true healer. Extremely knowledgable and able to explain what is going on simply for non experts! Very careful to avoid further injury and gave practical insights into how to avoid future problems. Would not hesitate to go again if circumstances require.

    Thomas Raley MD
Dr. Raley recommended a steroid injection into my lower lumbar spine and the results were a major relief of my pain. He preformed the 20 minute procedure in an excellent manner. Dr. Raley is very patient-centric and people oriented. Based upon my treatment, I highly recommend this spine specialist.

    Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Center
I love this practice because of Dr. Cuttica and his staff.   They take their work, seriously, but are personable at the same time.  Be prepared to spend an hour or so on your first appointment because he needs time to review your completed forms and x-rays.   Subsequent visits are within 10-15 minutes wait time but you never know how busy they get due to multiple unexpected ankle issues (think the day after soccer games or rowdy concerts).   Otherwise, expect nothing but sound, knowledgeable, and skillful treatment.
Some good phone numbers to keep available are as follows:
Orthopedic Sport (to rent a scooter for approximately $40.00 per week and they deliver for $25.00) - much easier to use than crutches:    703/ 263-1325
Request the completed form for a Handicap Tag (for Handicap Parking) from the Orthopedics and get the tag from DMV asap.
If any hardware is used (i.e., screws, plates, etc.) ask for the card (at the front desk) that validates you will set-off metal detectors.  It helps to present it when going through Security check-points (e.g., airports).
Phone Number to purchase an Aircast ice machine (get the motorized one and make sure you have adequate ice):    703/ 584-2040
Family Pharmacy located in McLean, VA off Chain Bridge Road - offers free delivery:  703/ 854-1992
Ensure that you have plenty of pillows and a comforter so you can elevate your leg, foot, and ankle.
Input pertinent phone numbers into your cell phone ahead of time because getting around and carrying papers can be challenging.
A clear oversized baggie is good, also, for papers, pens, and safety pins (just in case).
The current contact information on this practice's website is for a store located in New England instead of the small store located inside the practice.  You can get the local store's phone number by asking the person behind the counter for i I recommend getting the plastic bag for your foot, ankle, leg for the shower and possibly one of the socks.  The sock is useful because I believe it is large enough to cover a cast and looks better with the boot.  I did not buy one and regretted it because I wanted to cover my toes and a regular-sized sock was tight against the skin and incision and I ended-up losing the other one (of the pair).
This practice's phone number (703/ 769-8420) has an option to leave a message for a Nurse.  I have contacted them two or three times and have received generic responses from the nurses.  If you have any discomfort (e.g., your foot and ankle swelling and rubs against your cast), do not hesitate to be persistent in getting assistance.  I believe this service acts as a first-line, common problems service not intended for more severe ones so make sure you get what you need because the practice opens around 9AM, takes an hour lunch, and then does not guarantee a response for any messages left after 3PM.   I believe this is to keep the overhead down.
I have approximately another month of treatment (one for x-rays to confirm that healing has occurred so I can resume walking on it and then a few weeks of physical therapy twice a week).  I also love the fact that the practice does not pressure or try to sell you on their physical therapy practice though I did go through theirs for mine.

Very pleased with professionalism of staff, bedside manner of dr. Rawles, balanced advice on surgical options. Surgical center was very well run but wait time before surgery was too long.loved the warm blankets before surgery, nurses attention, postoperative care. Dr. Rawles even called me from overseas to check on my condition.

    Commonwealth Orthopaedics
I got an appointment with Commonwealth right away, and saw Dr. John McConnell. He had treated my son a few years ago when he broke his wrist and I had been very pleased with his attention and care of my son. Lucky for me, Dr. McConnell specializes in sports medicine and has operated on many many knees like mine over the years. He took a conservative approach and suggested I might not need surgery, depending on what kind of physical activities I wanted to do in the coming years. (I was 52 when I had the accident.) He also told me he could operate if I wanted to go that route. He explained three different types of procedures, and why he recommends only one of those for women. My only complaint about Commonwealth was that while they and Dr. McConnell see hundreds of patients in a year and this stuff is routine for them, the surgery decision was a big deal for me as the patient. I had a ton of questions and reservations, and I felt as though the whole thing was commonplace for Dr. McConnell (which it is). The consults were brisk and routine, and I felt a little rushed. I did seek a second opinion and also spoke to many other people who had had knee surgery for ACL/MCL, and in the end, I went with a hamstring replacement from Dr. McConnell.
The surgery went fine. I had very good follow-up care, lots of PT, and Dr. McConnell was very realistic about what the recovery period would be like. I worked hard, and I have complete use of my knee -- even went skiing 9 months after surgery. It was an excellent outcome.
Commonwealth's staff is incredibly efficient. I never waited for an appointment, even when the office was packed. They x-ray right on site too. The surgical suite they use is wonderful. The staff--including anesthesiology-- is warm, welcoming, efficient, professional and reassuring. They fixed me up with everything I needed post-op (knee bending machine, ice machine) to make it easy for my family to support me and for me to manage my own rehab. Follow-up post-op was thorough and I am fully and quot;back to my life, and quot; as Commonwealth's motto promises.

Weinman, Dr. Joanne - 4 Acupuncture
Joanne saved me from knee replacement surgery two years ago!  She was my final option before surgery.  I had never been to an acupuncturist, and I, like many, was skeptical even though my health insurance covered acupuncture in part which alone would underscore its effectiveness and validity.  Well, I am a complete convert and advocate!   I have been seeing Joanne off and on for the past two years.  I chose her because she is one of the only individuals within a reasonable distance from my home who has a master's degree in acupuncture from Tai Sofia Univ., an accredited institution with an intensive 3-year program.  Joanne is a highly competent and articulate professional and a genuinely compassionate and warm human being.  Each visit begins with a discussion of my problems followed by a unique program of interventions which may include the placement of filaments (to me, not really needles),  along specific pathways and the use of moxibustion and/or lasers.  Often the pain goes away after one treatment.  Sometimes it is significantly reduced after one treatment but may take two or three treatments to completely go away.  In all cases, acupuncture treatment resolved my problems and was much more effective than pain meds and physical therapy.   Joanne has also recommended different supplements to help with specific problems, and she has been correct in every case. I strongly recommend Joanne Weinman.  If you have never tried acupuncture before, Joanne should be your first experience and you will be amazed at the effectiveness of the treatment and her skill and knowledge as a highly trained and knowledgeable acupuncturist.

    Healing Works Physical Therapy
I had 8 appointments over a 30 day period for lower back pain. During the one-hour session the DPT placed pressure on various lower back muscles and tissues, working to readjustment my posture and strengthen under used muscles. The goal was to gain additional flexibility and readjust my lower back to break long held habits of both walking and setting a certain way. It worked. Along with various exercises the DPT showed me how to complete and perform each day to maintain my flexibility, lower back stiffness and pain was dramatically reduced and the care enabled me to begin lifting heavier items again. My wife experienced similar success with this DPT following her surgery. After several weeks of treatments that included maneuvering the shoulder area, relieving pressure and tension on muscles and tissues, my wife's doctor recently certified my wife as fully healed, achieving more flexibility and use of her shoulder than the doctor expected. The DPT developed an exercise program that yielded results. The DPT focuses on the patient, has a good bed-side manner, is flexible about scheduling and prompt. The experience is positive and uplifting, and my wife and I both highly recommend the services of this DPT. Healing Works!

    Blabey, Dr. Gary
I have been going to Dr. Blabey for about 15 years. I see him often when I'm having back or neck pain, but then once I'm better (thanks to him) I don't see him for a couple of months. He always helps me! He is very competent and he listens well.
